    • Don't use too many #6 screws. Look at the diagram carefully. Looks good when done.

For the money, this is well worth it. But I gave four stars because we had trouble with the first panel assembly. As it turns out, once installed, it could be seen that the first frame/truss was warped. It had a bulge that, due to the rigidity of the plastic, could not have been caused by us. I mention that in case the manufacturer or another purchaser suggests it was user error. It was not. The ABS plastic frame is tapered whereas more of the polycarbonate panel fits into the groove near the connection end than the outside end. This is not because of the center rib which is of uniform width. Before installation, I went into the attic and added studs to the inside face of the gable siding and secured them to the top and bottom chords of the gable end truss with two diagonal 3.5" screws in double shear as you would with toe-nailing. Plus I added a flat 2x4 strong-back to share the load across many studs. Installation went ok but due to the messed up frame member, the poly pulled out a little. It is fixe$ now but if you are hoisting it with two people, lift from the ends only. Do not lift at frames two and three. I also recommend using high quality silicone to caulk. It should not take more than half a tube assuming you caulk only the top surface joints. ... show more

I purchased this awning for my heat pump not knowing what our winter weather had in store for us. We have been hit with snow - sleet and freezing rain for an 8 inch total - this awning worked great - kept the snow and ice off the heat pump

I decided not to use this for different reasons. I felt it’s not sturdy enough to use and it’s not worth drilling into the front of my house. I'm thinking it will not last very long and the wind could damage it pretty easily. The sides are a hard plastic and the rods in the front and back are aluminum. The cover piece looks nice but could damage pretty easily I think from winds or a heavy snow. I think this is better off used over a shed door possibly or something that’s more temporary. It’s ok I just thought the sides would be metal and that this would be a bit more quality in the materials. The item is as described so the choice not to use this is on me. This may be exactly what another customer is looking for. The top came nicely protected with a film to remove on both sides of it. It's nice and shiny when I removed the film. I think this will look nice wherever this is hung, I just worry about it not lasting very long. ... show more
