  • Great book!
Format: Paperback
Very good book! I recently picked up guitar back up 18 years later. I didn’t really know anything I just doodled. But now I’m a stay at home dad and have a lot of time. I’ve been playing 3 weeks and I’m better than I was before. Before I got this book I did a ton of reading and learned a lot. But this book shows you a lot easier way of connecting scales and picturing patterns. I spend probably 5-6 hrs a day reading and practicing over and over until i memorize all patterns. Along with doing that I alternate pick so I don’t get stuck on down picking. If you put your mind to it and really want to learn you’ll become a good player fast. Personally I’m not into playing songs yet because I want to know what I’m playing. But once you do learn these patterns you will see how legends create their solos. Just put your mind to it and make time for it, it’s the only way you’ll become a great player. This is an awesome book and tool to help you become what you want! And if you only want to play metal don’t disregard learning blues and jazz styles because a lot of metal players uses those style to create their own! Good luck on your guitar journey and I promise if you want to learn you’ll become will learn! Buy this book it will do nothing but help you! ... show more

  • WOW, just WOW!!!
Format: Paperback
I’ve been playing guitar on and off for over 40 years. I only took a handful of lessons and then just learned on my own. I grabbed Charles book and I truly learned more in the first two chapters then I’ve ever known before. The fret board FINALLY was a place I wasn’t scared of. At the end of each chapter are ways to practice what you learned in that days lesson. After only the second chapter I was playing a solo for the first time EVER! Yes, I know what you are thinking. 40 years of playing and never played a solo? It’s 100% true. I could learn some solos from some songs but never really understood them. It’s starting to click for me now. I spent 2 hours in my basement with the second lesson and was creating my first ever solo. I was literally crying while playing because of the joy I was feeling. Charlie lays these lessons out in such a way that is so easy to comprehend I can’t thank him enough for what this book given me. GRAB THIS BOOK!!! You won’t be sorry! ... show more

  • This is THE book, look no further!
Format: Kindle
I have been playing guitar for over 40 years now and this GPR System by Charlie Wallace is hands down the best book I've come across. Charlie has done an incredible job of breaking down the fretboard and making it so easy to see the instrument in a completely sensible light. About halfyway through the book, it clicked, the light bulb moment! Everything makes soooo much more sense now. So many, 'A ha!' moments! I am indebted to you for life, thank you Charlie Wallace! ... show more

  • You need to learn GPR method
Format: Paperback
Brilliant Method and Technique! Charlie's approach has taken my guitar playing to a whole new level. The patterns are incredibly flexible—you can shape them into whatever your imagination allows. The mental exercises are a game changer and truly essential for improving technique. Thank you, Charlie, for this amazing method! ... show more

  • Scales demystified
Format: Kindle
Charlie’s book builds up your understanding of scales ands the fretboard layer by layer on top of a simple foundation. The fretboard, scales and modes made little sense until this book. Within weeks, I went from a smattering of knowledge to improvising in different keys and modes. If I’d had this book when I first started learning guitar, I’d be so far shred off where I am now. ... show more

  • Book starts out great but.....
Format: Paperback
Starts out fine, but the G pattern is shown on the wrong frets. The book shows to play it starting on the 5th fret. It should start on the 12th fret or the 5th position. It is a good book with good information but I just started it and found this mistake. In the first chapter. Glad I know how to read scales and have learned enough to find this. If you are just starting out and teaching yourself be careful with what you are learning. The book on left, actual lesson from my instructor on right. It does clear up things as you go. For me I am learning faster not just the patterns, but I am learning the natural notes along the way. I would give 4 and 3/4 stars . Nothing is perfect but this as close as it gets for where I am at. Went from beginner to intermediate with this book in a week. Having tried everything else. You have to practice, practice, practice with any instrument. This book is no nonsense if you have the self discipline to be a guitar player. ... show more

  • Transformed my Guitar Playing
Format: Paperback
I bought both this book and the 10 Week Master The Fretboard Workshop 2.0 videos, and highly recommend both. I'm halfway through the book and videos, and they have already transformed my guitar playing. I've been playing guitar for over 25 years. I can play well. I learn songs by ear or from tablature. I learn solos note for note. I reproduce the tones and expression from the solos and music. But I never feel like I really play the guitar and express myself on it. It's mostly been based on someone else's music. When I try to create something myself I usually don't know where to take it outside of short riffs I create. And forget trying to create a solo over music a band is playing that I'm hearing for the first time. No way. But this system has already gotten me there, and I'm only at the halfway point. It's phenomenal. I've bought many books. Heck, I even know how to read sheet music from being in band back in school. I've taken college level music theory courses online. But it has never come together in terms of being able to feel like I can really navigate the fretboard. Charlie is a fantastic teacher, and this method actually works very well. It may look overly simple and even seem silly in the beginning, but this indeed gives the tools needed to understand the layout of the fretboard and then be creative with it. In addition to the book, I can't recommend the videos highly enough. I know they are expensive. But I've taken music lessons in the past, and after paying for a few music lessons you would have already paid for the cost of the videos. Buy the video set. Charlie's teaching methods are perfect, he carries himself very well, and the visuals are extremely well done. I hope he and the team make more content, and I look forward to finishing up the back half of the course. ... show more
