  • Great base for giant umbrella
Color: Black Faux Wicker
We bought this with our 13ft umbrella and it works amazing. Never even looked like it was gonna blow over. My kids even pulled and moved the rods around and it’s still very sturdy.

  • Good Base + Alternate Assembly Hack
Color: Black
I think the rest of the reviews have covered the quality and sturdiness of the item. As you can probably tell from the photos, the base is very big. It takes up a lot of space on my patio, but it definitely works. Size-wise, it fits perfectly with my Bluu Cantilever umbrella stand. On to the hack.... Someone was kind enough to post a review on how to fill the base with sand quickly called "Read this Assemby Cheat", to simplify what otherwise could be a very tedious process. Using their terrific idea as a baseline, I modified it somewhat and it worked very well for me. I took a 2-liter bottle as recommended and cut it in half to work as funnel into the base. With a little bit of effort, the spout of the 2-liter bottle fits perfectly into the filling base. However, instead of using the sand you find outdoors in your local big box retailer, which gets moist over time, get the sandbox sand they sell indoors (usually in the /concrete masonry section of the store). It is very fine sand (much finer than paver sand) and is completely dry. Four 50 lb bags should do it and it was less than $20 total for me. With the finer, dry sand, you can funnel it directly into each base without any water or clogging. This obviates the need for two funnels or using a hose to keep the sand flowing into the base. Just pour the sand directly into the funnel and it goes right into the base. When you've filled up each compartment with sand, you can then add water to finish it up. Since I did the filling by myself and the sand bags are unwieldy to start due to weight, when opening each new sand bag, I poured the first batch of sand into a bucket with a pouring spout. I then simply poured the sand from the bucket into the 2-liter bottle funnel. Once the sandbag was a little lighter, I could pour the sand directly from the bag into funnel. It worked great for me, so I hope it does for others as well. ... show more

  • Good weight but hard to fill
Color: Black
These weights work well and do the job to make the cantilever umbrella stable. But they can be difficult to fill with sand so only 4 stars. Make sure you get sand that is BONE DRY! Preferably in a paper, not plastic bag (that retains moisture). This is essential to get the sand to pour through a funnel into the relatively small opening of these weights/containers. At first, I made the mistake to purchase 50 lb bags of play sand from Ace Hardware, contained in plastic bags. This sand was damp and sticky and would absolutely not pour. So I had to return them, but of course the first one was open so could not take it back. Stuck with a 50 lb bag of sand I have no use for. Next went to a local stone/soil supply place where I could sample the sand before purchase. The sample all-purpose sand flowed nicely, so bought some bags of it. But these were plastic bags that retain moisture and the sand in them was moist! So it would not flow either. Finally got some Sakrete all-purpose sand in paper sacks from another local hardware supply. This stuff was indeed nice and dry and poured well through a funnel into the opening of the weight. ... show more

  • How to Fill with Sand
Color: Black Faux Wicker
These work well and look nice. It did, however, take a while (and a lot of trial and error) to fill them with sand. If you choose to go with sand, I recommend transferring the sand from the large bag to a smaller receptacle first before trying to put it in the weight container. We used a kid's beach bucket and a funnel which worked pretty well. ... show more

  • Just okay
Color: Black
Its a nice idea but in practice not that great. They are make of the in plastic. One ended up cracking and all the water leaked out and can no longer hold in one direction. Filling with sand is awkard process cause of how the spout is shapped. Still works just wish it was a little more sturdy.

  • Plenty of stability, thinner profile than other bases
Color: Black Faux Wicker
Overall pleased with this product. We paired this base system with a 10' mastercanopy cantilever umbrella purchased on Amazon. The base is attractive and matches some of our other patio furniture with a thatch design. Once assembled the base is about 40" square, so keep that in mind when picking a location. With the completed set loaded with your weighting materials it's not going to be easy to move. I chose to fill each of the "plates" with play sand. I bought four 50 lb bags of sand from my local big box hardware store for around $30. I chose sand over water because it weighs more and the recomendations I found online for what a good weight would be for this style of umbrella ranged from 175 to 200 lbs. I had about 10 lbs of sand left after filling, so each plate has about 47 lbs of sand in it. For filling I had some old funnels and I propped these up diagonally with the spout directly vertical. It took me about an hour to fill all four plates and I agitated the plate towards the end of filling to make sure they were filled to the top. Even filled with sand the material of construction is solid and does not deform when loaded, which I saw as a positive. I had looked at other designs, but they were much larger than this system for the same weight. The lower profile of these allows easy operation of the rotation function on my umbrella. Once assembled, this system provides a very sturdy and solid base, even when the wind is blowing at a good clip. Overall, solid construction, plenty of weight when filled with sand and provides a solid base in a stiff wind. Should you choose sand, you'll need to factor in this cost in your overall purchase price. ... show more
