Umbrella met my initial needs; it fit nicely with my table and did work properly. After about a month, the lights stopped working. Unfortunately, since I am in New England, the one month of use equated to the umbrella being out of the 90 warranty window. Pros: 1) Opening umbrella with crank works smoothly. 2) Easy assembly. 3) In the closed position, it has weathered some severe summer storms. Cons: 1) Lights stopped working after month 2) Umbrella material rather thin, but it does work properly. Applied a spray-on water and sun protectant and there have been no issues, other than the seepage into the ribs. 3) Lights, are not very bright. Update (Sept, 2021): After some troubleshooting, it was determined that the rocker switch that controls the lights, failed. It was probably due to water entering the interior of the ribs (there is rust in the interior of the ribs). The canopy material does cover the top of the ribs, but is not completely waterproof to prevent the seepage. The switch was replaced, and the lights are now working.

Bought this back in November but I wanted to wait until the weather allowed us to use it before I wrote a review. We just put the patio furniture out two weeks ago and added the umbrella last week. Obviously I can't say anything yet about durability - although it looks and feels like quality material - but it has met or exceeded our initial expectations. This is a real eye catcher in the evenings above our patio table. I was expecting the light to be a series of LEDs more or less blended together by a plastic lens covering, but the actual effect is more like a uniform strip of mellow neon down each spoke of the umbrella - really slick! From the other reviews I was expecting that the light provided would mostly be aesthetic as opposed to practical, but we find that the light will be quite sufficient to allow us to dine or play cards in the evening - yet is subtle enough to allow us to see our surroundings or take in the night sky beyond the shelter of the umbrella. In other words, it's just the right balance between too dim to be useful and so bright as to be overpowering. Living on the prairie, wind is always a consideration for something like this. We've had some windy days since installing it and in its fully extended mode the wind has not seemed to bother it at all. At a tilt the wind will cause it to weathervane, but I think I can easily solve that with either a weighted tether at the low end or by shimming it where the pole goes into our umbrella stand. I would include a picture but I don't think it would adequately reflect the thoroughly satisfying experience this umbrella adds to our outdoor patio environment. I am more than pleased with the purchase and offer my highest recommendation.

DO NOT BUY - DO NOT BUY - DO NOT BUY Right out the box the lights never worked, providing but a faint glow for the first few days before not ever working again even with different batteries. I knew this from other reviews too, so wasn't a deal breaker. Cable system failed 3 months in forcing me to restring it (NOT easy). Had to restring it again at about the 6 month mark -- appears the internal guide is not sized right for the string/cable used. At the 8 month mark the cheap-ass joint sheared completely, rendering the umbrella useless. All attempts to remedy with vendor have gone unanswered. If you have shopped for patio umbrellas you know this is not one of the least expensive ones - or maybe it is a least expensive one with a few more features. It seems sturdy enough, goes up and down with reasonable ease and the 10' size does cast a good sized shadow. The bright color we selected looks good with our other patio furnishings, and the fabric appears to be rather heavy. Be Aware that when you first unpack it, you need to remove the solar cell with 1/2 a turn and check to see that the solar cell is plugged in - there is a small 3 pronged jack. I wanted a ventilated umbrella, my thinking being that it would be less likely to get caught by the wind and blown out of the table and it's stand especially since we were getting a somewhat larger umbrella (10'). Thus far that has worked out well, the problem being that the umbrella also leaks in the intersection between the different tiers, (vents) even in a gentle rail - ie no wind. I kind of expected it to leak during wind driven rain, but not just anytime it rained more than a sprinkle. The reason this occurs is that the overlap of the fabric at the tier intersections is only about 1/2" in some areas. Also, the LED lights are a nice idea but as far as I'm concerned, the implementation of these (LEDs) just isn't quite there... All previous solar lights I have seen have some kind of light sensor/photo cell built into the solar array meaning that the lights do not come on until sometime between dusk and dark. It would appear that this LED arrangement is not built like that as the LEDs come on as soon as the solar cell is sufficiently charged - it does not wait until dusk. I expected it to give some ambient lighting to our patio every night when in reality the solar cell is nearly discharged (run down) by the time it gets dark. Mind you, there are 32 LEDs so yes it does discharge relatively quickly - as would be expected. So, what I thought was going to give us some dim patio lighting only works if you switch it off during the day, and on at night. So, all in all, 3 stars - the basic function of the umbrella is good, the extra features - not so much.
