  • Worth The Low Cost
Style: Serenity
Update - Now that I have had this for a year, I wanted to update my review. After experimenting with exhaust blower speeds and the air inlet restriction adjustment, this stove works great! The hopper size is definitely it's weak point, but for the money, this stove is completely exceeding expectations. I also figure out the occasional "expansion" noises were due to the fact that I did not have the machine's weight evenly distributed over all four feet. Once I adjusted those to be about even, the only noise is the clinking of the pellets as the come down the shoot. You will need to factor in a time period to figure out the right combination of adjustments based on altitude, pipe length, and pellet quality. Once you do that, it's pretty much set it and forget it. I run it on the #2 setting most of the time and it keeps my 2200 sq. ft. tri-level home plenty warm enough. Below this sentence is my original review from last year when I received the stove. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I need to say that for a $1,000 pellet stove, this thing did not disappoint me at all. I got exactly what I paid for and I knew that when I bought it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the manufacturer could easily change just a couple of things on this to improve it with minimum impact to the cost, and it would be a top notch bargain. First of all, the shipping was good and it arrived in good shape. I did however need to go through and re-tighten every external screw on the thing. Let's get this out as well - some people complain about the nit-pickiest of things. Yes, this stove makes a few noises now and then from thermal cycling. EVERY stove does. When metal heats, it expands, and the joints are designed for that to "give" a little bit when that happens. Once the unit reaches thermal equilibrium, it is fine. If you are type A, suffer from high anxiety, and every little thing sets you off, you will not enjoy this or any other wood stove. This stove is no louder in operation overall than any others including Harmon. This unit will only run 18 hours on one 40lb. bag of pellets if it's on the lowest setting. On number 3 of 5, it will eat that bag in 12-13 hours. The hopper is truly only built for 40 lbs. of pellets so you will feed this stove at least twice a day. Again, I knew that before I bought it so no docking points there. It burns both soft and hard wood pellets perfectly. You do have to adjust the exhaust fan voltage a bit if opening the inlet gate (Inside the stove) doesn't work by itself. It's a bit of a dance to tune this stove, but once you do, it burns extremely well and very clean. YOU WILL NEED TO BE PATIENT TO DO THAT CORRECTLY. It is a game of wait and see and you need to adjust with small increments. Cleaning is it's strong point. It takes about 2 minutes to clean it and it's as easy as it gets. The blower on this is a bit loud, but not overly so compared to other brands. It does a good job and is fully adjustable for speed. If the manufacturer would increase the size by just a little bit and make it able to hold 50lbs. of pellets, this would make it so much easier to load. As it is, you have to throw a partial bag in to keep things going when it needs more fuel. Also, to clean the blower as they recommend once a month during continuous use, they should use some other type of fastener instead of phillips head screws. These will eventually wear out and need to be oversized once the threads wear out. Lastly, they need to increase the opening of the lid to the hopper. It's just big enough to dump the bag in and if you move even slightly towards the front, you spill pellets on top and get dust down the vent holes. It's a pain when you are in a hurry. This stove is well worth the money though. If you want a top quality stove that will last a lifetime, this aint it. It is however a good quality stove that I expect 8-10 years of operation from with the slightest of inconveniences. ... show more

This pellet stove does what it says, far better than the box store brand I had that was noisy and did not heat my 1300 square foot home but the Castle serenity gets my whole house nice and warm, runs quite and I love the way you can program the settings

This unit is rather heavy and you may need to use a dolly to get it in the house. Amazon does sell this unit and they do deliver to your home. But they won't set it up. Just delivery. You do have to plug into a wall outlet, and the cord length is about six-foot length. You do have to have a two-inch vent tube for outside air and anther four inch outside vent for the exhaust to vent. The smoke is like a cigarette puff without the white smoke. i don/t play with the control panel except to just turn it on and adjust fan speed. There is a self-diagnostic mode on the panel in case you need help and you can set a schedule for hour or day of operation. Again, I don't use that feature. While it does use 40 pounds of pellet bag. It does not burn all the pellets in the bin that holds the pellets. So have add more and check on it every couple of hours. If my fan is set on number two on the panel, that will run up to 16 hours with a full bag. Temperatures below 30 degrees, the fan speed is set at three. 40-50 degrees can make the room feel hot. This also depends on your windows. Mine are not insulated and use a window blind that shields the window from losing heat. Doing that gives the house another five degrees of heat. Cleaning is a breeze. Use one of those ash vacuums cleaners. I notice the burn pot accumulate ash caked up on the bottom. Use a wired toothbrush and scrape it out. That you should do every and use window cleaner to clean glass window. I use the vacuum every two days. It does not accumulate ash like a wood stove does and less ash. Hence every other day to vacuum it out. There is a plastic hose attached behind and run up into a vacuum switch. It is like a toothpick size on the right size toward the middle on the inside next to burn pot. If that cakes with ash, it will shut the unit down and trigger a low pressure reading on the panel. I just use the vacuum and vacuum it out. I let the unit shut down and turn itself off. that procedure takes about 40 minutes to cool off. the unit takes about five minutes to start up into a flame and then the blower motor kicks in. The pellet bin is rather awkward and the pellets make a v shape pattern. I use gloves to prevent burn and swish the pellets toward the middle and adding pellets as necessary. Never melted the plastic bag when the bag touched the stove, but it can feel hot. When I first got my stive. The auger made a squealing sound when it first or breaking in. Just used oil bottle from the ones you put into A/C units. It broke in and didn't need to add any more oil to the bottom silver round part of the circle. Did have to use a cup to remove the pellets to get to the visual part of the auger. About after 15 times of oiling the auger, it stopped squealing. You can hear the squealing sound in another room. Don't make the mistake of not cleaning your pellet stove out after the season is over. The first thing is you might have to order a blower fan gasket which looks like a round sandpaper size. Might as well order two while your at it. Mainly the exhaust area where you have to remove the right-side panel. The one where your exhaust vent is. held together by four torx screws. I used break cleaner on a paper owl and wiped it off. The ports where, you can use a wire brush and clean it out and then vacuum it out. The gasket is right behind the fan blade. I ended up breaking off one torx screw and it has four to hold the blower motor in place. That one torx screw would not move. Thinking it stripped. Clean it out after the season because you'll end up cleaning ir out anyway thinking I could get away without doing that part of maintenance. Otherwise the stove will run for a little bit and then shut down with high temperature on panel. The low panel temperature is that toothpick side is clogged with ash. Clean it out. Believe me, the research I did with reading to figure things out is very little information. They mostly want you to take things apart and use a multi meter to check things. That can be a pain looking at things. This was my experience using the stove and may save you some time on figuring problems or issues. It is a great medium size unit and heats quite well. The bonus I think is no house vents that blow out dirty air. Pellet bags are close to six dollars a bag. 42 bucks for 7 days plus tax. 168 dollars for 30 days. Compare that to your gas bill. And you pay up front. So you already know what you're paying. I had mine for two seasons and it has work out quite well for me. Minus the issues I had with it. ... show more
