  • Reset but scanned clean
This drive was obviously reset as new so all the SMART data was gone. But all the sectors scanned as good or excellent and I haven’t had trouble yet.

  • Only 18 Power On Hours
I received the drive 6/17/23. It was packed well in the typical heavy pocket style bubble wrap drives are shipped in. No noticeable wear or dings on the outside of the drive. I received a Seagate EXOS 14tb drive. Ran a couple smart tests with gsmartcontrol on linux. A short test revealing total power on hours was 18 hours. Thought that was awesome. Im a pretty skeptical person so my brain always goes to "Why sell such an expensive drive at such a cost that only has 18 hours on it?". Im a Telemetry Engineer and have involvement throughout our companies Telemetry System "stack", and we leased a physical server early on in our project. Im assuming previously leased machines are where these devices come from, as re-leasing storage is would not be a good business practice. The drives from leased servers get sold to qualified storage cleaners, they thoroughly wipe the drives of all private data, and resell the drives at a discounted rate. A deep scan reveal no errors. No bad sectors to speak of. Max life time temp was 51 C. As of now Im going to give the company the benefit of a doubt and say they arent wiping smart data. Its feasible to do so, but seems like we would be getting ALOT more duds than what is has been shown in the reviews. I will buy more of these drives, as I Ive gotten bit a little by the data hoarder bug. Controversial information and opensource LLMs need to be preserved for the future :) Update 2/2/25 Bought 2 of these total and almost 2 years since my purchase with MANY shut downs these are still running strong in an old Dell R720 server running off solar with a 2000w inverter. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Changing my mind about refurb HDDs
In the past, I've been very reluctant to buy refurb HDDs, since HDDs are the computer component most susceptible to physical damage from mis-handling. A while back, a friend mentioned these "Water Panther" refurbs, and that he'd had very good results with the 12TB model. I was considering a NAS upgrade at the time, so this piqued my interest. By the time I got around to actually setting up the new NAS and ordering the drives, the 12TB were out of stock, so I went with 14TB (for slightly more money) instead. The drives I received (5 of them) were actually Western Digital DC HC530 drives. SMART data was clean; I also tested them extensively (multiple write/read passes), and they were flawless. I put them in service in my new NAS (as a ZFS RaidZ2 array), and migrated all of the data from the old NAS across without incident. They have been working great ever since. I'd say the noise level is about average for an enterprise-class HDD, which is to say, not great. If the NAS was in my office I might find it somewhat objectionable; but it is in another area of the house (the crawlspace, LOL!), so nobody needs to hear the drives seeking. Also note that there is no guarantee you will receive the exact same model of drive I did; these are refurbs, presumably whatever "Water Panther" could get their hands on. But based on my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience, and the experience of my friend, they do seem to be exercising reasonable due diligence to ensure that they only ship product that performs "like new". ... show more

  • Seemingly good quality and relatively new drive
Capacity: 22TB Style: SATA HDD
Received the drive in excellent packaging. This is a refurbished Seagate Exos drive. SMART checks indicated it only had 3 power on hours and 4 power cycles. SMART data was probably wiped though. FARM checks looked good too though. It was manufactured in November 2024 (I purchased in May 2025) so that was a nice surprise knowing that it wasn't that old. I am just a little wary though because the Seagate sticker had a manufacture date of November 2024 but the Water Panther sticker had a certification date of May 2023. I reached out to the seller and they assured me that they accidentally used the wrong date on the sticker and my warranty was still good for the next 2 years. I would have given 5 stars if not for this blunder which is now sowing doubt in the back of my mind. Could it be a fraudulent drive? Who knows. Time will tell how the drive performs and how long it lasts. I will update this review accordingly if I encounter any failures. ... show more

  • These drives will fail. I was foolish to buy multiple.
Avoid at all costs. I bought 8 and they all died. They are just rebranded ewaste. Literally rebranded ewaste. Serial number tie to decommissioned Seagate drives, peal off the label and you will find a seagate logo. Don’t waste your money here. Only good thing is that they honored their warranty, what little good that does. ... show more

  • Great drives for NAS
These drives are great value for a personal NAS. I'm using them in an unRAID server, which has redundancy so I feel comfortable using them. I'm not doing any business-critical things, but for my media server and personal files, they're fine. I have purchased eight of these drives (four 14TB, four 20TB) and I've received recertified Seagate drives with every order. The oldest drives I have, have been running for nearly a year. I should also mention that their packaging is top notch and your drives will get to you safely. They shipped same day with overnight delivery for my Prime shipping orders. This company publishes their customer service phone number and email on their Amazon seller page, their website, and include warranty information with the drives in the box so they make an effort to be reachable for warranty claims. I've not had any failures to need to do a warranty claim, but I feel confident they will promptly respond to any warranty claims just from the way they've quickly fulfilled and shipped orders in the past. I will continue to buy these drives in the future because they are a great deal and have served me well so far. ... show more
