This thing is *definitely* worth it. For one thing, it just keeps the box clean, all the time. For another, it's done a phenomenal job of keeping box odor in (for the record, I'm using the plastic litter bin). I have CHONKY chonker and he fits in the box just fine, and my 5 cats took to the Popur immediately. I have 2, and they're great. They are a little bulky for a single box, and they can be a little bit heavy (so if you've got strength or mobility issues, plan on having assistance in set-up), but they're certainly smaller than 3 manual boxes (and for 5 cats, you "should" have 6 ). My cats just will not use a covered box, so that ruled out almost all of the automatic litterboxes. (Also reference earlier CHONKyboi). The only time I've had issues with noise (and really, you have to be in the same room to hear it) is when I haven't emptied the wastebin quickly enough, and then some of the clumping litter gets gorund into the seams. In future models I think they should change the design, but that's really a very minor quibble. I just need to empty the bin more often. Because I have elderly cats on prescription food that makes them drink a LOT of water, the used litter can get very heavy, and the bags in the bin can be a little unhappy about that. I've seen others say that they are using double bags but I have not had to do that.; it's just something to be mindful of. But where this thing really stands out is the ABSOLUTELY STELLAR customer service. 2 years in and out of warranty I had an issue with one of my two boxes, and they were VERY responsive (in a different time zone so don't expect the response in 3 minutes on a weekend, sheesh) and VERY helpful. I heartily recommend this box, and this is at least the third different kind of automatic box I've used. This one is the best.

I thought this product being open air and large would be good for my cat. He adapted fine to it at first and the box worked great at the start. The issues have been many. I’ve owned this for nearly 8 months. Each month the box is worse than the last. The bag replacement procedure often leads to the machine not scooping litter. There seems to be no alignment mechanism but the machine will often not attempt to scoop out litter after a bag replacement. I thought perhaps my alignment was off but I’ve found that only a power cycle works to correct the issue. It’s infuriating to come home from work or to wake up in the morning to find “presents” that shouldn’t have been there. The bags themselves aren’t very strong and rip easily. The smell is bad from this machine compared to others. Definitely keep it in a low traffic area. The unit is easier to clean but it also gets messier than another auto litter box I had prior to this. Now the servo sounds tired. I suspect it’s burning out probably because it’s undersized for rotating a rake and lifting so much litter. Overall, the concept seems great but this is a step in the wrong direction. If I didn’t need an automatic box this large I’d go back to a manual box or another automatic litter box. It’s been manual semi-frequently the past month or so anyway.

I have 4 cats and currently use 3 automatic litter boxes: Litter-Robot 4, Popur Automatic Litter Box, and PetSnowy Self-Cleaning Litter Box—so I feel like I’ve seen it all at this point. I originally bought the Litter-Robot when I was pregnant because my husband couldn’t scoop due to back pain. It works, but honestly, it’s been the most finicky of the three. We still have it, but it requires the most troubleshooting. At the time, we had a large senior cat (Poptart), and he refused to use the Litter-Robot. We had to keep a traditional litter box for him… until I bought the Popur. The Popur has been a game-changer—especially for older, bigger, or more skittish cats. It’s shaped like a regular rectangular litter box and isn’t enclosed, so the transition was super easy. Poptart switched to it right away, and now my more cautious cats still prefer it. After he passed, we adopted two kittens. The kittens (and our smaller cats) will use anything—including the Litter-Robot and PetSnowy—but the Popur is still the favorite for the older and chunkier crew. We also have a PetSnowy downstairs in our living room. All of the cats use it (probably because they don’t want to climb stairs), but it’s not their top choice. That said—it’s incredibly well-built and does an amazing job controlling odor. My mom didn’t even realize we had a litter box in the living room for over a year. A few honest notes across all automatic litter boxes: • They all disconnect from WiFi sometimes • You still have to clean them (just less often) • None of them are truly “set it and forget it” Pros by box: • Popur: Best for older, bigger, or skittish cats. Easiest maintenance. Easiest part replacement. My overall favorite. • Litter-Robot: Works, but the most finicky and high-maintenance. • PetSnowy: Best odor control and aesthetics, but kind of gross to deep clean. I love the engineering on the “poop drawer.” It’s ingenious and makes it so easy to change the bag. Bottom line: Automatic litter boxes aren’t perfect—but not having to scoop every day is life-changing. If I had to buy again? I’d 100% get the Popur again. I can’t say the same about the Litter-Robot.
