  • Solid, Reliable Upgrade for My Aging NAS Drives
Why did you pick this product vs others?: After years of faithful service, my original NAS drives were starting to get long in the tooth. Between signs of wear and ever-growing storage needs, I knew it was time for an upgrade—and the WD Red Plus 10TB hit the sweet spot. I’ve used WD Reds in my NAS for years and they’ve always been rock solid. This drive is no exception—quiet, fast for a spinning disk, and stays cool even under constant access. I appreciate that it uses CMR (not SMR), which is essential for proper RAID performance and long-term reliability. Installation was plug-and-play in my QNAP, and it was recognized instantly. It’s also noticeably quicker than my older 5400 RPM drives thanks to the 7200 RPM speed and 256MB cache. If your NAS drives are starting to show their age—or you just need more space—this is a great way to breathe new life into your system. WD Red Plus continues to deliver the kind of reliability I trust with all my critical data. ... show more

  • Perfect NAS Replacement - RAID Rebuild Success
I picked up this 10TB WD Red Plus as a replacement for a failing drive in my NAS, and it performed exactly as hoped. The unit successfully rebuilt the RAID array using this drive - yes, it took quite a while since I'm running consumer-grade equipment, but that's expected with a 10TB rebuild. The 7200 RPM speed and CMR technology really shine in NAS applications compared to SMR drives that can struggle during rebuilds. Everything is running smoothly now and my data feels much better protected. The 256MB cache and SATA 6 Gb/s interface keep up well with my network demands. WD Red Plus drives are specifically designed for NAS environments, and it shows - no compatibility issues, proper vibration handling, and built to run 24/7. Worth every penny for the peace of mind, especially when replacing a failing drive. If you're running a home NAS, don't cheap out on drives - this is exactly what you want protecting your data. ... show more

  • Fast and Reliable
I have several of these in a ZFS array. Excellent drives. I had some initial issues, but after testing these turned out to be the enclosure I was using and not the drive itself. If you have intermittent read errors, but no SMART or write errors, remember to check your enclosure.

  • So Far Excellent Working NAS Drives
Bought several of these hard drives to support my UGREEN NAS system - purchased both about 10 months ago. Both HDs and NAS are working great.

  • Died in less than 20 days
I used this drive as part of a TrueNAS 13.0-U6.2 pool in a mirrored configuration (2x10TB). Unfortunately, it died in less than 20 days. I tried connecting it to Windows 10, Linux Ubuntu 24.04, and TrueNAS with no luck. Internal BIOS test on my Dell T7820 server also failed. The second drive in the pair shows less than 500 power-on hours. Both drives were always used together, so faulty one failed in under 20 days of use. I do not recommend WD red plus for backup purposes. Currently, WD customer support's warranty services are temporarily unavailable. I will update this review once I have more information on the warranty replacement process. ~ Update Warranty replacement process took about a month. I am bumping overall rating up to 3 stars for now. Will see how new drive behaves. ... show more

  • MyCloud Upgrade
I have a Western Digital MyCloud 2 Ex Ultra NAS on my home system. I got it with two 4Tb hard drives which were not enough capacity for my growing needs. I needed to upgrade this storage. I ordered these two 10Tb Red NAS drives which were delivered in a couple of weeks. I'd not done a NAS upgrade before so I was a bit nervous. However the process went extremely simply. Following the WD directions downloaded from their website I first opened the dashboard software and advanced to the point where it enabled upgrading the NAS. Then I opened the access door on the MyCloud 2, unscrewed the retaining bracket, and pulled the 4Tb drive #1 out of the NAS. I did NOT power off per the instructions. Dashboard detected this and asked me to wait for a couple of minutes. Soon it was ready for the new drive so I moved two screws and a handle from the 4Tb to the new 10Tb. The new drive dropped into the NAS and the rebuild process started without me doing anything. It took a few minutes for the Dashboard to update the progress indicator. It took about 9 hours to build the first 10Tb drive. When progress got to 50% the dashboard asked for the second 10Tb drive and the drive #2 spot on the NAS glowed red. It was a simple matter to pull the #2 4Tb drive, move the handle to the 10Tb, and insert the 10Tb into the NAS #2 slot. The rebuild started right up. In the morning when I woke up, the process had been completed and all 10Tb were on line. There was nothing else that I needed to do! I was amazed that the process went this simply. Kudos to Western Digital!!! ... show more
