Thanks to other reviews I picked up a shade 2 lighter than I would have normally. In a box dye I'd typically go for something in the 6R range. I picked up an 8RC. Mixed it with agebeautiful 20 vol developer and got a shade darker than the typical 6R. In fact more red than the 6R (which honestly is a credit, the color is rich. The 8RC on 7R hair (with grey - which it covered very well) came out as a medium auburn and not strawberry blonde). I did add some ph plex, but my hair still felt inordinately dry (as a redhead it runs a bit porous to begin with, hence the Ph plex in the dye and step 2 post color), so I applied my most favorite hair masque to my freshly dyed, damp hair, and rinsed it 30min later to find my now re-nourished hair was soft again. ... show more

I'm glad i found it here only 2 to 3 dollars more but I saved on gas so it's ok. have tied this color and the light brown beautiful colors, and the consistency of the product is good. Oh my! Gray coverage, shine, all that stuff is just as advertised. Consistency was nice and easy to apply without a mess. I had high hopes. I am naturally a dark strawberry blonde/light brown. I color my hair my natural color just to cover gray. I read tons of reviews on this brand and the color 8RC. All sounded great. I was excited to color my hair for my vacation on the beach. But…… I was flabbergasted when I rinsed out this color. 8RC is NOT strawberry blonde and does NOT look natural at all. It is a screaming red/orange! It looks nothing like the chart or the box. I’m going to have to figure out how to fix this. I realize primary hair color is very popular right now but I am 54 years old and am lucky to receive regular compliments on my natural curls and a lovely natural color I am so very disappointed. I am on a road trip with car windows rolled down in the picture. It looks like it is on fire in the Sun. Argh. Hope no one takes pictures of me on the beach. I feel like The Heat Miser. ... show more

I trust this product line. I was a 7RC but as I am getting older I now use the 8RC. I am a natural redhead and women ask me all the time if this is my natural hair color. I use a 10 developer and find it works a bit better for my grays than the 20 developer. My boyfriend paid for me to get a haircut and color for Christmas. He paid way too much! I couldn't tell the difference between using this product and the color line the salon used. I'll stick with $12.99 and just get my hair cut at the salons. ... show more

Whoa! This color turned our MUCH darker than pictured. My hair is naturally a light strawberry blond (9RC), and I often use a level 8 dye to give it a little extra pizzazz. This is my first time trying this brand, and it might be my last because the color I got is around a level 6 auburn. I followed the directions from the package exactly. It doesn't look bad, but it is not at all what I wanted or expected. I would advise maybe trying a shade lighter than you normally would because this stuff is powerful. ... show more
