  • Appears fine for a basic low cost yard Aerator
Style: Spike Aerator
We retired and now have a small yard. Previously had large acreage and used a Aerway finetine aerator...they cost thousands and work very well. But in no way can justify such equipment now. But I do believe in trying to aerate your turf to assist in getting water and nutrients deeper into soil. This just penetrates the soil...the tines are like cutters and just penetrate...they do not move or rotate the soil. That's ok...it is a basic unit. Stack about a hundred pounds on it, wait for a rain or water your lawn and go out the next day and run it over your place. Keep it up and your lawn will look better. Can't say how long it will last, but it is built ok for a small place (for which it is intended). One person can assemble, but two would make it a bit easier. ... show more

  • High Quality but a Challenge to Assemble
Style: Spike Aerator
The product itself is well designed, sturdy and works well. A potential 5 star product if it was partially assembled or had better instructions. Plan on at least 1 hour to assemble. I also had to redo 2 items I assembled wrong. No tool guide and a symbol used in diagram wan’t explained until 2 pages later. Best tools are open end wrenches and an impact driver with sockets. ... show more

  • Able to pull it EASILY with my small 30" Craftsman riding mower.
Style: Spike Aerator
I have the Craftsman rer1000 30" riding mower. It is about 7 years old and was an early version with the MTD 420cc engine. It is able to pull this thing without a problem! That is running just off of idle too. Since my yard has already turned into a brick I just waited till the day after a rain... threw on four 4x8x12 concrete bricks on top and towed it. Good/full penetration in most spots. I had to use actual ratchet straps to hold the pile of bricks down. Those things were shimmying their way out on the first lap due to all of the rocks/roots/limbs/and erosion ruts. I just got a new home on an acre. The yard is a complete mud hole/compact clay. Soo... all of the contraction debris, and roots were occasionally fowling it up and I had to keep an eye on it. It was bouncing over the rocks and such no problem. No spikes bent. I just had to stop a half dozen times to pull out debris that was spiked and being dragged. I added grease to certain points during assembly. Can't hurt to longevity. I may modify the lever for the wheel fold though. It falls forward via gravity to lift the wheels and works well enough. Just got large chunks of wood that caught it and forced it past the holding/catch bold. I will likely put in a slightly longer bolt. Seems HD enough to last many years... and possibly decades for home use. Once I get the debris out of the yard and some grass growing. lol Those holes should allow water, air, fertilizer, and seed to fall in and grow. Later on it should help with the water, air, and fertilizer once I start building thatch/compost/soil. I like it! ... show more

  • Incorrect Instructions... and Agri Fab knows it
Style: Spike Aerator
Product assembly instructions have several errors... of which some personnel in their product support department are aware... others are not. First, the instructions indicate parts A thru N are shown full size... however part E is shown the proper diameter but the actual; part is 1 1/2 in rather than the 2 1/2 shown... since when you first assemble the rotating tines there is no compression on the springs it appears the actual part needs to as long as the drawing. Called product support and they apologized for defective parts and sent replacements which I received a few days later... of course, these were the same length. Called back, got a different person and she explained the drawing was wrong the slack would be taken up in a later step. Part M although shown correctly will be confusing to a person not used to reading prints... the view looks like a hex nut although just a washer... the two lines are dotted... would be better to show like part L. the views imply an X or Y marked on the hardware.... however, ends x and y on part 8 must be determined by bolt pattern and on part 9, Y is the one with the emblem. View 4a and 4b are also poorly illustrated since the tine orientation changes in each view. Views 8 and 9 are inconsistent with view 8showing 5 tines each to the left and right of part 7 whereas view 9 is correct with 6 tines to the left and 4 to the right. Finally, the installation of the tow bar is made difficult since the hole patterns on the tow bar do not match the illustration... and the fasteners must be installed in different size center holes. My point is a few sentences of explanation and correct illustrations would make this so much simpler. It indicates the manufacturer does not care how much extra time it takes the customer to assemble just as long as they save a few $ on printing proper manuals... in my business, we call that lack of customer focus a cardinal mistake. I have not yet used the device... the massive use of plastic in the rotating assembly scream upcoming issues... hopefully I am wrong ... show more

  • Good product, could be a little better!
Style: Spike Aerator
The good is that this product will pay for itself after a few uses. It also has some nice features including wheels to lift the blades off the ground and a tongue for attaching it to your riding mower that pivots out of the way when not in use so that it takes less space in your garage. That said, there are two things that could use a little improvement. First, there are no washers provided, and while not essential, because of the fairly loose tolerances in the parts (which helps asssembly), they would make things a little more solid. Next, the instructions are OK for the first part of the assembly, but pretty bad when it comes to installing the wheel pivot handle, lever, and its stop. The pictures do not do a good job of showing the location of the two relative to the tongue side of the aerator. After assembling it as it appeared to go together in the manual, I found that it didn't work as it should and by referring to the assembled unit on the front page of the manual, I was able to relocate the parts and make the wheel lowering feature work correctly. This doesn't have a very heavy duty paint job on it, so I'd suggest cleaning it after use and storing it out of the weather too. ... show more
