I picked up the 6x8 version of this sun shade cloth to tame the brutal afternoon sun that hits one side of my patio, and it’s made a huge difference. It cuts the glare way down without making the space feel boxed in or dark. I still get a breeze through it, and it’s not stuffy underneath—just shaded and a lot more bearable. Installation was easy enough. The grommets are sturdy and spaced well, so I was able to secure it to the frame of my pergola with zip ties in about ten minutes. It’s held up to a couple of gusty days without flapping like crazy or showing any stress at the seams. I’ve also noticed it’s helped create a little more privacy without looking like I’m trying to wall myself in. It has this subtle screen effect—you can see out, but not so easily in, especially when the light hits it from behind. It feels more relaxed and tucked away out there now, even with neighbors nearby. It’s not a total blackout, and I didn’t want it to be. It filters enough sun to make the space useable again, without losing the open-air vibe. For a lightweight, easy shade solution that doesn’t make your patio look like a DIY tarp fort, this worked out better than expected.
