Had one of these before and it rusted out and died a brutal death. New one, however, is BETTER than the old one. Heats up quickly and holds temp with decent amount of smoke. If you want REALLY smoky effects, buy a separate smoke tube. Do have to screw a bunch of sections together, and I seem to recall the old one arrived as a whole. Not too difficult. ... show more

This unit has not met expectations. It was delivered for Father's Day and assembled, but unfortunately, it did not power on. Troubleshooting efforts were unsuccessful in identifying a solution. I contacted Traeger customer support and spent an hour on the phone with a representative from Egypt. They sent me a replacement control board and a new power cord. I dedicated the evening to disassembling and reassembling the grill. While it powered on afterward, I am now encountering an ER1 error, which appears to be related to a temperature sensor issue. This situation is quite frustrating. Given these experiences, I am considering switching to a Masterbuilt grill and will likely avoid Traeger in the future, as their products have not performed as advertised. ... show more

OK, I've used this smoker 5 times and now I have an honest outlook. First, this is a very nice smoker. I've never used pellets before and I've never had an electric smoker. I'm happy with both. The pellet feeder works flawlessly. The smoker allows for any possible temp/time variations. It smokes and cooks the food evenly from leg of lamb to vegetables. The cool down function is excellent. The thermometer is a great addition, although I use my own. This smoker is a breeze to clean. So the except part, I would easily give this guy 5 stars if the timer function worked according to the manual. It's a frustrating issue with every attempt so far. Now, I just keep my own time. Also, be prepared to use about 6 pounds of pellets when you initially prime and season the smoker. No big deal as the higher temp requires that. I just would have liked to know ahead of time. Finally, I'm a major football fan and having done tailgating in the past, I'm not feeling this being called a Tailgater. You can fold the legs up to place on a table top or even the tail of a pickup truck. I would never attempt to use this in the rear of a SUV. That's my take. Would I purchase again? Yes. ... show more

This is my second Traeger. I got really good at charcoal just for fun, or bragging rights.. but this delivers a better quality cook without any of the effort. The first Traeger I had was the Junior Elite which I don’t think is available anymore but that’s ok. Compared to that one, the Tailgater is easy to transport, there’s an optional inverter if you don’t have one, cool down time is actually calculated instead of estimated, the control panel is more robust yet equally simple and easy to use. You will not regret buying this grill, it was good back then and it’s actually a lot better now ... show more
