  • Really quite a quality unit! I am impressed...
Style: DCPL2520DW
This Is an AWESOME laser printer for under $100 (if you get the Amazon "used" selection, which actually isn't used at all. It just has a slightly damaged box, nothing more). This printer has WAY more features than what 99% of people want or need: fax, print, scan, copy, duplex printing, wireless Print/Scan/Copy, print from computer or smartphone, multiple copy style defaults like 4 pages to one, or 6 to one, adjustments to size, to contrast, to type, etc, etc, etc. Too many things to list. I bought this to replace a 15 year old HP inkjet printer that I had nursed and nursed. Wish I had changed sooner because this thing was painless. Even my wife was impressed, as she probably prints 150 coupons a week, and needs a reliable printer. Speaking of which, I had this set up for wireless laser prints within 15 minutes, from my 6 year old MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.5 and also from my 4 year old iPhone 5 running iOS 9.3. Didn't use any new software, didn't download (except for the iPhone iOS app), didn't use the CD. I'm really not sure what the others are complaining about, since it is almost stupid-proof. I think it actually has 5 or 6 independent methods to "connect" to your wireless devices (computer, phone, router, etc.), and then there is the old stand-by, the ubiquitous USB cable. But I just followed their VERY simple directions for wirelessly setting up for wireless printing (sounds funny) and, voila, it has worked flawlessly ever since. Also, relating to those who are having the "sleep" issues (I TRIED to make the printer not work and it wakes even from DEEP sleep (not sure why they have sleep mode and DEEP sleep, but, I digress)), there is a firmware update for you. There is also a simple web interface with their printer that you can use to change how it connects to the internet, your router, other devices, get firmware updates, gives device status, sets sleep time, auto power off time, maintenance information like toner left, life left in drum unit, and many more... Printing is fast, quiet, clean and crisp. Use high quality 22lb or 24lb bright-white paper, and you'll be impressed. Especially when you "count the costs" and find that it's less than a penny a page. Order the compatible toner cartridge for $10 and you'll never look back. Even a new drum unit (which is generally quite pricey), is about $18 for an aftermarket unit, and you'll only need that after 12,000 pages!! ... show more

  • I didn't need the Fax availibility and didn't really need the copy/scan plate but it's a nice feature to have if ever needed
Style: DCPL2520DW
I've had this for about a day. I just went through 3 HP printers that were not compatible with El Capitan 10.11.3, regardless of what they tell you. It took approx. 20-30 mins to set up this Brother printer. But that is only because I took time to download latest drivers/firmware. It printed a test page perfectly within 5 minutes but I needed to set up the wireless connection and wanted to make sure I had the latest of the latest firmware, especially after reading about many other Brother printers having an issue with sleep mode running on El Capitan. It arrived in it's retail box which at first glance is REALLY big but once inside you can see it's just well protected. I didn't need the Fax availibility and didn't really need the copy/scan plate but it's a nice feature to have if ever needed. It came with a power cord attached so make sure you have the proper USB cord before it arrives. That's it, there is nothing else in the box except for the toner which installed in less than a minute. This printer did go into sleep mode rather quickly but I did not adjust any settings. I downloaded the Brother iPrint app on my iPhone 6Plus and after connecting the printer to my wireless network, I printed from my iPhone within a couple minutes. I then left the house for about an hour. When I came back I printed an email from my Macbook Pro (2014) / AirPrint, from the main floor of the house (printer upstairs in a bedroom) and it printed within seconds. Then about 10 minutes ago, after about 8 hours of no printer use, from downstairs, I printed another email from my laptop. When I first pressed PRINT, it showed the printer was offline but within about 2 seconds that disappeared and I heard the printer humming along. It was perfect. So far so good, so if you have read any of my other comments/complaints about the HP printers, or read any issues with other Brother printers, you can rest easy if you purchase this one. Just take the time to download the firmware FIRST, then connect to your network and you will be good to go. I will update in a few weeks. Ease of setup is about 9/10 if you have computer knowledge, probably 7/10 if you are VERY limited. Seriously, just go slow and it will work out. One piece of advice is to go to the Brother's Mac support page and save it before the printer arrives and even download the Iprint app fro Brother on iTunes for your phone or tablet, and read through the instructions so you are ready when the printer arrives. It is not difficult. It's just not a simple plug 'n play like many Windows printers but MUCH easier and less tedious than setting up a Windows computer/laptop for the first time. It COULD a simple plug 'n play if you are ONLY using a USB to Computer connection but I would still highly recommend the latest firmware that was posted by Brother near the end of 01/16. ... show more

  • Update the firmware to fix the DEEP SLEEP issues, now a great printer!
Style: DCPL2520DW
I was getting very frustrated with this printer and it's "deep sleep" issues UNTIL I chatted with Brother support and updated the firmware. Now it works great! The issue PRIOR to updating the firmware was that after a few hours of inactivity, the printer goes to DEEP SLEEP and doesn't wake up when you send a document to print! Basically requiring a power cycle to print. I was getting VERY upset at this, as it completely negates the point of a wireless printer if you have to press the power button off/on every time you want it to print. After a quick chat with Brother support, they said that updating the firmware would fix the issue (I use a mac, OSX 10.11.3) and I'm happy to report that it fixed ALL the issues with that. The printer still deep sleeps but wakes up instantly when I send a print job and I did NOT mess with setting a static IP address or anything. Don't be discouraged by those negative reviews, this is a solid printer at a great price. It's VERY fast for multiple page jobs. Only taking off a star because it's very LARGE physical size and the hassle of updating the firmware to solve a problem that shouldn't have shipped that way or been a little easier to fix. There's no backlight. No big deal. Setting up the wireless was easy. I recommend this printer so far. Will update if anything changes. ... show more
