  • Great peformance
Bought a 5040 September 20, 2015 for our game room. We already had a King pellet stove we used to heat the common area of our home. We like the USS 5040 because it cycles off on thermostat. The King just cycles down to minimum. It often runs at minimum because the temperature is above thermostat setpoint. So we sold the King recently and bought another USS 5040. We are puzzled at the negative reviews. As I read them, I wonder if they are being operated correctly. In particular, we learned some time ago that the hopper has to be kept full, because any pellet stove will direct smoke backward through the auger tube when hopper level is low. Think about it, The auger tube connects directly to the fire chamber. The fire chamber is pressurized by the combustion blower. The pellets in the hopper act as a seal to prevent smoke from backing into the hopper. My guess is that people are leaving the stove unattended, then the hopper level goes low, then smoke backs into the auger tube and then into the room. We also clean the burn pot daily when we are operating the stove a lot. We also vacuum the stove almost daily, with a bucket vacuum located outside and connected via a through-wall tube. Pellet stoves are not like gas furnaces. They require attention and maintenance. We've had three, and when we do this, they have all operated very well. The heat is comfortable, and the ambience of the fire is pleasant. New stove arrived yesterday. Had to add an additional 3" swivel to connect it. Filled the hopper, set the thermostat. It started immediately. Ran it all evening, and used it this morning to take the chill off. Ran the stove at least three weeks with no issues. This evening, it wouldn't start after cycling all day. Reset it and attempted to restart it. listened and heard the auger motor running, but the auger wasn't turning. Took the back off. Observed that the auger motor was uncoupled and laying on the bottom of the stove. Also saw a vey bent cotter pin. Cotter pins have to be inserted so that they rest on the shaft. I l suspect that this cotter pin hadn't been inserted fully. Difficult to get to, small clearances. So I straigtened the pin with a hammer and plliers. Re-installed it correctly, and everything works. Thanks to Amazon for listening to me and compensating me for the repairs. I recommend this stove and Jana, who helped me. ... show more

  • Company will refuse to help
I recently bought a different model from US Stove and this was my experience: The control panel was dead on arrival. They sent another panel, but you're responsible for installing it yourself. The unit worked for two weeks and then started smoking out of every crevice (not the back - literally out of every crevice). Fortunately I was home, but this should not happen. I had to pour water in the fire box to put out the smolder - the stove didn't really function properly. The company offered $30/hour - that's right - THIRTY - for me to hire someone to look at it. As you can imagine, I can't get anyone to even call me back at $30/hour. The company won't take it back and they won't help in any other way. I have a $2,000 piece of useless metal in my house. US Stove apparently does business this way - do more research on the COMPANY (not just the stove) before buying. ... show more

  • 26% Tax credit, who gets it, me or the mfg?
Just trying to find out if this unit is 75% efficient because it would then qualify for the new tax credit of 26% in 2022.

  • Poor quality stove
I'm on my second stove in one year. The first one was riddled with problems. It only worked for 1 week then just stopped. Their customer service is friendly but doesn't seem to care. They had me completely rebuild my first stove by sending me all of the replaceable parts inside of it one by one until they decided that the stove was just a lemon. They finally agreed to replace the stove and that took 3 months to finally get the replacement. The replacement stove worked perfectly for 2 months and then the auger broke. I just today received the parts to fix it. I just cant believe how bad the quality is on these American made stoves. ... show more

  • US Stove Design Fail
US Stove design failed. Almost burned down my house. Fire got into the hopper with 30 lbs of fuel and I got home just in time to empty the black smoking pellets from the back. It was operating as designed too. And customer service won’t have it fixed.

We bought this to occasionally heat our camp in NH. Even after low usage and professional cleaning this stove malfunctions. Strongly encourage you to avoid this lemon..
