Used this on a heavily thatched lawn and had very good results even without weight. The tines are well built and effective, and the frame is adequate. I'd prefer some vertical adjustment in the hitch, but you can adjust the frame and wheels to get the tines level with a bit of fiddling. Assembly looks easy, but it is not. I'm fairly experienced and it took me over 2 hours and a good amount of frustration. The drawings are large and mostly clear, but are sorely in need some text and warnings. Parts can go on multiple ways but are not functional unless installed in the exact orientation pictured. The drawings are very confusing because the unit is sometimes pictured wheels up, sometimes wheels down. Sometimes pointing away, sometimes pointed towards you. I had to study the diagrams closely, flip them around for orientation, and still had to partially disassemble and reassemble to get parts to line up correctly. Argh! Also, you must squeeze the tines at the wide part of the V to insert them into the brackets. Easy enough, but note it in the dang instructions! I almost knocked off a star for assembly frustration. However, assembly is a onetime hassle, and then the device works well. Much more convenient and cost effective than a power rake. I would buy this again.

Good width and strong springs. Works well for thatch and breaking ground crust for seeding. Transport raise lower lever a little dicky, but not a problem operating. Works best with additional cement blocks.

The only reason for 4 stars; the assembly for the handle was a little difficult, and the instructions could be more clear, but we finally got it assembled with a little tweak from the instruction. We ordered the 40" and it is the perfect size to pull behind our lawn tractor, and it was so easy to attach. It worked great, couldn't believe all the dead grass it pulled up, I should have taken a picture. We went over our lawn several times and then used our hand mower to bag all the dead grass. We think dethatching made the lawn look so much better, there wasn't as much dead grass mixed in with the good healthy grass. We plan on doing it again this fall and re-seeding. If you don't want to pay someone to do the dethatching of your lawn this is a nice little de-thatcher for you to do yourself. We figured when we go to store it this winter we will remove the handle and it should stand up on the wheels against the shed wall, shouldn't take up too much room. It was a great purchase and we would recommend it.

Do not attemp assembly with the wrenches provided. Use better quality wrenches and sockets to ensure that the assembly is quick without minor cuts and bruises. Be sure to align all the pieces as shown in the instructions to avoid reworking. Once the product was assemble it worked as advertised even without adding additional weight. We did add about 100 lbs to get the depth that we desired to help remove moss. Complete a 2 acre lawn in less than a hour.

I’m not an absolute dolt - I’ve assembled things and built things and am decently handy but the instructions for this are not functional. They SEEM ok but following the pictures will not leave you with a functioning piece of equipment. With fiddling however it will work correctly. The design is asymmetrical in ways but you need your axle centered for things to line up right. I don’t recall the exact fix now but stare at it awhile and you’ll get it eventually. Built per instructions the axle was off center by a couple inches. It’s more frustrating than it needs to be and due to this aspect alone I might purchase the more common brand, because if you need help it will be easier to find on YouTube etc. I don’t think this is any sturdier than the other brands, which is why I leaned toward this one. It’s fine though in the end and will do a good dethatch and I finally got the disengage mechanism to work right once I fixed the axle alignment. Allow a few hours to build and test it before use.

First, this unit is solid. The quality of parts is evident when putting it together. The parts are made from thick metal and the tires are solid rubber. The packing was very protective. No parts or pieces missing. It includes a pair of work gloves and heavy metal wrenches. Using a ratchet speeds up assembly. The assembly instructions were good but there is one part that was not clear and that was with the wheel assembly bar. Be sure to have this facing in the right direction (see picture) or you will not be able to attach the lifting handle because the wheel bar will not rotate far enough. I did try it out for a few swipes on my grass without weights and it worked good. Next time I'll use a few paving stones to control the slight bouncing and get deeper penetration. For the price, this is a great buy!
