  • Great hutch! But may need a few modifications
Style: 2-Story
I bought this hutch for use indoors for our two medium-sized rabbits. It arrived on time, but with two broken pieces. I contacted Trixie through their website, included my Amazon order number and the part numbers for the broken pieces, and they shipped the replacements without question. I found the hutch was pretty easy to assemble (took me about 3 hours), though had to make some modifications: 1) I had to add a couple pieces of wood to create a track for the lower divider. The track in place was upside down and couldn't be moved without fracturing the wood. 2) Occasionally, the pre-drilled holes didn't match up, so I had to pre-drill my own before sinking the screws. 3) The built-in floor trays are nice, but aren't tall/deep enough to catch urine, so I added corner litter trays where I could. Of course, our bunnies chose the one corner I couldn't put a tray to use for their lavatory. I had to make a few more, bigger modifications for this: repositioned the ramp and cut a new opening into the divider. Now, the hutch fits our needs perfectly! It's a lovely little house and would look nice in any room. ... show more

  • Garbage product
Style: 2-Story Rabbit Hutch, Brown/White
I can’t say anything good about this absolute piece of garbage. Every single part is made with the cheapest possible material. The brackets for the roof bent while installing them and the screws cracked the wood. A couple of the corners were cracked when delivered but given the fact that the box was in poor shape there was no sending it back. I wasn’t expecting a 5 star product given the price point but I do expect a 2 star atleast. The directions were just as awful with some steps missing entirely. Save your money or opt to spend a little more to get a better product. I highly doubt this will last through the winter. ... show more

  • Pretty good, with some minor gripes
Well, we bought this for two of our little ones. It was a "gold box" deal that was pretty hard to pass up. Let me start with the good. First, it was packaged OK. I was a bit worried about it as I read some stories on the other hutches arriving damaged. Ours showed up in two big boxes, but both were fine. We took everything out of the boxes and noticed that you could smell the finish on the wood very strongly. We let it air out for 3 days before moving the bunnies into it. It still has a slight smell, but not nearly as bad as it was when we first opened it. The instructions for building this thing are pretty poor, but, overall it's somewhat easy to figure out, so it's fine. Most things have pilot holes drilled (though, some are drilled too large, so the screw isn't doing too much). My biggest gripe with the instructions is the hinges for the roof panels - it doesn't really give any guideline on where to mount them, and there's no pilot holes, so you have to guess. Sadly, missing the guess means the roof doesn't close properly. Ended up figuring it out after a couple of tries. It's big, and it's roomy. We have ours setup such that the closed rooms are essentially 1/3 filled with their hay for munching. So far they seem to like it. Overall, it seems to be pretty solid. We'll see how well it holds up over time and if the buns chew on anything. The other issues I have with this are pretty minor... The doors aren't level from factory, and there's not really much you can do to level them out. The hinges are somewhat cheap, and the locks/latches aren't a whole lot better. The drawers do not slide in and out well at all. The only thing I can relate it to easily is one of the cheap and flimsy oven drawers. If you don't close it exactly straight and level, it just gets stuck. Not a terrible thing, just a slight annoyance. The separate levels is cool - you can close the door to keep the levels closed off from one another. However, if your pet on the lower half is at all smart, they can easily push up on the door as it doesn't latch closed. We used twine to tie it off so it can't be easily opened. The packing material is pretty flimsy. While it did the job for shipping, it was all busted apart when we received ours, leaving little tiny balls of styrofoam stuck all over. We used a vacuum to clean it off, which worked well, but felt a bit unnecessary. Spending a little more on form fitted packing material would easily solve this problem. The smell, as previously mentioned. ... show more

  • Excellent hutch - with adjustments
Style: 2-Story
This is an excellent rabbit hutch. I have one that I use for a bonded pair of rabbits with the ladder installed and the inner door between floors open. They have plenty of room and enjoy the 2 levels. My other hutch is set up without the ladder for 2 separate living spaces. Depending on rabbit size, you might need an exercise area for rabbits using only one floor, particularly if you install the ramp and then decide to confine the rabbit to the lower floor. While they do like to 'hide' behind the ramp they also won't have as much space. The design hides the litter box and is easy to clean. These cages have a clean look and are great inside the house. I ordered the cages separately, from different sellers at different times and had no problems with damage. I suspect the delivery people on those issues as I have noticed an increasing tendency for delivery companies to leave products at the base of stairs rather than carry them up, regardless of whether you've paid for "door-to-door" delivery or not. If damage occurs I would contact the shipping company's local office and complain or leave them other feedback. (Not easy but it can be done.) My other advice relates to protection from the weather and predators if you use this hutch outside. Rabbits would be fine from cats but the latches can be opened by some types of predators and while the cage is strong, a coyote or similar could get through it with enough time to chew it up so I wouldn't assume rabbits could be left outside in the cage without additional predator controls. Wind-driven rain can enter the hutch and will flood the floors leaving the bunnies stranded in their litter boxes unless you drill drain holes for the water. You need a wind and weather cover if you use the cages outside. They should be staked so they don't blow over or placed against a wall (but see comments about windy rain). In a barn or garage they'd be super. Inside, these are way better than cages! UPDATE: Still doing well for me but time has proven that some adjustments need to be made with 2 of my rabbits who are 'chewers'. The un-neutered males tried to eat their way out of the cage by gnawing on the door with the grate in it. Solution was to buy a "transition strip" or similar flooring product from a hardware store and screw it to the back of the door at the base of the 'grate' so it protected the wood in that area. Problem solved for about $7. Also, some rabbits are very clever and can bounce the latch open. (This is most common with males who can see a female.) Simple hook and eye latches will put a stop to that for less than $5. I did air the hutch when I put it together. 36 hours outside was enough to remove the smell. Just take it out of the shipping box and let the pieces air before you put it together. Smell doesn't last. ... show more
