  • Good fat grip
Color: Black
Just what you’d expect a, fat grip. Definitely worth the price and the rubber feels like itll last

  • Decent budget option, but the alternatives are worth the premium
Color: Black
--Preamble-- Like many people, I decided to try out some thick bar grips to optimize my current regimen. I too was attracted by the idea of improving my grip and strengthening the whole complex of muscles/tendons/ligaments in my forearms. So I purchased four kinds of wide bar grips - Fat Gripz One (1.75"), Fat Gripz Pro (2.25"), Iron Bull Strength Alpha Grips (2"), and Yes4All Thick Bar Grips (2.2"). Before the review, some context: First, you should ease into these things, and so if you aren't accustomed to thick bar grips, I would recommend you start with the Fat Gripz One. I did not do this; I tried to integrate all four into my routine, and as a result I gave myself acute tendonitis in both arms, in the form of Golfer's Elbow. Now I need to take at least 4 weeks off while I heal up, and no one likes that. I don't think this would have been a problem if I just started with the narrower grips and moved up from there. Second, if use a ruler, my hand is 6 5/8" (168mm) from the bend of the wrist to the tip of my middle finger. The Fat Grips One is fine, the Iron Bull Strength grips are about the limit of decent grip, and the Fat Grips Pro are too large to get my hand around, limiting me to fairly light dumbbells. For pull-ups, only the Fat Grips one are comfortable, the Iron Bull's are marginal. I have chronic issues with my TFCC (something I was hoping to help alleviate through these grips) and the thicker ones tend to aggravate that complex. Lastly, I am fairly fit. I am about 183lbs (83.2kg) and was doing sets of 23 pull-ups before this. I could maintain those numbers with the narrower wide grips, but with greater effort. I have my pull-up bar (an Iron Gym) wrapped in racket grip tape, so it is about 1.1" in diameter. Most of my dumbbells have bars that are between 1.1 and 1.25" in diameter. --Product Review-- The Yes4All Thick Rubber Grips were probably my least favorite of the four. They are hard, durable, and have a decent profile, but were too wide for my preference and rotated too easily on the bar. Being stiff, install was harder than it needed to be, but not an issue unless you are constantly moving them between dumbbells. ---Comfort The Yess4All grips were not all that uncomfortable, no less so than typical dumbbell grips. They are thick and hard, but that isn't a real issue for me. The seam is larger than I'd like for something like this, but generally speaking when designing the inner diameter of these thick grips you have to err on the narrow side, since too narrow is merely uncomfortable whereas too wide is unusable. They don't fit my IronMaster dumbbells at all, which is expected (the bar on those is 1.25"), but fit my pull-up bar (1.1" diameter) and my CAP dumbbells (~1.1") okay. Maybe a little narrower would be nice. If not that, they could chamfer the seam a bit so it doesn't dig into the hand so much during use. ---Benefit Very respectable benefit to using these, you will definitely feel the difference. I had to drop about 30% of my weight, or about the same reps from my sets, to compensate. A diameter of this kind requires a substantial change in grip which results in you "pinching" the dumbbell between your fingers and thumb, you are actively gripping it during the whole movement. Visually obvious benefit after exercise. These rotated the most on my pull-up bar, mostly due to how hard the rubber is. Not really usable for that purpose, as a result. ---Conclusion If you just want a cheap way to give thick bar grips a try, or you already know that this diameter grip is sufficient for you, then maybe it's a good way to go. However, the Fat Gripz are made from a somewhat softer rubber with better grip and a better fit on my dumbbells, and available in a 1.75" diameter for those starting out. The Iron Bull Alpha Grips fit better as well, though they have a different, more curved profile. They are worth the premium, in my opinion. I would recommend those before these. ... show more

  • Hardcore
Color: Blue
I really enjoyed these fat grips. It makes weight that you can handle just that much more heavier due to the fact of the spacious grip that is needed to grab the dumbbell or barbells. You can feel the effort you have to acquire to adequately hold on to the weight using the fat grips on your forearms especially if you’re doing the farmers walk. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • So far so good
Color: Black
No complaints so far. They are cheaper than other brands and are easy to switch between dumbbells and barbells and seem to be good quality.
