  • No 5yr WD retail warranty
Capacity: 4TB Style: HDD
I contacted WD to register 2 of these drives that I bought. WD confirmed that they are OEM drives. Platinum Micro may warranty these drives themselves but I wouldn't count on it. If you are good with OEM drives, go for it.

  • OEM Non-Warrantied Drive Do Not Buy
Capacity: 14TB Style: HDD
This is an illegal practice. If its OEM it must be advertised as OEM - Non-Warrantied. Its false labeling. Every time I buy a hard drive from Amazon lately. My Seller was server part deals. Buy if you want, but A) doesnt match the picture- it has the plain white no brand label, and B) it has no warranty. ... show more

  • These are NOT retail drives, and many are not warrantied by Western Digital
Capacity: 14TB Style: HDD
Buyer beware, many of these drives are not retail drives, and do not come with Western Digital's warranty. From the batches I've received, the ones that do have warranties are always short by a few months, with the vendor offering to provide their own warranty. I'm sorry, but a warranty from a reseller is nowhere near as strong as a warranty from the manufacturer. I would suggest finding a vendor who is selling retail drives that come with the manufacturer's full 5 year warranty. ... show more

  • Warranty is not honored by HGST as the special notice in the shipping box said !!
Capacity: 14TB Style: HDD
I bought three of these HDDs here on Amazon. They are running in my file server. The notice in the box that came with them said Western Digital acquired HGST, so register them on the HGST web site since HGST still provides the warranty. I entered each of three serial numbers, one at a time, to register for the warranty. EACH AND EVERY TIME the site said "not in our database", i.e. getting the runaround on the warranty. ... show more

  • Works great in a silver tower Mac Pro. 60 second installation time.
Capacity: 8TB Style: HDD
Flawless and quiet performance. It does come formatted for windows, however when I powered up my Mac Pro this was instantly recognized and in about 30 seconds the Mac reformatted the drive for the more efficient HFS+ (macOS). The performance is outstanding. The packaging for these drives is top-notch. The WD units are cushioned with end-brackets and each drive also arrives in it's own box. The drives are hermetically sealed and labelled individually, on the drive and on the Mylar vacuum bag. As for performance, their great! They are similar to WD Black for speed and performance. Actually like these over the black series. Just as fast but much more quiet and built sturdier. Something to consider regarding warranties from ANY hard drive manufacturer. Do you really want to use the warranty? Let's say the drive fails, do you really want to send all of your data off to someone else? In my many years with WD I've never had one fail so this issue is one I've never had to confront. I find this drive to be a good value if you need something reliable. However Bear in mind that I purchased my very first hard drive in about 1984, 5MB (5 megabytes) for $1700, so all drives seem inexpensive compared to the early days. • OEM drives - Not warrantied by Western Digital.
Capacity: 14TB Style: HDD
Bought 4 of these drives and immediately registered then with Western Digital who confirmed they are OEM drives and there is no warranty for them through Western Digital. All my drives will be returned. BUYER BEWARE!

  • Quality RETAIL 8TB drives at a great price
Capacity: 8TB Style: HDD
HGST drives have been 100% rock solid for me and these 8TB drives are no exception. (I realize they are labeled WD but they have an HGST part number beginning "HUS". Be aware that if you want to confirm warranty coverage you cannot do it at the Western Digital site. You have to google "HGST warranty" and look through the menu until you find the link to RMA an HGST drive. When you enter the serial number you'll get a confirmation of the time remaining. One final point: I'm speaking about drives sold by Serverpartdeals, who have always offered flawless customer service. This isn't always the case. (ALLHDD, I'm looking at you.) ... show more

  • Best HDD For Everything
Capacity: 4TB Style: HDD
I know people get that stupid idea in their head that they need a high RPM or even SSD drive for great performance, but that's a stupid idea because there's no such thing as a high quality or long lasting HDD in high-RPM or SSD packages. Motors wear out over time and solid state media just plain loses its ability to retain data every time it's written back to. I've been using Western Digital Enterprise Edition HDDs since that's what they were called. For awhile they were Red for some reason, then Gold (not actually sure which of those product names came and went first). Now they're Ultrastar or Datacenter editions. At any rate, these drives run at 7500 RPMs and if you don't stress them they keep doing that forever. The storage medium keeps holding data accurately. The motor never dies. Occasionally a control board will flop, but those can be easy to repair. About all you can do to actually lose data with a WD Enterprise or Datacenter HDD is drop it hard, hit it with a hammer, or pass a high intensity electromagnet really really close by. I use these drives in any system that's expected to last and keep performing at its original standard until it evaporates in a nuclear blast. Whether it's a multi-thousand-dollar gaming rig, a performance workstation, or a server expecting any amount of data-access-load at all, just get this drive and don't waste time and/or money on anything else. ... show more
