  • High-quality, portable, w/ LCD display, can use 110V/240V, max 32A, but no WiFi/app support.
I bought this charger for my Chevy Volt because the OEM charger that came with the car started to die on me and randomly stopped charging my car after 5 years. I have considered several options including wall-mounted stationery chargers but ultimately opted for a portable one because I regularly park my car outside and still need to charge it. I was really surprised by the small size of this charger. It is considerably smaller than the OEM Chevrolet charger, at least twice as small. So far it has worked perfectly charging my Volt. I've never heard of that brand before, but it seems to be well made. It comes with a standard 240V NEMA 14-50P plug, which is not always readily available in every household, but it's highly advisable to use it with 240V charging because it will allow you to go to L2 charging and 32 Amp rate. If you don't have a NEMA 14-50R outlet available, you can use 110V L1 charging instead, which will charge your car at a lower rate. You'll need to use an adapter to convert NEMA 14-50R to NEMA 5-15P plug, which is a standard household socket in the US, and plug it into any wall outlet. The adapter is included with this EV charger as a bonus, which is a nice addition (and saves you around $30 as you don't need to buy it!). The charging controller has an easy-to-read medium-sized display, a status light that looks like a vertical line, and two buttons. The vertical line is actually its status LEDs indicating 4 statuses - Power, Connected, Charging, and Error. I really like that it has a display that can show various info like charging rate, voltage, temperature, etc., but it is hard to read due to its small size. But LEDs on the front panel of the charger allow you to easily see its charging status from afar without needing to look at the display. The charger is exceedingly simple to use, just plug-and-play. To select the charging rate, you can simply press the "CURRENT" button and if you need to delay charging for N hours simply press the "DELAY" button several times. Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or app support in this charger, unlike other more expensive EV charger models. And I did not find any way to set up a daily charging schedule, which somewhat limits its usability as a stationary home charger and serves the best as a travel on-demand charger in my opinion. The J1772 connector feels robust and fits the Chevy Volt charging port perfectly. The cable is long, thick, and heavy duty. Overall, it feels like a product built to last for a long time. This charger works as it should. It charges at a rate of up to about 3.8kW and charges my Volt's 20 kWh battery in a matter of hours. To be precise 20 kWh / 3.8 kW (at 16A) = 5.26h, or 20 kWh / 7.6 kW (at 32A) = 2.63h. You can select between 8A, 10A, 13A, 16A, and 32A charging rates. I'm a fan of 16-amp L2 charging because it's a lot cheaper and easier to install 20 Amp wiring and receptacles than 32 Amp. Some homes can use the existing wiring from the 110V outlet in the garage and convert it to a 20-amp 240V outlet at very little cost. In any case, you should consult an electrician about this, don't try to wire 240V outlets yourself if you don't have the experience and knowledge! The charger has a number of very nice protective safety features. First of all, it has an IP65 protection rating, which means it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor charging. It is waterproof, dustproof, and claims to ensure safe charging at maximum speed against short circuits, current leakage, grounding, heat, overcharge and overcurrent. So, overall, this is a nice little charger for a decent price. I appreciate that it includes an NEMA 5-15P adapter as well for 110V L1 charging. What I like is that this 32 Amp EV charger is much more compact and lighter than other 32- or 40-amp chargers I've seen before. It comes with a comfortable case for safe storage so it's very easy to store it on a shelf or keep it in your car's trunk. And because it can use 110V, you'll be able to find outlets most of the time anywhere you travel. Attention! Make sure your wiring is good enough to survive 32 Amp charging rate or you will fry it for good. I see lots of reviews complaining that it damaged their wiring or popped a breaker. Well, don't overload your electrical system and it will be fine. Even better, consult with a professional electrician if you are not sure. Or just lower the charging rate to be safe. I really don't understand why people blame the manufacturer for their own mistakes like this. *** TL;DR *** Yes, I highly recommend this BOKMAN L1/L2 EV charger. This is a high-quality charger that can cover both home and on-the-go usage situations. Its built quality is very good, charging rate can go up to 32 Amp (7.6 kW), it can use both 110V and 240V power sources, and it's very compact and portable making it easy to store and transport. The only issue with this charger is that there is no Wi-Fi / app support, and no way to setup charging schedules, but at least you can set charging delay. It also includes a 110V NEMA 14-50R to 5-15P adapter and a carry bag for easier storage. I think this whole package is excellent value and give it 5 stars without a doubt! +++ Pros +++ 1) It charges at up to 32 Amp rate. 2) It's very portable and compact. 3) Can use both 110V and 240V power sources. 4) You can select a charging rate. 5) You can set a charging delay. 6) Build quality is quite good, feels robust. 7) Easy to use, just plug-and-play. 8) Has a display showing tons of useful info. 9) Has long, thick, heavy-duty cable. 10) IP65 waterproof, can be used outside. 11) Includes a nice carrying case. 12) Includes 110V NEMA 5-15P adapter. --- Cons --- 1) Does not support Wi-Fi or an app. 2) You can't set a charging schedule. ... show more

  • Great level 2 charger with multi adjustable current setting up to 32A max
Overall, this is fully functional and great level 2 charger with adjustable current up to a maximum of 32A. It is also great that it comes with a very nice storage bag, making it very portable. A soft and good quality of a fabric cloth is a bonus that you can wipe and clean the unit or the plug. I appreciate the NEMA 5-15 to 14-15 plug that you can use it at a location which doesn't have the 14-50 outlet for level 1 charging in emergency case. Build quality I observe is excellent, the plug, cable and the main unit appear to be in high quality and sturdy. The only complaint is that the LCD screen is way too small, and not lit up well, that you barely able to see it in outdoor environment. In indoor, you can only check the status real up close to it. The buttons of "Current" and "Delay" somehow isn't a "button", it's kind of "touch" button, I will personally prefer it to be a real button that it can give me "feedback" upon press and depress actions. Finally, their customer service is disappointed at all. I asked questions regarding some technical details but NEVER got answered. ... show more

  • Not designed for at-home charging
This cable is designed for on-the-road charging, not at-home use. At-home chargers are usually larger and beefier than this one, but make no mistake - this is a solid, top-quality charger. The cable is heavy and well-shielded, and the connections are solid. The readout is easy-to-view under any light conditions. It is an L2 charger, so you can take advantage of fast charging stations. The options are pretty standard for a portable charger - select the current and set a timer. It is easy to tell the charging status at a distance. ... show more

  • A great option for a travel charger
After the stock charger for my Mach-E failed, I needed another travel charger to stay with the vehicle. This is a great option for that. It comes in a nice case that's large enough to fit without straining to smash everything in. The back of the case is neoprene, so it's a bit "sticky", and doesn't slide around much during driving. The charger itself is nice too. The charging cable is plenty long. All of the connections to the vehicle and wall are well made and secure. THe adapter to 110V also works well, although charging on 110v is so comically slow (over 2 days to charge the machE), I'm not sure why anyone would ever do it. Still, it's nice to have 110v option if that's the best you can do. The display on the front of the charger is small, but works well and gives useful info like charging time and charge rate (which is adjustable). My only minor complaint is the charger seems to generate a reasonable amount of heat on the back side of it, and at the base of the charging cable where it connects to the charger. This was noticed when charging at 32A/240v. It's not dangerous and seemed similar to the stock Ford charger, but I do worry about longevity. My larger 40a charger generates no heat at all, so it was surprising from this one. Overall, the price is a bargain for this. It would work well as a primary charger, but I think it really shines as a secondary charger to keep with your vehicle for weekend trips. ... show more
