  • Great addition/upgrade for new computer build
Capacity: 2TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
I bought two of these, one 2TB and one 4TB. My old computer was starting to act up and when I got to thinking about it, I built it 8-10 years ago and using an SSD for the internal system drive. As I was researching building a new computer I was totally unaware of these NVMe's. Basically they look just like a stick of chewing gum. The motherboard I bought, as most now do too, had 3 slots for these with an added PCIe expansion card to accept 2 more. (not saying all boards have this many slots, just that this is the new technology) Anyway, I did a lot of research on these. They are SOOOOO much faster than the old SSD's and especially the old platter drives spinning at 5400 and even 7200RPM. There really is NO comparison. This is the way to go. My only complaint is that they don't make these big enough for me so I still have a 10TB platter drive for data storage. I do a lot of video and photos so need this kind of room. If you just use one of these for your system drive (Master) and either an SSD or platter for your data, it's still a huge improvement but do know that when you go to access your platter drive, if it has stopped spinning, will take a bit to spin up and come on line, so that is going to be your bottle neck for speed. Now for the stuff you are probably wondering about. When looking at these drives, and comparing, look at the access speeds on these. You can get cheaper NVMe's but note the access speeds. I went with the P3+ because it's access speed is 5000. There are faster ones available too but I thought for the speed this P3+ (make sure it's the + version) has, the price was very reasonable. The bad, I was unaware, after buying these, that these DO wear out. I know platter drives do but that is a physical thing. These drives were out because of the technology used to write, erase and rewrite. I forget the name of it off hand but basically the memory on these wear out after so many writes/erases etc. Now granted, it's in terabytes and for some will last for years and maybe decades. Maybe even for me too, But I only bring this up because as I started looking into this, If you spare the extra money, I highly recommend going with the Crucial P5+. It's rating for life cycle is over 10Xs more than the P3+. The only thing about the P5+ however is that the largest size it currently comes in is 2TB. I did buy one of those too and I should have used that one as my system master drive. but I'm sure that the P3+ will be fine. I have a tendency to go full bore on just about everything I do. But because the P5+ TBW rating is so much higher, I marked this down on the durability portion. One other piece of advice I would give. If you're not in a hurry, continually keep checking on the price. I've seen the price going up and down on a daily basis. sometimes by as much as 75 dollars or more. So if your patient you can pick these up at a much better price if you just consistently keep checking. ... show more

  • Maxed out Gen3 PCIe
Capacity: 4TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
The 4tb was on sale and I couldn’t pass up the upgrade. I’ve had a 512GB gen 3 drive on my 8th gen Intel PC for years not really being much of an issue because I have a NAS where I can store just about anything but now it’s just incredible having 4tb of insanely fast local SSD storage. Even though my board only supports PCIe 3.0, I’m gladly able to saturate the available 4GB/s bandwidth using this drive. For me, the QLC and DRAM-less controller is not an issue since by the time I could even get close to hitting the TBW I’d be on a whole new computer. This price per gb is amazing and should satisfy the needs of 90% of users including gamers. ... show more

  • MacBook Pro 13” Retina 2015 (A1502)
Capacity: 4TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
I’ve been running a regular PCIe Gen3 NVME SSD 2TB in my MacBook Pro for about 4 years now. Wasn’t sure if this PCIe Gen4 would work or not. Worked just fine with the current adapter I was using on the motherboard. The only way to make the OS installer recognize the drive is to make a bootable USB with your OS of choice. You cannot do it through recovery mode or try to restore the image onto the new SSD. Read/Write was at 1,300/1,400. Not horrible but I don’t do anything extreme with this thing. Just wanted more storage as I ran out of my 2TB. While I was in there I replaced my battery and also cleaned out my fan and heat sink and also re-pasted my CPU with better thermal paste because MacBook’s are known to have horrible thermal paste applications from the factory. Just that alone lowered my temps by almost 10 degrees Celsius. Overall, I’m really happy I got this to work. You can either make a bootable USB with DiskMaker Pro or use Apple’s terminal method which is what I used since DiskMaker Pro is very finicky. Just search for it and there will be clear instruction on Apple’s own website. ... show more

  • Need a massive M2 SSD from a reliable brand that won't break the bank? This may be the one for you.
Capacity: 4TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
Sure, there are cheaper 4TB M2 drives out there but Crucial does get you the perfect mix of value and reliability from a known and trusted brand. Many of the cheaper options are from questionable and/or unknown manufacturers that I'm not sure you would want to trust with 4 terabytes worth of your data. Crucial, on the other hand, is a well known and respected brand (they are a brand of Micron Technology) that offers competitive pricing and good quality drives and memory. I currently use, or have used, other brands as well in builds I have done or my own machines and so far I have had the best experience with Crucial. The drives install easily, being M2 drives, and benchmark about as fast as you could hope to get for such an SSD. Both drives I ordered installed easily, were detected with no problems and were online and ready to go in no time. Only thing to watch for is make sure the drive is compatible with your hardware but this goes for pretty much any PC component. All in all I did a lot of shopping around when it came time to build this latest PC for myself and Crucial definitely hit the sweet spot of price and reliability. ... show more

  • I must've hit the silicon lottery
Capacity: 1TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
This was my first NVMe SSD and my first Crucial product, so I wasn't sure what to expect. They rated the drive 5000 mb/s, but I'm consistently benchmarking nearly 6500 mb/s write and 3600 mb/s read. I must have won the silicon lottery or something because I'm getting P5 plus speeds for a fraction of the cost. Needless to say I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and I'll be looking for more crucial storage/memory the next time I'm ready to upgrade. ... show more

  • These are reliable SSD's that don't break the bank.
Capacity: 2TB Style: P3 Plus Pattern Name: SSD
Crucial memory is always exceptionally reliable and comes at a more reasonable price than many other comparable products. Where this isn't the fast memory out there, it is fast enough. In most applications, many will not notice the difference in speed. Crucial memory is one of the best bargains out there. ... show more
