i like the vacuum insulation saves money cool to the touch this is my third unit - non of them have failed - had them for years this this unit has improved over previous - red water ball indicator - big improvement to see when to refill - 3D plug - plug is like a computer cord connector, easily replaced, safer and more stable than the only magnetic version - orange backed screen - easier to see the temperature on the screen - interior water markings - easier to see how much water you have - button press sensitivity - these buttons require less force to press and are smooth and easy on the fingers - lower more squat height - more stable with less of a tall height which makes it fit under more counter tops, but still plenty tall to fill tall containers MY SUGGESTED PREMIUM UPGRADES - screen should have a always on backlight feature - with option to disable - dispensing port should have a single LED that illuminates into your cup so you can see while filling - with option to disable - water indicator window should have a illumination LED so you can see how filled it is without shining a light on it - quick heat feature should be able to be set to 208 my explanation in my opinion these are upgrades that would make a huge difference - some times the power goes out or someone presses a button that ends up changing the temperature, but you cant see that on the screen unless you flip on a light in the kitchen, is seems small but when your running to the kitchen to fill up and then run back to your desk to get work done, stopping to turn on lights begins to break my concentration and the mental fatigue comes at a cost that the backlight would graciously fix - every day i go to fill up my cup but i struggle to see how much it is filling, i flip on a light but the effort is far more than if there was a light on the unit - remembering to fill the unit becomes and after thought, usually as i am walking by i mentally attempt to check if it needs to be refilled but i cant do that unless i turn on a light, so it become more tedious to see and remember to fill because i have to set aside time to break focus to remember to check it rather than passively notice as i walk by, a soft light that kept the water fill indicator softly lit would eliminate this issue - finally the quick temp to 208, and this is a big one, because when you loose power, when it come back on if the unit is under a cabinet then it goes back into boil mode and emits steam onto the cabinet and causes damage if the unit could be set to quick temp to 208 by default then it would not reach a boil and emit steam like that, and you could have peace of mind overall i adore this water boiler and i work around the lacking features but i very sorely wish the had them because i use this thing about 15 times a day and it becomes clear where improvements would make a big difference also filter goes on dome up

We've recently upgraded to the Zojirushi CV-JAC50XB from the older CV-DCC50XT model and are thrilled with the improvements. The new C14 power inlet (the standard plug type used for many electronics) is a welcome change from the old magnetic connection, which was easy to lose. This model is slightly shorter, which surprisingly feels like it requires less frequent water refills, and the addition of a red ball in the water gauge is a clever, helpful touch. What impresses me the most is the reduced boiling time; it boils 5 litres of water roughly 10 minutes quicker than the CV-DCC50XT, in just about 30 minutes, which is a significant improvement. The matte finish on the upper lid not only looks sleek but is also more resistant to scratches, adding to the unit's durability. The design tweaks continue with the removal of Japanese characters on the lid lock, simplifying the interface. The LCD display, while not backlit, features an orange background that offers great contrast, making it easier to read without the concern of a backlight wearing out. Another practical feature is the handle that can now be parked at the back of the unit, securing it firmly in place. With a delay timer that can extend up to 16 hours before reboiling, this boiler is also perfect for those who frequently take weekend trips, ensuring you have hot water ready exactly when you need it, while further saving energy. However, I personally keep it set to maintain a constant temperature of 195°F at all times. Although only time will test its longevity, if it performs anything like our old model, which is still going strong after nearly a decade, we're in good hands. Remember, using filtered water is the key to maintaining these machines. We've used this for many months now, and overall it works very well. It's energy efficient, quiet and we always have hot water on demand. There are two nits I have for which I removed a star. First, you can put the unit into "vacuum" mode which disables the temperature maintenance. But even in "vacuum" mode, it will trigger a reboil when you first plug it in, and you can't disable it. This makes it hard to use as a thermos with a small portable power supply, because you need to plug it in to use the pump but this triggers a boil. We encountered this during a recent extended power outage where we wanted to keep hot water around but couldn't afford electric boiling. Second, the unit doesn't warn you if you pump water when the water hasn't boiled yet. It would be nice if it gave a double-beep or something to warn you, since the "reboil" LED is easy to miss if someone else recently added water. Overall, we are very happy with this water boiler despite these minor issues and will keep it for many years.

Zojirushi products tend to be expensive but, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. In this case, you pay a little more for a superlative product. This water boiler is extremely well designed and works superbly, with nice features like a no-drip spout, automatic turn-off when the pot is empty to prevent burning the inside -- or worse, a timer, and a large, easy-to-read water level display -- and a few cute melodies as well (how Asian!). There's a reason that Zojirushi has a reputation for making some of the best kitchen appliances in the world.

bought this for $178 on prime deal day. prices seem to swing like crazy so definitely wait for price to come down a bit if you're looking to buy. don't spend $300 or whatever retail is. as for the machine, this is the nicest one they sell americans. obviously zojirushi makes WAY cooler boilers for the japanese market but we get what we get over here. I wanted that STAN kettle they have at 5 star hotels in tokyo, too bad they said. you get what you get. this does dispense 200 degree water which my knockoff brand I had for 4 years couldn't. my 4 liter version takes 25min to full boil. I can't use this for black tea or rock oolongs cause those need 212 degree straight boiling water poured on the leaves. by the time it hits your cup its like 190. so you're better off with a pot on your stove. if you do more fragile oolongs greens florals etc you're fine with lower settings. also worse fine for oats and soup cleaning is easy, there's citric acid powder in the canning aisle at any grocery store. drop in a spoonful and hit the clean program then dump the water out. don't need any fancy cleaners.

Edit: Now a week later, this boiler work flow is even better than expected... boils first thing in the morning after waking up from the overnight timer and cools to 208F, that temp is perfect for my morning Americano and then an English Breakfast tea. I then click the temp button to 195F, so around lunch I have an Oolong or Darjeeling tea. I then click the temp button again and it cools to 175F, which I use for my afternoon Green Tea. I click the temp button again and it goes to 165F, which I use for my Chamomile tea after dinner. I then reset the temp to 208F and put it to sleep for 10-12 hours and start the process all over again the next day. Original Review: I boil water 4-5 times a day... in the morning topping off my Americanos and afternoon and evening for tea, so got this for cost efficiency and ease of use. Time will tell about the electric costs, but I disable it over night (with timer) so I think it is about the equivalent cost to have a 20W bulb on for 14 hours a day. I drink a variety of teas, so the multiple temp settings are nice, depending on what type of tea I'm drinking... I do notice a difference. The impact on my pallet is noticeable and less apt to scorch my mouth. On one hand it says change the water daily to prevent scaling... and also says to scour with citric acid monthly. My 4 liters lasts me several days and I do not worry about changing the water daily. When it comes out of sleep mode it boils the water so I don't see a health risk. The timer mode shuts it down for 'x' hours (I think up to 14 hours), and easy to actuate when I know I have had my last beverage of the day. The 'vacuum' mode, I believe, disables the heating element until I take it out of vacuum mode (and the unit has to heat up again). Since the unit is vacuum insulated (like a Yeti cup), the water cools very slowly. I'm estimating it costs like 20 cents per day of electricity, so I really don't see a use case for vacuum mode. Using this is a whole lot easier than boiling water multiple times a day and my beverages taste better. I refill the boiler with filtered water from Brita pitcher. This newer model heats more quickly than the older model and has the 3-pronged detachable power cable vs. the magnet connection. Also it has a black control panel vs. silver, and a red ball in the water level sight for easier reading. If it lasts the decade+ many have reported about these machines, I'll be happy. I like that replacement parts can be purchased as wear is experienced (like new lid and seal).
