Consistently good transfer speeds. Wouldn't work initially due to the PWDIS feature which doesn't work with older power supplies. If it won't spin up for you, just do what I did and use a molex to sata adapter. Works like a charm.

I'm writing this because another reviewer has said this drive works perfectly with a "sliver tower" Mac Pro, presumably a model from 2006 through 2012. Your mileage may vary. I'm describing problems with the 8TB version. I'm having two problems with this drive that are probably related to some features that did not exist when these Mac towers were designed. Problem #1: the drive will not mount when you do a "warm reboot," meaning, a manual restart or any automated restart. To boot the drive you have to shut down all the way, and then start ("cold boot"). This is a minor inconvenience compared with what comes next. Problem #2: the drive will sponteously dismount with no warning, and with no predictable pattern. It does this about once a month. If you catch it quickly, you can avoid major problems (besides lost work) by holding down the power button to do a hard shutdown. If you were using it as a boot drive, the machine would probably just spontaneously shut down. I keep my boot drive on an SSD and use this for my user account. It's a lot of fun to see how the OS freaks out when your logged-in user account disappears. If it happens when you're not around, the OS will eventually try to rebuild your user account on the startup volume, and will point everything to this new phantom volume. And you will have quite a few headaches trying to fix all this and make the machine useable again. TL;DR: I don't recommend this drive on an old Mac, which is a shame, because it's a great drive. It SHOULD work fine in an external drive bay, but not in the internal SATA port. Bonus in a Thunderbolt bay: you'd be able to get the full SATA 3 speed from a RAID array of these, if that's what you're up to. I've read of other people having some of these problems. Some people say they have the mounting issue will all very large drives (I believe 6TB or more). Others claim to not have these problems. So who knows. Is there good news? Yes. The drive is fast, and pretty quiet, and has not ever lost any data. Sustained reads and writes are around 200MB/S.

These 14Tb drives are incredible. Super cool and relatively quiet. I had purchased some "amazon renewed" version of these drives and while they all worked great, the warranty was 90 days. These new ones give you a full factory 5 year warranty. While I do not expect any failures, the 5 year warranty is well worth the extra $9 cost. I have a 56 Tb array. It serves as my primary media storage so I need reliability. Initially, I was looking for 18Tb drives, but these drives represent a better value. I have been in the business for over 40 years, and these Hitachi (now labeled Western Digital) drives are the most reliable on the market. I have seen numerous drive failures from other vendors. As a result, I will no longer use large capacity drives from any other company.

Me llevé una agradable sorpresa ya que pude confirmar que el producto es nuevo y en cuanto al ruido, bueno, no es tanto como afirman esos usuarios de oídos sensibles. Ya lleva un par de semanas de prueba y funciona a la perfección. Paid $178.99 each for two of the 14TB WUH721414ALE6L4 drives during Black Friday 2022. Great price for a He drive this big, and Backblaze's quarterly failure reports show a very low failure rate for this specific model as of Q3 2022. I checked the drive SMART data after opening the sealed anti-static bag, and didn't find anything to be alarmed about such as power-on hours or data errors. The only thing buyers might want to be aware of is that the sticker on the drive indicates both of mine were manufactured in Sep 2019. That was over 3 years ago. So while I don't see any indication the drives were used, they also weren't newly manufactured when I bought them. I'm setting this to 4 stars for now only because of how long ago they were made. Otherwise, I find nothing to be concerned about. [Dec 17 2022] These drives use that new SATA power standard. A standard SATA power connector fits, but the drives won't spin up unless you put tape over the 3rd pin from the left. I hear there are adapters you can get to adapt the power, but I did the tape trick. You may need to google this if you're not familiar with it. Otherwise I've got two of these in a ZFS mirror on Proxmox, and they're working great.
