  • Comfortbilt Small pellet stove
Unit works well overall although slightly temperamental on low heat settings. It puts out superior heat for its size, but it sometimes hums and rattles at certain points in its cycle. Easy to clean overall with the exception of the viewing glass as it carbonated quickly which detracts from the viewing pleasure. ... show more

  • Compact unit, plenty of heat, solid value
I needed a small sized unit. I'm using it to heat my 1000 square foot basement home. This thing has absolutely no problem whatsoever heating my home. I always run it in manual mode. Through countless hours of experimentation & research, the results as follows are my own personal programming that l personally use on my HP40 : Level 1 ( burn rate ~1.3 # per hour , feed on 02, feed off 18, exhaust 80 volts , blower 95 volts ) Kill-A-Watt ~50 watts Level 2 ( burn rate ~ 1.85 # per hour, feed on 03 ,feed off 17, exhaust 83 volts, blower 100 volts ) Kill-A-Watt ~ 55 watts Level 3 ( burn rate ~2.5 # per hour, feed on 04, feed off 16, exhaust 90 volts, blower 115 volts ) Kill-A-Watt ~ 66 watts I never use level 4 or 5 because the first 3 levels burn very efficiently. Also l adjusted the intake Air to mostly closed. I run a 7 foot long 2" clean air intake and l have the DuraVent 3" double wall piping. I use hardwood pellets from Busy Beaver and have used Tractor Supply but the Busy Beaver pellets burn more complete and make it easier to clean. l could use the ECO mode which would automatically turn off and on by thermostat setting, however, ECO mode would wreck havoc on the poor ignitor, essentially prematurely wearing it out. No thanks. What l do is run this on manual mode on level 1 heat setting. Here's why: during ignition phase the unit needs approximately 500 ish watts for 5 to 10 minutes to ignite the pellets in the burn pot. After ignition, this goes into heating mode. In heating mode it's only drawing approximately 50 watts per my Kill-A-Watt meter. So if you run in ECO mode it'll cycle on and off which uses more electricity AND prematurely wears out the ignitor. ECO mode is not economical in the long run. The best thing you can do is let it eat while keeping cycling on and off to a minimum. Think of it as a gasoline engine : You don't get maximum efficiency by doing short trips turning engine off and on, same thing here, turn it on and let it eat. The good thing here is you have 5 heat settings to choose from. This unit is so small that l vacuum mine every day. I shut it down and an hour or so later after it's cool l shop vac the burn pot, underneath the burn pot, vacuum the ashtray and wipe the inside glass with a moist rag using only tap water. This only takes a few minutes. Remember a clean , well maintained unit will be efficient and reliable and last much longer. Because of it's small size it's a breeze to clean. The hopper holds around 25#, which will provide around anywhere from 8 hrs on level 5, to around 24 hrs on level 1. I personally fine tuned my combustion feed rate, exhaust voltage and blower voltage to where my unit burns about one pound per hour ( give or take ) on level 1 ( lowest heat setting ) Customer service is outstanding. Jordan was my service rep and he was very helpful, patient, respectful and a real pleasure to deal with. My only complaint is that the pellets get somewhat hung up in the hopper. A redesign in this area would really help ( reverse the rivets? ) Would be my solution My advice for anyone considering buying a pellet stove is that it's not " set it and forget it " , especially this unit with it's dinky hopper. You need to be relatively strong to handle those 40# bags on occasion, not afraid to get a little dirty, not afraid to invest some time & energy into daily maintenance ( namely cleaning your stove ), thoroughly read your owners manual. Then read it again. In essence, to be quite blunt : " give an eff " about your stove. If this sounds like you then by all means buy one. If you're the type who wouldn't be bothered with daily cleaning , then pellet stoves are definitely not for you. Good luck and l hope this helped! Oh yeah, the secret code is ⬆️⬇️⬆️⬆️⬇️⬆️ to access the combustion rates. My unit is out of warranty now so l have no worries on voiding my warranty. If you're having trouble with efficiency and burn rates, give mine a try, you can always do a factory reset. Hopefully l helped someone out! ... show more

  • Very Disappointing — Noisy, Weak Heating, and Far from “Smart”
I really wanted to like this Comfortbilt HP40, but after several weeks of use, I’m honestly disappointed. The product does not perform anywhere near its advertised heating capacity, and several design issues make it frustrating to use. 1. Extremely Loud The first thing you notice is the noise. This unit is loud. The fan and feed system produce a constant mechanical sound that is impossible to ignore. It’s far noisier than any pellet stove I’ve used before, to the point where it becomes unpleasant to stay in the same room for long periods. 2. Heating Performance Is Far Below the Rating My house has both an 18k BTU heat pump and this pellet stove installed. For comparison: With the heat pump, the temperature rises from 59°F to 77°F in about 15 minutes. With the HP40 pellet stove, after one full hour, the room only reached 66°F. This is nowhere close to the advertised 1,500 ft² heating capability. At best, this stove can serve as supplemental heat, but not your primary heating source. If you expect strong, fast heating, this unit will disappoint you. 3. Very Poor “Smart” Functionality The stove is described as having intelligent controls, but in reality, it’s far from smart. One serious flaw is that it keeps feeding pellets even when it hasn’t ignited, wasting fuel and potentially creating safety concerns. The control logic feels outdated and poorly optimized. 4. Only Suitable as a Backup Heater After testing it thoroughly, I can say this stove is only usable as a secondary heater, not a main heat source. It lacks the heating power, efficiency, and intelligence that the product description claims. ... show more

  • Little control of blower speed and pellets blown out of cup.
Basic review of the hp40 pellet stove. 1] Installation of the stove pipe through the wall from tractor supply. Cutting large diameter hole through your wall was the most difficult part. 2] fresh air hole regular 2-1/4 hole saw. Easy 3] hp40 plug and play but read up on the instructions as you want to know how to adjust properly the temp eco mode is one I find very useful to maintain a good temperature control. The eco mode will decrease the igniter life so be cautious. 4] performance of the heater is sufficient but find the pellet blown out of the cup and no adjustments for feeder screw or fan speed . Use manual mode to adjust your fire height and save on wasted pellet. Summary I would buy a unit I could adjust the feeder screw and blower speed as the air blows out the pellets. ... show more

  • ComfortBilt Pellet Stove Exceeds Expectations
I waited to write a review on the ComfortBilt pellet stove to see if it would hold up. This stove has been a life saver! I have an un-insulated green house style work shop that is 14 degrees this morning. In a short while, my jacket will be off and working in a 70+ degree shop. I love it.
