People, that is LIMESCALE, and is totally normal in a tea pot. There are minerals left behind that do not evaporate. They build up, and you have limescale. To remove: 1. In a large bowl, mix 2 cups water and 2 cups of white vinegar. 2. Pour the water-vinegar solution into the kettle. 3. Bring the water-vinegar solution to a boil. 4. When the kettle boils, turn it off and unplug. 5. Let the solution soak for 20 minutes, then pour it out. But if the scaling has been left untreated for a long time, leave the solution to soak for 60 minutes. 6. Once the kettle has cooled down, scrub the inside of it using an old toothbrush. Do not scrub the heating element on the bottom of the kettle as it may get damaged. 7. Rinse with water to remove vinegar residue. 8. Wipe down the inside of the kettle with a microfibre cloth.     • issues resolved - very nice kettle!

UPDATE June 2023-- After submitting a similar review of this kettle directly to Cosori, they contacted me for more details. After providing that feedback and info, they sent me a replacement. This one is working just fine! The water temperature is well within their ±5° and does so no matter how much water is in the pot. Looks like the first one was a lemon. (I donated it to a local small church with the warning about inaccurate settings. They didn't care.) Kudos to Cosori for standing behind their product. I can now recommend this electric kettle as a good value for the price. First the positives : It does a pretty good job of bringing a full pot to boil fairly quickly. The keep warm feature is actually useful if you know how it will behave. Having multiple preset temperature settings sounded like a nice feature. It feels sturdy and well made. Now the negatives: Like a few other reviews have noted, the accuracy is inconsistent. It gets more accurate with a full pot but never quite consistently the same. Setting it to the lowest temperature, 165°, and filling to 0.7 L, it's consistently bringing the water to over 175°. Setting to 175° often exceeds 190°. However a full or nearly full 1.7 L pot usually ends up within 5° of the setting but always higher, which is technically within the range they claim as "accurate." Still, it seems a little ludicrous to say it's accurate and offer five different temperature presets at 5°, 10°, 15° intervals when they can be off by well over 5° either way! I'm not returning it because it is a well water kettle, and I have resolved myself to checking temperature with a Javelin Pro instant read thermometer if it's critical or setting it for 10° lower than I really want. It's just frustrating when I paid twice as much for the preset temperature setting feature. I thought this would be a nice upgrade over a very basic and inexpensive electric water kettle that lasted almost 10 years. I thought it would be nice not having to hover over the kettle using the thermometer every time I want to have a cup of coffee in my Aeropress. I'm not sure why there aren't more complaints about accuracy in the reviews unless I got a lemon. In general I have found that Cosori products are quality made but this one leaves me feeling dissatisfied. ... show more

The Cosori Hot Water Kettle is an excellent product. We love the glass, love the simplicity, and absolutely love that there is NO beep. The kettle looks great, has a subtle blue light at the base of the glass kettle when heating (the blue light is great) and most importantly, it gets the water to a full rolling boil. For years we used a high end named brand stainless steel kettle that had the annoying beep and the boil barely lasted. The Cosori hot water kettle is a major step up in design and function.
