  • Solid speed and reliability
Style: 2.5"/7mm SSD Capacity: 2TB
I am using two of these in a Synology hybrid RAID. They are fast and I have had no issues with them thus far. I am getting the rated speeds. Just note some SMB 3 settings you will need to make in Windows to get the max speed benefits. You can find that info on LTT.

  • Early days, but so far, so good.
Style: 2.5"/7mm SSD Capacity: 4TB
I'm using a number of WD Red SA500 4TB NAS drives in a ZFS pool consisting of 6 mirrored vdevs. Overall pool performance is great, though average single disk write speed observed during two resilvering operations is only around 200 MB/s. (I've never seen it go above 380 MB/s.) It's not clear to me whether that's the sustained write speed of this drive or if there's a bottleneck (or deliberate throttling) elsewhere. As mentioned in the headline, it's still early days - the pool has only been in operation for a few months. Within the last few days ZFS started showing checksum errors for one of the Samsung EVO 860s that are also in the pool. I replaced it with an SA500. I'll try to remember to update this review over time to note how the SA500s are faring. Update - 2020-09-17: I now have eight of these SSDs. No problems so far. Update - 2021-12-13: In May, 2021, my ZFS pool with eight of these drives (plus eight Samsung drives) faulted one of the SA500 SSDs due to write errors. I replaced it with another SA500. Earlier, back in July of 2020, one of the Samsung drives failed too; I replaced it with a SA500 (as it was cheaper at the time). So far, in that pool, I've had two drive failures; one 4TB Samsung 860 EVO and one 4TB WD SA500. I'm still running the pool with eight Samsung drives and eight WD drives, with no real preference aside from whichever is least expensive when I need a new one. ... show more

  • SSD drive for NAS
Style: 2.5"/7mm SSD Capacity: 2TB
The WD produce good fair products, what Yoo get and what You pay, in my opinion, their products are overpriced, I was thinking to buy the 4TB but almost 500$ each I then switch to 2TB. In the NAS this two HD will store the most frequent used files. but when You don't want to compromise reliability, especially if You use for a NAS, the price became the last of the priority. It's too short time to comment about durability, they are guarantee 5 years of 24/7 working time. I shall be allowed to comment about it after three years (at list). But in matter of actual performance the two pair SSD are doing their job, not much eat, remain about 35°C in an enviroment of 25°C. eating less than conventional HD. For a laptop or desk top, to replace a traditional mechanical HD, if Your data is important, this is expensive but worth to have. If You are not in hurry, I suggest You to wait to see 4TB price drop significantly when they'll introduce the 8TB SSD type. ... show more

  • Better performance for your NAS
Style: 2.5"/7mm SSD Capacity: 4TB
They were an easy replacement for my 4TB Seagate QNAP NAS drives. I've had 4 of these SSD's running in my TVS-471 for 3 months and they are fast, reliable and silent! I know they are expensive compared with Hard Disks, but the additional speed and silent operation makes them worth it. Using MKV for movie transfers to my NAS are much faster and Plex is less likely to transcode to a lower resolution. 4K movies are delivered cleanly to my various Samsung and LG big screens. I also upgraded my QNAP from an i5 to an i7 and added two M.2 1Tb drives for caching. ... show more
