One could deep fry in a sauce pan with a wire insert basket (I have one of those) or one could use a fryer specific implement. The advantage of this deep fryer is that the temperature is automatically controlled thus providing for a smoother operation and better outcomes. I've prepared onion rings, shrimp and potatoes. It is making me seem as though I am a "good" cook. Chicken and eggplant are the next two adventures. Beyond having a remarkable coating/batter for the item one fries the other is using a sufficient amount of lard/tallow/bacon fat. Do not allow the volume to drop to "Minimum" - don't be cheap with the stuff one fries in. I avoid seed oils. Fill it up toward "Maximum" and fry right. I believe this tool works well when preparing meals for 4 or fewer. It is not for cooking for crowds. The dishwasher cleaning the basket has been super. Thus far it has shown quality and ease of use. I can and do recommend you to consider it for a low cost high value kitchen implement for small quantities.

It works as advertised. The basket does not lay flat on the heating element, so slightly tilted. No big deal. However, if you add oil to the max level, it does not even cover the top of a wing section, so I added enough to do so with no issues. A filter on the lid would have been nice. All in all the price is right for what you get. Wings and fries came out perfect.

This is so far a good fryer but has two flaws you should be aware of: 1) the ready light and the lower light are reversed. When plugged in and anchored properly, the ready light comes on. When the desired temp is reached, the power turns on. This seems like someone messed up at the factory as I got 2 of these units due to this defect and found both have this issue. 2) many videos show the device doesn’t turn on when plugged in and I also thought I had a defective unit until I got a replacement unit with the same problem. The issue is that the instructions doesn’t tell you there’s a mounting backet that you have to slide the grille onto. It cannot sit without it because there’s a button that has to be pressed for the unit to come on. Without mounting on the correct side, the unit will always be off even if plugged in. I expect there might be a product recall on the light soon. That’s a major oversight and can cause people to believe it’s not on.

I really wanted to be pleased with it. It was to replace a old Presto fry daddy that still works well but it's showing its age with outer stains on the sides. This new fryer featured a basket, larger capacity, timer and temperature control. Fryer came in packed well, no damage and went together just fine. It looked good just like the pictures advertised. Our first frying with it was a battered shrimp and scallops , fried battered cauliflower tempura style. some hand cut russet potatoes fries. followed all cooking times and temperatures instructions for different foods. None of the temperature markings on dial were correct in reality using a digital temp food probe. The hottest the cooking oil got was 321F. Food took long to cook and greasy and the fries were a "bust" that ended up in garbage.

The Amazon Basics 3.2-Qt Deep Fryer has been a great addition to my kitchen. It fries evenly and heats up fast, but what really impressed me is how easy it is to clean. The parts come apart easily which makes cleaning very easy The oil container is simple to empty dissasemble and wash. For anyone who hates taking apart complicated fryers as much as I do, this fryer is a win. Great performance, good size, and super low maintenance—definitely worth it!

This air fryer works well once you get it heated up. The problem is getting it heated up. It takes a really long time. The temperature gauge doesn’t work well. If you try to turn up the temp quickly, it shuts off.

This deep fryer is not it! I was super excited to try out my new deep fryer for Sunday Night Football, however I missed most of the game fussing with this unit. The temperature continued to drop drastically for no apparent reason. I was mindful to not over crowd the basket, however that did not help. Super disappointed and frustrated. I’ll stick to the Dutch oven for frying.
