My wife and I live in the blissful heat and sun of the Palm Springs, California Coachella valley. We've been shopping for an awning to shade our front window. After much research, we decided on the ALEKO. Our window is 8 feet wide, but I chose the 13 footer to provide maximum shade. I was a bit apprehensive about some of the reviews focused on how difficult is was to put together - but, I'm both brave and a DIY'er and couldn't resist the price. It was also the only one in grey to match our house. I'll start with the end in mind. This awning is absolutely high quality, and it was NOT difficult to put together. The holes lined up perfectly, there was extra hardware included and it works like a charm. Here are a few helpful tips and hints: *No idea why people complain about the instructions? The instructions actually 'over explain' most of the steps and despite some tiny illustrations, it's pretty simple to figure out. *The ONLY step in the instructions that were a tiny bit unclear are towards the end where you have to attach the front metal strip (that connects the awning to the front scalloped piece) to the arms that retract - the funky pieces that slide into the channel on the front piece isn't crystal clear - although if you take a moment, you'll figure it out. *When you mount the brackets to your eve/wall (whatever you are attaching the awning to) - ensure you are attaching them very firmly, and ensure they are 'dead' level and in line. I used a $20 laser level and it worked like a charm. *Fully assembled, this thing is heavy - if you have 2 strong people, you'll be a-ok. *My wife and I chose to attach it ourselves, and I removed the fabric and roller so we could lift just the main frame on to the brackets. Once the frame was attached to our eve, it was simple to lift the roller and complete the job. *You'll need a large/clean area to put this together. *Study the instructions before you start. *We chose not to use the scalloped front piece - just didn't go well with our mid-century mod home. All in all, the entire project - from unboxing to completion - took about 4.5 hours. Don't be scared - you can do this! We'd purchase again, and recommend it.

I bought this Aleko awning a few months ago. I have never bought a bigger piece of garbage in my life. Right from the start I knew I was in trouble. The instructions are written in poor English and are vague at best. No specifics on how to do anything. Luckily I do have some mechanical abilities and was able to get the awning installed. First of all, the awning does not extend to a 12x10 coverage area. 10' 6" wide and only extends about 8 feet out. The drop angle is very severe. The instructions state 30 centimeters, which is about a foot, but in reality it was over 3 feet. After days of messing with it, I finally got it to where I could at least walk under it. After a week of being installed, I was closing it and the retracting arm became bound and snapped. I called customer service and that was pretty much a waste of time. I ordered a new retracting arm, the exact one that was in the instruction manual and the one customer service said to order. $75 plus $40 shipping later the replacement arm arrived. Each piece of the arm was 11" too short, so now the awning would only open to a maximum of 6 feet. Once again, customer service was completely ineffective. Words of advice. DO NOT buy this or anything else from Aleko. The product is garbage, the replacement parts are garbage and customer service is garbage. You get what you pay for and I found out the hard way. It is now sitting in my garage waiting for the trash collector to come pick it up. I can't believe Amazon even allows this vendor to do business with them. If I could give this product a zero I would have.

First let me say that I do not at all regret buying this awning even after reading about the bad assembly instructions because I am a handy person. Considering what is on the market out there for more expensive and better advertised units this is a great substitute. If you're going to purchase this you must have some skills as in being able to put together Ikea furniture with no help. The close-up picture of the center support must be looked at carefully because on the instructions it does not show it at all for proper install position. I had to diassasemble the awning more than once till I got it right. The other picture, a close up picture of the front part with the short canvas part in front must be in this position when you put it together. I am a very capable handyman and have put many things together in my lifetime so that being said this took me 6 hours to do in total. and that is looking at a bunch of different YouTube video assembly instructions to understand the entire assembly. Aleko listen to me!!! all you need to do is include some awesome great instructions with close-up color pictures and you guys will absolutely take over the industry with your product and Priceline. All in all, people needing to make an economic decision for your home it is a great purchase! But you just may need somebody who is Handy to help you install and put it up. Observation note: it does bounce up and down a little bit even with light breezes. As for my self I am buying the support poles available, for those days that are slightly breezy so I won't have to have to worry that the awning will break from the constant movement up and down.

The item arrived very quickly and is substantial! It's the perfect color.. not "yellow" as indicated by other reviews. I am having it installed today, so I will update on the quality, how it works, the motor, etc. once it's done. The quality is great. I was a bit disappointed with some of the scratches in the finish and there was an end-cap missing on one end, but it's not worth complaining about at this point. At this point, I would say purchase it based upon the pricing I have found for similar products. This is a major deal! OK.. update on the purchase. The awning has not turned out to be what I had hoped. The motor i purchased doesn't work consistently. Going to have to get that addressed. Additionally, the awning - when fully extended - "droops". The arms are not as strong as one would hope. I had a service person look at it and adjust the brackets, which helped a little. Regardless, if you purchase this awning, make sure you attaching at least 4 feet above the baseline of the awning. Otherwise, you'll have a nice "bat cave" and have to bend over when under the farthest end of the awning. Unfortunately, I don't have the real estate above my slider doors, so it is going to have to stay. I don't anticipate fully extending it in any case. A shame really, as the quality of the awning itself is nice. Just not all I had hoped it would be. Moving from 4 to 3 stars. I'll keep it, but will probably replace at some point.

The French doors are on the south side of our house. The awning eliminated much of the heat from the sun that came through the glass. Once the awning is on the wall, there are a few final adjustments that have to be made. The instructions are pretty vague at this point, so there is a bit of trial and error. Once the adjustments are made and tightened down, it works flawlessly. And... In this case, the awning color blends into house's siding.

The item arrived very quickly and in good order. I'm in the process of installing it on a stucco wall to give shade to the A/C unit. If you are not a careful reader you may have some problems with the printed instructions. The information is there it is just obscured by the language. I went to the vendors website to check things out. While there I noticed they have a motorized drive and a sun/wind detector for a very reasonable price. I ordered one of each. They arrived very quickly but, unfortunately, did not include the instructions for the motor install so I called them. A very nice fellow, whose name I did not get, emailed the instructions to me within the hour. Excellent service. Wish I could say the same about the content of the email. The instructions are not at all clear and I am still trying to decipher them. I'll figure it out. The products themselves are of good quality and the price is very good.

Ordered this awning to go over our back deck. This is the third awning I've purchased/installed from various places over the years, and it is by far the lowest quality. Color was supposed to be beige, and that was clearly indicated on the shipping box, but turned out that their version of beige was more like pale yellow, not close to the image online. Construction is flimsy, and fabric is very light weight. Description mentioned it came with support poles, which it does not (Quote: "It features support arms that can be positioned vertically on the deck or patio floor, or angled back against your house wall. It has floor and wall mounting plates"...). Instructions were completely inaccurate and poorly written, almost like they were written for another product (kept referring to things that did not exist, such as a built-in level), and then were badly translated into English. Drop height is stated to be 30-50cm, but after installing it, I found it to be closer to 76cm after adjusting it to its max, which meant I had to remove it and reinstall it a foot higher, forcing me to patch a bunch of holes in my wall. The awning is installed, so there it will stay, but I do not hold any optimism on how long it will last. I suspect that a light rainfall would be sufficient to break it. Do yourselves a favor, spend a little more money and get something that is higher quality.
