  • DO NOT BUY THE WD 10TB EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FROM ITECH-GEEKS
I bought this Western Digital 10TB drive on Amazon and spent hours moving GBs of files to it. Almost immediately the files weren't showing up in the folders. I safely ejected and reinstalled. All's fine until a few hours later files were gone again. Ejected and reinstalled and the folder were missing. Then the drive froze. Called Amazon who told me contact WD for support. Despite the hard to understand heavily accented techs, they were very helpful. They remotely accessed my computer, reformatting the drive, thus losing the GBs I'd moved to it. Then the drive worked and I moved less GBs this time and it was working fine. So added the rest of the files. Stupid me, the next day all the same no files, then no folders problem. I called WD again and they tried some more remote assistance but nada. WD gave me an RMA # and it cost me $20 to send it back to WD. I paid WD to send me another drive and it had all the same problems! Another RMA. Then I got an email on the initial drive from WD: "Upon inspection of your returned product it was determined that the product may have been altered and is not eligible for replacement under Western Digital’s limited warranty policy. Per our warranty policy: If upon inspection of your returned Product WD suspects fraud or deems such Product to be counterfeit, WD may, in its sole discretion, confiscate such Product or take such other actions as it deems necessary. Due to our warranty policy we cannot return this product to you. There is no warranty associated to this product and service will not be rendered. " I called WD to ask WTF? And they told me the serial number on the outside of the case didn't match the one on the drive inside the case. So obviously, the Amazon seller, ITech-Geeks, were swapping around drives and cases -- which voided my WD warranty. Luckily, Amazon is a great, stand up company -- and they're refunding me after all these many hours of frustration. So I don't blame WD, it was ITech-Geeks. Caveat freakin' Emptor! ... show more

  • Software does not work. Tech Support unintelligble - UNABLE to Backup
Capacity: 3TB Style: Single Drive
Using Win 10 on new SSD, WD My Book Backup SW does not work. WD My Book HW recognized by CPU, could manually copy files, but unable to do full backup. WD Backup SW could "not find device" REPEATEDLY, even w/ tech "support". 2 hours on the phone w/ 3 different WD support techs with such strong Indian accents that they were unintelligible. 2 levels of tech engineers & they could not fix it even with remote access. Multiple WD SW installs, uninstalls, reinstalls = terrible SW & Support ... show more

  • WD 10TB My Book Desktop External Hard Drive, USB 3.0
A file backup hard drive made for desktops. Not made to be highly portable as in the smaller, pocket-sized versions; it's made as a book-sized appliance that sits next to your desktop computer. Under normal use, these "My Books," last about 5 years without experiencing a problem, unless your room's electrical setup keeps experiencing power dropouts and brownouts. I chose the 10TB capacity since I have to back up hundreds of movie videos, thousands of pieces of music, and tens of thousands of digital photography images I've taken and collected over the past 20 years. ... show more

  • Small, pretty quiet, fast enough
I had a Drobo for a few years. I felt safe in the knowledge that if a drive failed that I wouldn't lose any data. I do regular backups but losing your main drive is still a pain. So, did a drive fail? Nope. The whole Drobo did. Drobo's solution? Buy a new one and recover your data. This convinced me that RAID is just an expensive, over-complicated mess. When the Drobo died I didn't lose any data but I decided not to bother with that again. This drive was 1/3rd the price of an EMPTY Drobo. I'm still doing regular backups so my risk is exactly the same as it was before. If it dies, I'll buy another one. I can do it several times before I've spent as much as the Drobo cost. This drive (10TB) is much smaller physically than I expected it to be. It's not much bigger than the Intel NUC that it's connected to. It's pretty quiet except for vibrations that were getting amplified by the desk I have it on. I solved this by putting some felt circles on each of the rubber feet to isolate it from the desk. I occasionally hear chatter when it's working hard but most of the time you can't hear anything. I'm using the drive as my NAS connected to an Intel NUC which serves up network shares. There's very little activity on it except when I'm backing up my other computers to it or when it's doing it's own maintenance tasks (backups, etc). The speed is fine since the limiting factor for transfers is the network it's attached to. I'm only using about 35% of the capacity at the moment so hopefully it lasts a long time. ... show more

  • Trash
I have had this for just over 3 years and it died. It sits quietly on my desk where nothing touches it and it is supposed to do its job. I updated my computer and moved it over ran the first back up and now I received an error the Raid was broke. So I ran the fix and it stopped responding and now it's a paperweight. UGH...I am glad I have my old computer and the new one so thankfully I did not lose anything....well I lost the back up and time/money purchasing it. Not sure I will ever purchase another. May have to succumb to paying for online backups. ... show more

  • Pretty good. Happy with this so far.
Review for WD 6TB My Book Duo Desktop RAID External Hard Drive - USB 3.1 - WDBFBE0060JBK-NESN. This seems pretty good so far. I'm halfway through testing both drives in single mode via HDDScan and so far so good. If it fails you will see updating this review. The WD Utility software for this made setting the RAID mode a breeze and its easy to install and is very user friendly. It wasn't really packed very well in the Amazon package box but the original product box seems have done a good job protecting it. ... show more
