First of all, it was very hard to find a ball joint separator that fits an Audi - particularly my 2010 S5. So, I was excited that with some trial and error in adjusting the center adjuster, this one fit pretty nicely. Upon use, I really had to apply torque and after the first use, I noticed metal shavings on the threads as they were under significant pressure. After the second joint, the beefy looking side opposite the U had begun to bend around the mid point a bit. I expect that within one or two more uses, the metal may facture or become useless by bending to the point where you can't tighten it enough. A ball joint remover shouldn't need heat or hammering to separate joints like some people have suggested, however, had I used heat (and risked damaging the ball joint sleeve I intended to reuse), perhaps it would have come apart before the metal bent and the threads had shavings. Had it not begun to fail, I would have given five stars for sure.

I tried various types and purchased different sets, but the A6 has lower outer joints that face both upward and downward. This is the only tool that can access them properly. Only complaint would be that the point where pressure is applied is very close to end of the pivoting bar. On another separator I tried, this caused the threaded bolt to distort and bend. It did NOT cause a problem with this one, but I was holding my breath. Popped off all 4 joints with no sign of excessive wear on the threads.

This tool worked very well. I saw other's had issues, and so did I, but the issue was not with the tool, it was the configuration of the Ball Joint and Lower Control Arm in relation to the wheel knuckle. the inside gap was too small to get the right tongue of the tool around the joint. Once i got the jack and lifted the wheel knuckle up to change the geometry of the gap, I got the tool correctly on and this tool popped the Ball Joint out in about 2 minutes.

I have an Audi A5. I tried a few other separators that wouldn’t fit without modification.. No thanks! Came across this one, got here the next day, and within minutes this thing popped my lower rearward control arm out. No bending of the fork part, and it worked equally as well for the other side. So happy I found it! If you run an Audi, this is the only one I’ve found to fit PERFECTLY out of the box. It’s very well made, and should last a lifetime if cared for. Would highly recommend!
