front lower control arms of the BMW E39 M5 are beefy, a normal ball joint separator would not touch them (nor did it fit) used this hefty 27mm adapter to get the job done. Pro tip - wrap the arm at the ball joint and the separator in a flat trying rope. this way when the thing pops out, nothing will be flying in unexpected directions.

Save yourself some time and frustration. I tried all the other $20-$50 separators. They don't fit well and I wasted 3 days trying to remove the control arm. The 22mm fits perfectly and popped out the control arm in 5 minutes. I spent 3 days trying the cheap ones that don't fit properly.
