The media could not be loaded. So I just received my Brother printer and so far so good! Set-up was super easy like everyone said! Initially I saw the fold-out paper of the instructions and was like, “UH THAT’S A LOT OF STEPS” …but it actually wasn’t once I started LOL. Literally took me like 5 minutes to setup. The only thing that threw me off is when I tried to get the Remote Print setup connected. It kept saying it wouldn’t connect so I got frustrated. Turns out, it’s not supposed to connect in the app. According to the Brother’s instructions online, you actually are SUPPOSED to select “Activate Later” — and in order to print from your phone, you have to go to Settings on your printer, click Network, click Wifi-Direct (if you’re using your printer and phone wirelessly), select Manual and remember your SSID and Password. Then go to your phone’s wifi settings and select your SSID, enter the password. TADA! You can now print from your phone. So don’t be alarmed if you can’t connect the Remote Print in the Mobile Connect app, it’s not supposed to connect. Follow the steps above! I also added a video of how fast it prints! Along with the print quality for color photos. I will say, if you’re suuuuuper picky about photo quality, this one may not be for you. Though the pictures came out pretty, you can clearly see a little bit of grainy-ness in the video (I tried to zoom in with a clear shot so you can tell during the video - the only reason why I gave this printer 4 stars). But if you’re not too picky and want something that can just get the job done, get it! I’m picky with photo quality but I can definitely deal with this, it’s not that bad. I also don’t understand why the people giving bad reviews on not being able to find the Black ink didn’t just sign-up for the subscription…. I only have to pay $2.50 a month for 40 pages (you can obviously pay more for more pages, $4.50 for 80 pages, $9.99 for 200 pages, or $15.99 for 400 pages a month, and if you use more page outside of the subscription it’s an additional $1 per 10/15 pages — and the ink will auto-deliver to your home once it detects your ink is low. Put it this way: I pay $2.50 a month. I can print super colorful pictures with my 40 pages and run my ink low. They’ll ship me new ink cartridges right away. So I just got 40 pages + ink for $2.50. Get what I’m saying?). The subscription is 100% worth it. I owned an HP printer for 4 and a half years before owning this Brother printer and I was also on the HP subscription - SUPER CONVENIENT PEOPLE!!! I wanted a printer that I can share over two computers in my house. My previous Brother all-in-one printer worked fine until the paper transport system started wearing out. Started pulling two sheets at once, offset so when printed both were wasted. Worked ok printing a single sheet at a time in the paper tray. The machine worked ok for many years but that was a pain. So I ordered this machine as a replacement. Same basic features Print, Scan, Copy, Fax, plus this one had wireless printing from your phone, which I may or may not use. When I tried to load the software for this machine, it wouldn't load with the machine connected to Ethernet / Internet. Tried everything with hours of support calls and emails. The only way I could get the software to load correctly was with direct USB connection to the computer. Support guy told me I could then switch to Ethernet after loading the software. Didn't work. So now I have a machine that I can't share with my wife's computer over our home network. I suppose I could try wifi, but I really don't like that method because I have a bunch of other things on wifi already and it's slow. So she just emails me anything that needs to be printed in color and I print it. A minor but annoying step backward. By the way, I could get the machine to work on ethernet just as a printer, but the scanning software wouldn't load, so that's a dealbreaker. I love the scanning software for generating multi-page PDFs. Something I use the most now for transmitting forms and docs over the internet. ... show more

    • GET THIS ONE!

Hey, I’m just like most of you guys out there, I don’t know jack about printers, all I want is to NOT get ripped off buying some piece of junk that is going to piss me off and cause me a bunch of aggravation and hassles before I end up reboxing the damn thing and hauling it down to UPS to send back for a refund. That scenario I have been through several times before I found THIS one. This particular Brother Model was recommended to me by the computer geek who came over to try to get my previous printer repaired and told me it was unrepairable and to send it back and get THIS one. Which I did and am eternally grateful to him because THIS printer performs flawlessly and was a breeze to set up and prints easily off all my devices including cellphone, laptop, iPad, and desktop. ZERO problems after 4 months now. I know it’s a roll of the dice whenever non techy people like you and me go surfing around Amazon for stuff like this. Believe me, I feel your pain. Just let me assure you that if you are looking for a reliable, hassle free, no nonsense printer at a reasonable price that won’t have you cussing up a storm and screaming at the top of your lungs trying to get the damn thing to work right, well, THIS is the one. I love love love this machine. It works so well with my phone can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner. I can scan print copy and fax with my phone and connect the printer to my home Wi-Fi and it comes with a subscription. Basically when you connect it to your Wi-Fi and pay for the subscription which is only $5, the printer tells the company when the ink is running low and they automatically send new ink cartridges and free paper. And the app it comes with does all the work and automatically Registers your warranty for you. And you can use different size printing paper too. ... show more

It's a competent printer except for the fact that replacement ink cartridges specifically black aren't easy to get right now. If you're looking for a small sleek AIO printer in the $150 price range you may want to see what Canon and HP have to offer. I had a MFC-J825 for about 10 years and replaced it with this one. It's perfectly fine for me but I have concerns about ink availability in the short term. ... show more
