  • Drive failed within 2 weeks and Western Digital technical support kept giving me a runaround
I purchased the My Cloud Home drive on Amazon. After receiving and installing it, I performed multiple backups of my MacBook using Time Machine. This worked fine. However, the drive failed about a week later and would not turn on. I called Western Digital (WD) technical support. After some diagnosis the agent said WD would replace the drive under warranty. The problem was I did not want to return the drive, as it now has confidential personal and business/client information stored on it (I am self-employed). After putting me on hold the agent said I would need to respond to an email he would send and provide an explanation why I could not return the faulty drive. I did not receive the email and called WD back the next day. This agent also said I need to provide an explanation, and did send the email. I replied to the email as requested. After no word from WD for 3 days I called them again. This time I was told I need to provide the explanation on my company letterhead. So, again submitted the response on letterhead. Again, no word from WD after 3 days and called back again. This time I am told I need to also submit a photo of the drive and a proof of purchase. I asked why they did not request this the first time and why WD never emailed or got back to me requesting the information, instead waiting for me to contact them. Agent had no response, only apologized. I contacted Amazon and explained the situation and Amazon agent said I would receive a full refund, without need to return the drive. I also received a follow up email from Amazon confirming this resolution. It is now 15 days since I sent the information to WD that was requested. Still no word from them. The moral of the story is, I will not purchase another Western Digital product. On the other hand, Amazon customer service was great. ... show more

  • Replaced my Apple Airport Time Capsule
When Apple discontinued the Time Capsule, I needed a solution that would allow my wife to use Time Machine to back up her MacBook Pro wireless when connected to my home network. I went with the WD 3TB My Cloud Home Personal Cloud Storage and I am very happy. There are added benefits to running my own cloud server for media, phtos and backup with remote access through the MyCloud App. I would buy this product again. ... show more

  • Waste of money
I bought this to replace an old WD MyBook Live and it looked like it was going to be a good solution, but the "My Cloud" functionality you buy this for is a useless waste of time. The problem with it is it just scans the entire drive to build libraries such as photos. It then consolidates with your iCloud and Facebook libraries and you end up with duplicates in the photo library it builds. Furthermore, I have my music library on the drive, some of the purchased albums contain photos that came with the album. All these photos in the music folder get sucked up into the photo library as well. I'm baffled at how they could release software like this that gives the user no control over what directories get scanned. I would return it if I didn't already have so many files on the drive. Don't make the mistake I did and avoid this product. Get yourself a standard external hard drive instead. ... show more

  • Frustrating At Best!!!!
I have had a WD Cloud which was a great network backup. It has done some things that made me wonder if it was on its way to fail so I decided to buy a WD Cloud Home, not realizing the incredible difference between that and the Cloud. The Cloud Home is the most exasperating piece of computer hardware made. It has a public and a private side I guess that are almost impossible to move between. When you look up how to map a Cloud Home drive, it goes off on incredible tangents about what Windows is doing and has done. But in reality, WD has just, for some reason, made this thing just plain difficult to use. I loaded a bunch of data into what was apparently the private side but now cant find it... tried moving it to the public side, but now it wont let me sign in to that side... when you start looking at the help they give, they go in circles... this is truly a monster which defies description. Do not buy the Cloud Home, you will regret it. Buy the My Cloud instead... ... show more

  • Never Again
This was my third backup drive from Western Digital. The first a mybook was great, lasted years, minimal issues. So when it was time I went back to Western Digital bought a mycloud. This lost its connection, multiple times, but except for the last time it went, I was able to reconnect, even if it meant it had to do a complete backup. While not thrilled I went with mycloud again. It arrived on July 29 and worked fine, until August 10th. Since then no connection can be made. I followed every step, every solution WD posted (don't expect to talk to a real person and when you get a written response, it is obvious American English is not the first language, and probably not the second of the individual responding. I have requested that it be returned; but, my next problem that I anticipate is that the drive I have while inoperative has my life on it. This should be fun. Simple answer--NEVER AGAIN. ... show more

  • Very simple to set up but needs WD software to create a network drive
For the price this is a great product. I have been able to back up files and my wife's craft items with out having to pull a usb hard drive in and out. You also have access to your files outside the home. However, you may need some help if you have no clue how networking works. I had to purchase a switch and extra patch cables to plug it directly to my router which is where it needs to go. Your computer/laptop will not see it directly like an external or internal hard drive. There are two ways to access it; internet or the WD My Discovery application which you download. The My Discovery application will set it to look like a regular drive so that you can create a folder structure or store your files. ... show more
