Less than 2 weeks after installing this umbrella on my deck, a VERY MILD breeze came by while the umbrella was open, and the pole cracked and folded over. It split wide open near the bottom of the upper section of the pole, where it's compressed to fit into the lower section. (see photo) An umbrella designed for outdoor use has got to be designed to withstand winds of more than a few (5?) miles per hour, since this will be a common occurrence. Ideally, it should be able to withstand 20-30 MPH while open. Based on this experience, I would be very wary of buying any umbrella from California Umbrellas. Try a different brand! ... show more

The fabric is a slightly textured great material and looks wonderful. I am very pleased. They were easy to assemble but I won’t be using them until next summer ( got them now on sale) so I’ll update then, but the crank moves smoothly and the terraced layers are a plus! I recommend these umbrellas.

Best umbrella ever! We live in San Diego and leave it out year round. We’ve had one for 4 years and it still looks great! Tried a competitor’s early and it faded in less than a year.
