  • Don't Bother, These Plugs are Very Weak and Split and Leak
Style: Standard Replacement Drain Plugs
Every one of these plugs that I have installed have leaked within a year or less. One didn't even last three days before hot water began to spray out. Camco should be ashamed to be selling this junk. Typically, the split will occur between the threads just underneath the hex head of this plug. The material appears to be either polyethylene or nylon (polyamide). This plug is very weak because the material is weak to begin with, especially for a hot water application, and some penny-pincher decided to save two cents of plastic resin and made the center of the plug HOLLOW!!!! The plug is very thin at the root of the threads. Why, why, why do they allow junk like this to be sold? And if the hex head of the plug breaks off while you are tightening or trying to remove the leaky plug, it is a serious PITA to remove the remaining piece in the threaded drain hole. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and buy a brass NPT plug instead. ... show more

  • Works on a Dometic/Atwood RV water heater
Style: Water Heater Drain Plugs and Wrench Kit
My travel trailer, a Coachmen Freedom Express 192RBS, came with a Dometic/Atwood hot water heater. The design layout of the hot water heater is really crummy in that it makes it really hard to access the drain plug to remove the water from the tank at the end of the season. The 15/16" drain plug is blocked by other associated hardware, making traditional wrenches unable to access the plug. Even with this wrench it was initially hard to turn the plug. With the angled design I was able to get it to the plug, but at first I could only turn the plug a few degrees. I thought I would be forced to make many micro-turns to get the plug unscrewed, however I discovered that by angling the wrench even more, so that the bottom part of the wrench was placed on the rear of the plug and the top on the outer side, I could get the wrench past the main obstruction and remove the plug faster. Four stars for the wrench. The replacement plugs I didn't use nor review. They look pretty cheap though, so if my OEM plug wears out I'll almost certainly buy that separately. The Teflon tape for the threads is a nice touch; that helps prevent leaking once the plug is reinstalled in the spring. As with all plumber's tape, however, make sure you wrap it around the threads in the proper direction so as the plug is screwed in, the end of the tape isn't being unwound by the direction of rotation. ... show more

  • Works Well
Style: Water Heater Drain Plugs and Wrench Kit
This wrench works well on my 6-gallon Atwood electric/gas water heater in my Grand Design Imagine RV. Much better than a crescent wrench. Not as easy as a socket with extension. But definitely does the job. It takes about 5 - 6 re-grips on the plug to loosen it, since space limitations only allow about 1/6th turn at a time. The stock plug had a 15/16" hex head. The two included spare plugs have a 7/8" hex head. The wrench works with both sizes. I think the stock plug will last a long time before needed the spare plugs, but it's good to have the spares. Good little tool to keep with the RV. ... show more

  • Watch out for cheap replacements
Style: Standard Replacement Drain Plugs
After my original RV hot water heater plug needed replacement, I thought a CAMCO product would work great. It did for about 9 months. I'm hooked up to city water (under normal pressure) at a campground and I noticed water dripping out from my hot water heater cover. I open the door and tiny streams of water are spraying out from the head of my CAMCO plug. I had saved my old plug and compared it to the CAMCO one which was MUCH THINNER than the original. Compared to most RV parts, this piece is cheap...so don't cheap out buying a low-price replacement you'll regret at some point. ... show more

  • Total Waste of Money and the worst tool I ever bought.
Style: Water Heater Drain Plugs and Wrench Kit
Just about the most worthless tool I ever bought! I assumed it would fit the Camco Water Heater Drain Kit but the large (15/16") socket was just a tad too small to engage the large plug on my water heater and the 7/8" wrench might have fit the drain valve plug but it was impossible to get the wrench opening over the drain valve tabs that you turn to open the valve. Thus it was impossible to engage the plug head to unscrew it. In addition, even if any of the sockets had worked, on my Suburban water heater there was no way the wrench would work as there isn't enough unobscured space to turn the wrench without hitting the gas line, flame chute, or heat shields. I couldn't even position it so that it would align with the plug head to engage it, much less turn it to unscrew the plug! The so called "prongs" (which I assumed could be used to turn the drain valve tabs) are impossible to engage with them, as the 1/4" outlet drain collar is longer than the prongs so it is impossible to reach the tabs. In short, there was absolutely no part of this wrench that worked. This was possibly the worst tool investment I ever made! ... show more

  • Wrench won't work on my Atwood 6 gallon!
Style: Water Heater Drain Plugs and Wrench Kit
The drain plugs themselves work fine on my Atwood 6 gallon water heater. The wrench is useless though! Absolutely no way to get this wrench on the plug and have room to turn it. Ended up using a socket with a 3/8 ratchet and long extension. The wrench may work on others, but just the total wrong angle to get to the plug on my Atwood. You would think that Camco could engineer a wrench that fits the most common RV water heater in existence! ... show more

  • The threads fit my Airstream Dometic water heater
Style: Standard Replacement Drain Plugs
I have a 19 foot Bambi with model #GE 9 EXT W/PL dometic water heater. 6 Gal The wrench end on this is smaller and needed a 22MM socket vs the 24 mm socket on the OEM one. This Camco will work as it did thread in. I did not pressure check it as this is a spare to keep in the trailer while on the road. I have not seen any reason on my hand tight test why this won't work. ... show more

  • Great Quality But Not Compatible w/my RV
Style: Water Heater Drain Plugs and Wrench Kit
Was torn as to how to rate this product. As to quality of product, durability and value, I’d say it is a 5-Star product. My issue is in its use. Perhaps different RV models are designed differently than mine in such a way as to make the product practically useless for me. It is angled to work around the small pipes located in front of the hot water heater plug. Even so, this tool does not work with my RV’s design. It appears that only a deep well socket will work with my setup. ... show more
