  • Beats my roomba! Updated to explain my reduction of stars & my disappointment with customer service
Color: White
Two updates: 1. For everyone having a problem trying to figure out how to get to the map and other features, don’t scroll down or click settings in the app. Instead, click the actual image of the yeedi. It took me forever to figure out how to get find those screens in the app, so I feel your pain. 2. Why I’ve reduced my rating: The robot still works fine as far as sucking up dirt, but now I have no control over it at all. I started getting a random error message a few nights ago that made me unable to view the logs. After uninstalling and reinstalling the app to try and fix the error, it asked me to log back in with a password, but my password stopped working. I am 99.9% sure my password is correct, but I requested a password reset anyway. A reset code was supposed to be send by email, but it never came.Customer service told me to reset the robot, which obliterates the map it spent a week creating and is frustrating, but I obliged. Now it says I already have an account. Since I can’t delete my old account, unless I register a new email address, which I really don’t want to do, I still can’t sign in. ——- Original review, which I’d stand by if I could get into the app AND if the data acquisition error disappears: I’ve owned many Roomas and a few scoobas. Even with baby proofing the house like I would for an 18 month old child, they all had an uncanny ability to wait until I left the house before burrowing under the entertainment center and getting wrapped around cords, becoming totally paralyzed by the edge of a throw rug, getting stuck under the edge of a chair, or wandering into the bathroom, closing the door, and spending the next 2 hours cleaning the same 50 square feet until the batteries were completely drained. To be fair, they weren’t the latest models, but when you spend hundreds on a vacuum, you don’t really want to upgrade every year. When I was up to 3 roombas and a scooba and none could hold a charge for longer than than 30 minutes, I decided it was time to get another. I was roomba shopping when I found my yeedi. When I saw that she emptied her own dust bin and had an integrated mop, I was sold. For a fraction of the price of my roombas, my yeedi (named Cinderella, but don’t let that fool you. She’s really my favorite child and definitely the most obedient) can do everything my roomba did, only better. Cinderella tackles the area rugs confidently, throwing herself over the edges and onto the rug as though they were…well…area rugs and not chasms of doom. She even increases suction automatically when she detects carpet! She respects my boundaries (set up in the app), and she knows she’s too loud to operate when I’m watching tv, so she obediently waits to run until I’m asleep. Well, she didn’t intuit that, I set up her run time in the app too, so when I have guests who may not be as sound a sleeper as I am, I just have her work the day shift instead. I’m told that when she’s tired mid-run, she goes back to her charging base, juices up, then picks up where she left off. But she’s been able to complete her chores on a single charge, so I haven’t tested that feature. I have only found her stuck on something once, when a kid left sweatpants on the floor in the laundry room and the ties were tangled in her brush. Thankfully, I can tell her to avoid specific rooms or to clean them in a certain order, so if we’re slow about picking things up in the laundry room, I can have her do it last or not at all. Those cords that stymied my roomba don’t seem to be a problem for Cinderella. She’s better at backing out of bad situations—be they cords or the legs of a dining room chair—and getting herself unstuck. She also cleans in very orderly lines, unlike my comparably-priced roombas that just frenetically wandered Willy-nilly hoping dirt was in its path. The pros are many, but there are some downsides: -The main con is the mopping feature. I got rid of the scooba too soon and, in retrospect, I should have at least considered just buying an upgraded model or a new battery. I have only used Cinderella’s mopping feature once in 4 months, because it’s just not very good. It doesn’t scrub or suck up dirty water like the scooba does; yeedi only does the equivalent of spritzing water on the floor and wiping it up with a light swipe of a dish towel. And it can’t multitask. The scooba vacuumed and mopped at the same time. And it did it very well when the battery held up. The yeedi can only do one or the other, and only one of them well. Once you attach the mop pad, it recognizes that it’s supposed to dump water and that’s all it will do. Cinderella shines at vacuuming, but it needs a lesson on how to mop a floor. -As I’ve already mentioned, the yeedi empties its dustbin into a bag attached at the station. That’s a pro, but having to buy proprietary bags will be annoying. I wish it emptied into a larger reusable bin that I just had to dump once a month or so. -With open floor plans like mine, you can’t manually subdivide an area and label it as a room. You can start the yeedi from the app and have it clean a specific room, but for me, it sees my living room, kitchen, dining room and office as one large room. It sees my laundry room, bathroom, and sunroom as different rooms because there are doors, but everything else is lumped together. Look at my photos to see what I mean. -It can only store one map at a time, so if I want the most efficient (mapped) cleaning of my second floor, I’ll need to get another unit. The map images attached show the area cleaning before it was done mapping, the finished map, and the area cleaned once it had mapped the space. I haven’t had it long enough to know if the batteries will refuse to hold a charge in a year (my biggest complaint with the iRobot brands). But at this price, I won’t be as annoyed if I have to replace it or buy a new battery. And finally, I attached really large googly eyes to Cinderella. I definitely recommend it! She has personality now! 😂 ... show more

  • Could not be more excited... what A VALUE!!
