  • Great For Larger Lawn Areas
We have about 20,000 SQFT of lawn that needs to be renovated and I looked into renting or buying a lawn dethatcher and after checking the prices I began to search online and I found this device for our riding lawn mower. Assembly was very easy with the help of and impact driver and socket set. It took me about an hour to assemble the unit. I was not missing any bolts and everything assembled very easy. Make sure you read the directions as when you first hook this unit up to your lawn mower it will not be adjusted correctly. You have to loosen the main bracket bolts on the back and then it will sit level with the ground. I attached to cinder blocks for weight and went to town on my middle lawn which is 6,000 SQFT. Boy was I happy to have this contraption. It pulled up a ton of thatch and moss in a minimal amount of time. For the price this is a great unit and if you store it inside it should last many seasons. I am super happy with this Agri Fab Dethatcher. ... show more

  • Beats using a rake.
Easy enough to assemble. The handle/mechanism to raise and lower the tines seems like it could have been designed/engineered a bit better than what it is, seems a little cheap. Adding weight is a must so it does not just bounce around, just don't add too much or you will just rip out your grass (trial and error). ... show more

  • great little dethatcher for a lawn tractor
This smallish, lighter weight dethatcher is perfect for wetter conditions when heavier equipment would damage the turf. With some weight on the top (I use around 40-60 lbs I think), it's quite effective at lifting dead grass and thatch. After you lift it all up, you'll want to have some way of collecting it all - I really like a tow behind, wheel driven lawn sweeper for that part. With that duo, dethatched about half an acre or so, and picked up several cubic yards (unpacked) of dead grass, in a few hours. ... show more

  • Get the concrete blocks to weigh it down
Works fine, strongly recommend getting the concrete blocks to weigh it down. Lay out the nuts and bolds before assembling, makes it easier to find the right size bolt

  • Works, but could be better.
The tunes work just fine, but the way it’s fabricated could be improved. The tray that holds blocks/weights has no ends on it, so if you’re dethatching grounds that’s rough, or has roots or rocks you either need to strap down your weights or expect to get up off the mower regularly to pick them up. The handle’s locking mechanism to hold the wheels in the down position also isn’t great. Compared to the aerator I purchased (different manufacturer) the locking mechanisms are night and day different. ... show more

  • Good Lawn dethatcher, assembly is moderately ok, raise-lower arm is not as sturdy as I would like
Overall the dethatcher is a pretty good piece of lawn equipment. The weak point seemed to be the raise/lower arm used to engage or disengage the dethatcher. I had to install a second bolt on the arm to keep it stable and prevent the arm from bending during use. I found that after a small to moderate amount of use that the raise/lower arm would work its way loose putting excess pressure on the arm and bending a bit. I placed a second bolt on the bracket on the lower end of the arm and this seemed to stabilize it. No drilling or modification to the dethatcher was needed to do this. The dethatcher had an extra carriage bolt that I was able to use for this. Sadly, two other bolts where missing requiring a trip to a hardware store and pretty good amount of extra time in getting the dethatcher set up. The retail cost of the bolts was 40 cents, but it cost far more in time and inconvenience. Assembly of the tines has to be done carefully and can seem more difficult than it is. Once you get how to do this the tines are not too hard to assemble. The manual and diagrams could be better. Larger diagrams and more detail insets would be helpful. ... show more

  • Easy
Economical and assembly was pretty easy if you have a socket adapter and an impact gun.

  • Flimsiest thing I've ever purchased
Lightweight? Sure. Easy to assemble? Yeah. Wasn't too bad to assemble. Sturdy? absolutely not. The "lever" arm is thin and flimsy. Even without any weight on the tray it would bend and twist when trying to raise or lower the thing. Add just a little weight and it might as well be a paper clip. Then, heaven help you if you have a bad lower back. Contorting yourself to reach around and deal with the flimsy lever is sure to trigger pains up and down the spine and you still won't be able to lever the thing. The ONLY way this could work is if you had someone following along to raise and lower the thing for you. That, or you hop off the mower and do it yourself. Hope you like restarting the mower. Or, just save your money and headaches and buy a Sun Joe. It's about the same price and will yield much better results. This is a shame because I have a trailer from this company and it works like a champ. Disappointed. ... show more
