Great Umbrella, it was dropped off in a sealed box, frame and cloth top were in perfect shape. It is easy to open and close, and easy to pin at different tilt angles for early and late sun exposure and has a very strong vertical oval shaped vertical mounting pipe. It does not pivot on a fixed base, but I needed it to pivot, so I water jetted an 8' length of galvanized 2" rigid electrical pipe (not emt) into the ground and left 36" up out of the ground. I then took a 30" length of 2.5" ID thick wall aluminum pipe and welded a 6" square by 5/16" thick aluminum plate on to one end. I then mounted the umbrella base onto the aluminum plate with 5/16" ss bolts. I drilled a few 1/4" holes through the side of the pipe in order to have locking positions with a 14" bolt slid into the hole. I then slid the umbrella down onto the mounting I-beam stem that comes with the umbrella, but I purposely did not use the base extension shell (you will understand when You get the unit). With this setup the open bottom of the umbrella will be at 7' rather than at 6', and it is easy to pivot, and when the umbrella is closed and has a cover on it , the unit will withstand tropical storm winds. We went through Hurricane Charley and now are very attentive to wind loads. Keeping it covered will keep it from fading which will happen with this type of material if it is constantly exposed to the sun. You can't beat the deal @ $200.

I'm not a frequent reviewer but felt the need to drop a review for this product. I purchased this as a mother's day gift for my wife who has been wanting an umbrella for the backyard. We researched a LOT of difference options, including at Costco. We "settled" for this one because of the value. We made a great decision. First of all, this thing is a MONSTER. It arrives in a long, heavy box, so try to have two people to get it to your assembly point. It's not too heavy for one person necessarily, but it is long. Assembly was the thing that really concerned me most as it is already hot here and I wasn't excited about working outside for 2+ hours putting this thing together. I was worried for nothing. This thing was a breeze to assemble. Took me all of 30 minutes, maybe less. There's 6 bolts total . Very easy. We got the red and it is beautiful. The canopy is LARGE. Easily covers our entire patio furniture ensemble, but we don't have big furniture out there. The ONLY complaint I have, and it wasn't enough for me to go under 5 stars, is that you HAVE to get some sort of weight for the stand. It will not stand up on its own if you put the umbrella out. We went to home depot and got 4 large concrete yard stones and it looks great. All in all this was a great purchase and we have no regrets.

Update 4/07/19 - finally got around to putting together the replacement and all is well. Posted a photo of what you need to be worried about. Check out the cord that holds this thing together. We shall see how long this one lasts. I would suggest not to use this on a windy day. Update 03/13: after some emails back and forth and sending photos of the damage, the vendor sent us a new umbrella. It just arrived. I have to commend the vendor for going the extra mile and doing the right thing. I am adding stars for their effort. Update on my review. The umbrella broke. It snapped and now it's impossible to open it Didnt even last 6 months. Do not buy. Just put it together. Very happy with this umbrella. I am replacing a cheaper umbrella that lasted a couple of months until the first strong wind blew it over and broke it, even with weights. This one is a much sturdier version. The base is made up of thick cross beams. The crank is also pretty easy to use and I like that you can adjust the tilt. Even the box it came in was tough as nails. One thing to be aware of. Get the recommended weights from the same company. You don't want this thing falling over.

Very happy with this purchase. The umbrella was pretty easy to assemble and the quality of it is much more sturdier then the other ones you get for about $100 bucks. I don't think this one is going to break if a gust of wind accidentally comes along (and it has). Some of the cheaper cantilever ones are plastic important parts of the umbrella and can easily break. We've had two of those break. We live in a high wind area and it's random at times. I do have to run out once the wind really picks up but I don't have to worry if I leave it open and miss the first gust because I feel confident enough this one is going to last and stay together. This looks like this will last many years. The only negative I would say is that you have to buy the base units separately. I would not suggest you put this up without them. And a negative just for us... it's bigger then I expected. It barely fit in the space we needed it in. Much bigger then our 9 foot umbrellas were... two feet really seems to make a big difference (more then I thought).

This umbrella was one of the worst purchases we've made through Amazon. It did not stand on it's own (we had to purchase sand bags to hold it steady), it faded within a few months of purchase, and finally the fabric started to tear away from the spine. It was the second one we ordered because the first was missing a part. We are now waiting for a refund on the returned item. And brings me to the second complaint: we packaged up the umbrella in bubble wrap, as instructed by an Amazon Customer Service rep. The post office would not accept it and wanted to charge us $50. for a box. We carried it home and pieced together a cardboard covering over the bubble wrap which the post office accepted. We are very disappointed in Amazon for not sending us a proper box to send the item back. We realize it has been a year but thought you stand behind your products.