Color: White1
The media could not be loaded. Ok so this was delivered today and it was super easy to get up and running. Honestly, getting the app set up would've been at least 3x as fast if I didn't have self-imposed issues with the connection to the wifi (totally my error, not the yeedi's fault). UPDATE - I have now had these for a little over 2 months and I want to expand my review after a bit of experience with them. GENERAL PERFORMANCE For reference, I have two cats. There are often cat-hair tumbleweeds hiding in the corners of my home but for the most part I have always felt that I kept a good handle on sweeping and then vacuuming. That was... before I bought the Yeedi's. The first day we got the Yeedi running it ran for about 45 minutes on almost no charge. I am an impatient rebel and I didn't follow the directions to charge it BEFORE using it the first time, and I was impressed it ran that long straight from the box. I was also impressed (and pretty embarassed) by how much stuff came out of the first run. So much fur and other stuff. Even if I run it every few days, the bin almost always looks the same. Full of hair and dust. It is wild! SPECIFICS ON FUNCTIONALITY/TECHNOLOGY This particular model does not learn your room dimensions. There are drop sensors which allow it to function without falling off the staircase or the ledge in my living room, but it will not remember where those ledges are. The drop sensors work very well and the Yeedi will tell you if you need to clean them off to make sure they continue to function properly. For this price I really can't complain though because in the end, if you set it on random and allow it to run until the battery needs recharging, it truly will get the majority of the area. It doesn't really matter that it doesn't memorize the room dimensions. There are two options for running the Yeedi - you can either press the button on the unit or use the app. The app itself is pretty basic - it allows you to select AUTO (random), Edge, or Spot clean. If you press the button on the Yeedi itself, it just starts a Random clean. Edge clean is good to start with because it tries to stay along the edges of a room. Ideally I like to start with Edge clean and then once it has gone around once or twice I change it to Random mode. Most times I just use Random for the entire clean though. Most of the time I try to run it when I can babysit it... because it can get "caught" on wires or socks or anything you forget you left out. Now, it really doesn't get stuck or tangled but it thinks it is. I have tried to prop up my wires and I am conscious to pick up items from the floor that it can get caught on but it happens. Very easy to fix just lift it up and remove the wires or whatever is "caught" but the good thing is these are so small it is not the same as actually sucking up a sock or a wire getting tangled in a full-size vacuum. THAT is a nightmare, this is easy because nothing actually goes into the unit itself. When the battery is low the Yeedi will try to guide itself back to the charging station. It can only sense the charger from a certain distance, so sometimes it struggles a bit because it is just too far from the charger to know where it is. If you are using it for several rooms like me, sometimes it will wander around for a long time before it ends up close enough to the charging station to actually sense it. If I am home I will help it out and place it back on the charger myself or close to it so it can find its own way. I did run it the other day while I wasn't home though and it did eventually get itself back there on its own. ANY NEGATIVES? These are minor but there are only a few things that I dislike about the Yeedis. Firstly when you grab the basin to empty it I noticed there really isn't a great place to hold it so that you don't pinch your fingers when you close it back up. Weird but now I know to be conscious of where I grip the basin when I close it back up. Second, when you remove the basin to clean, there always ends up being a bit of dirt and dust left underneath the unit. It isn't a big deal because it will get cleaned the next time you run it but it is there. Third it doesn't do the best job at cleaning in corners. Even though it detects them, sometimes it kind of stays too far away to really get into the corner. The brushes would definitely allow it to get right in there but sometimes it just kind of ignores or avoids the corners. ... show more
