  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but quite difficult to install
Size: 10 x 8 Feet Color: Red/White
I had to put together the Aleko 10'x8' motorized awning by myself. I had no one to help me with it. I didn't install it on the wall, I asked a neighbor to help me. It would have been absolutely impossible for me to install it by myself. I'm a female, 5'4" tall, and not very strong, but I'm great with my hands and also pretty good at figuring out in a creative way how to build and fix stuff. First of all, the paper instructions are just insane, they make absolutely no sense at all. They are very difficult to read and the drawings are incredibly confusing. The only way to really put together this is by going to the Aleko installation video on Youtube. There are also parts of the video that are impossible to understand, and unless you have good intuition and have been following their video instruction to the T, you won't be able to decipher what is the front of the awning or the back. So be really careful listening and watching the video as well. The most difficult part of assembling is putting the fabric liners. It's just not a job for one person alone. So unless is absolutely necessary like in my case, don't do this alone. Is too heavy, even the smaller of their sizes. Leaving the undecipherable paper instructions aside and how heavy it is, the video is pretty straightforward. If you follow it without distractions and have some help work with the fabric, you could put it together in about 2 hours. In essence, it's really not difficult. The motor comes already set up, so you just need to slide it into the tube, so it's quite easy. Now, if you thought the instructions for the awning were insane, the remote and open/close limits are just completely lost in translation. Honestly, don't try to read any of the paper instructions. They look written like an onion, and not a thinking human being. Just watch the Aleko video. Do a search on Google for it. After 2 days of struggle, my awning just looks spectacular, so at the end of the story, I'm quite satisfied with it :) ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars very very difficult to assemble
Size: 20 x 10 Feet Color: Green/White
Well we finally got the 20' awning installed. it took 4 X 8+ hour days to assemble it. The directions are almost worthless. the only good part of the directions is the parts drawing. my awning came in 7' sections. most of the assembly holes need to be drilled out because the tolerances are too close. threading the flimsy strips through the awning and valence fabric was neerly impossible until i made a jig for it. It took a couple tries to install the motor and get everything lined up. it is very heavy. i had rigged some pullies and rope to lift it up to the hangers but two of us could not lift it. i had to use my truck to pull the ropes. the directions posted on youtube are of some help but they are from a 2019 model and do not make a lot of sense for this model. ... show more

Poor poor instructions, definitely takes at least two people to install. Havenโ€™t had enough time to see how it will operate but initially has been fine.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Not easy to put together
Size: 16 x 10 Feet Color: Brown
So my husband and I put this together it is definitely a two-person job and the instructions are less than adequate to get the job done. Thank goodness he's very mechanically inclined and I'm rather handy otherwise this would have been a complete disaster. There are several Key Parts in the instructions that they tend to gloss over and we've never been able to quite get the tension correct on the canopy. There tends to always be a little bit of a wrinkle and it tends to pull to one side I believe that has something to do with when we first rolled it in but I wouldn't know because the directions never indicated a specific way or something to avoid. Once we completed it and got it and place (that in itself was quite the feat it's rather heavy and you can't mount it until it's completely put together) it looked fantastic and does what it's supposed to I believe these are professional kits not for the faint of heart. I think these would be absolutely wonderful and would have given five stars if the directions were more comprehensive and had useful troubleshooting. ... show more

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars I should have listened to the other reviewers...
Size: 20 x 10 Feet Color: Blue
Aleko was very responsive--when I didn't receive the hardware for installing the awning, they shipped out a new set. That was great. But, the bottom line is the directions on setting up the awning were absolutely atrocious. Do not believe the review from the person who said he set it up with his 12 year old niece ( actually, maybe he did, but he wasn't dealing with a 20 foot awning). My awning weighed 90 pounds. It took three grown men to raise it onto the house. Once we had it up and started the motor, the awning came out and went straight down ( to the ground). That happened because there was no "up" indicated on the extension bars. That required taking the whole thing down off the house and changing the direction of the extension bars. Putting it back up ( with three men), it opened correctly, but it was obvious the motor was struggling and not able to retract completely. That was because there was no explicit direction on how to wind the awning into the roller. Fortunately, I was able to figure it all out and replaced the motor and now the awning extends out correctly. But it took way more time than I anticipated and way more effort than I anticipated. Bottom line, I would never buy this product again. There were no directions on installing the awning on the house. I had to go online and see some other directions by Alekoa that told how to do it. And it felt like the whole process was like that. Updated: the new motor broke just like the first one did--and the manual retraction requires the "teeth" of the motor to turn the roller. Since the teeth on the motor broke off (how did they expect a 1/4 plastic piece to withstand the pressure from a 35 pound awning??!!), the awning cannot be retracted. I am taking the whole piece of shit down and sending it back to Aleko). My rating has now fallen to 1 star. If I could give it zero stars, I would. ... show more
