  • Super happy!
Style: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) Color: 6G Light Golden Chestnut
I am super happy with this semi-permanent hair color. My goal is to grow out my gray underneath the semi permanent color so that I can one day wash out the color completely and see what’s going on there and then either have fun with semi permanent color or if I’m lazy or too old to care just let it go. I’m sorry about not posting a picture, but I’d rather not have my images on Amazon. Out of laziness I have been coloring my hair dark golden blonde with permanent color just so that the gray regrowth is less noticeable and I don’t have to color it the second it comes in. It’s been okay but I have felt a little washed out and I don’t like that red thing that happens at the roots when you lift to a couple shades lighter than your natural color. I think I’ve found the answer with using a combination of Rich Walnut and Golden Chestnut of this hair color. I start by using Rich Walnut on about the first inch of hair growth from my scalp. I do all of my roots this way and then using a gloved hand I put some Rich Walnut hair color and work it into the full length of just the darkest part of my hair in the back, underneath the hair that shows from the top. I am very careful to not put the Rich walnut on the top hairs – I want to keep them lighter. Then I work the Golden Chestnut into the rest of my hair, sometimes mixing a little Rich Walnut into it before applying it. I just make sure I have my whole hair saturated with the Golden Chestnut before starting the clock. It comes out beautifully! The roots are darker but it looks rich and natural – it’s kind of like adding low lights I guess. This method avoids that weird red roots issue but still gives you the lightness on top, like you’ve had highlights done. The transition from the dark to light color is very natural too, not abrupt. These particular colors are warm colors so if your skin can’t take a warm color this probably won’t work well, but for me it’s perfect. I really couldn’t be happier. I haven’t gone through a whole color cycle yet time wise. I bathe more often but I wash my hair 2x per week. I wash my hair now in the sink in cold water (no way I’m taking a cold shower haha) with sulfate free shampoo and the color is holding well, fading as expected but at a nice slow pace. This is the first semi permanent hair color that has stayed in my hair for more than a couple of washes. I am very, very happy. ... show more

  • Covers gray hair without commitment
Style: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) Color: 2N Espresso Bean
My hair is naturally curly. For many years, I had it chemically straightened with a relaxer. But, I had to quit with that treatment when my hair started to go grey. It required a treatment so mild that it was hard not to overprocess. That said, I know that if I use a permanent solution, then I can not go back to a relaxer ever. And, after four or five years of growing my hair out (shoulder length, no big chop), I don't want to go through that again. So, I have been stuck in limbo about how to cover the grays. Done properly, this works well. (Unfortunately, hair dressers did not do a through enough job for this inexpensive solution to work.). If I apply it like a bleach - thin sections, working it in, coating both sides generously - it works well. I like the results even better when I coat my hair with the red protein filler (at Sally's) that blondes use when they want to go brunette. This helps to fill in the greys and warm up the hair. It takes a long time for the color to fade. And, it can be applied to dry hair and then placed under heat for touch-ups in the front. Of course, as I gradually get more gray, they start to show through sooner. Also, putting moisture on - which is a must for curly hair - also shortens how long it lasts. Some things that help are (1) applying this after washing and conditioning my hair (which is what stylist do), (2) rinse with cold water to remove excess color (3) it seems to do better if I let it set and dry before applying moisture. So, I might use a leave-in conditioner and let it dry first. I also like to rinse off my deep conditioner in the front, apply this to the edges, and then get back under the heat for a bit to touch up my hairline in the front. I like the fact that this is easy to clean. I wash any clothing in hot water. It tends to rinse away in water. To be sure I will prewash the tub or sink and then scrub with an abrasive cleaner like Comet (yes, they still sell it. at the dollar store. and it still works.) or a Magic Eraser just to be sure. But, clean-up is pretty easy with this as compared to most other hair coloring. So, I feel that this is a great way to cover grays. And, I love that it is economical too. ... show more

  • Darker than expected
Style: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) Color: 6G Light Golden Chestnut
Probably it is my fault for not knowing what color my hair is, but I found it darker than expected. I bought a lighter shade the second time, but was still too dark for me, now I am going to try the lightest one. Finger crossed! Pro: it covers gray hair. Cons: It leaves the hair a little dry, but not as much as if there was bleach, and the smell is not the best. ... show more
