Actual operating life of the product may be different from the MTTF. (8) Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size. (9) Drive life may vary depending on usage and workload. (10) Standard limited warranty terms apply. The warranty brochure can be viewed at Toshiba's Consumer HDD website.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Extra Cache Not Equal to Higher Performance
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 4 TB
I got this for a new build because the first one I got in 2015 is still a beast as an extra drive attached via USB. this one has 512MB cache vs 256MB cache in my old X300. This one was cheaper than the one with 256MB cache which was still available to purchase new. Thinking this would be even faster (more responsive) I went for cheaper w/more cache. The disk is way less responsive on my brand-new build with top end specs than my rig from 2015. SMH. Anyway, it's a third disk to my two NVMe drives so it will serve my needs as an internal backup disk. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars A great backup drive
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 8 TB
I had to order a new backup HDD drive as my old 4 TB went bad. I use this drive to backup my multiple SSD drives, source code, videos, photos, documents, etc. I read a lot of the reviews, people complaining their drive was very noisy. Well the one I received is quiet as a church mouse. Very fast when I ran my backup program that I wrote. I went ahead and ordered another one to replace my other 4 TB HDD, I am afraid that it may be getting to it's EOL like my other one. I highly recommend these 8 TB drives. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars super easy install
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 14 TB
installing was basically plug and play but be prepared to format the drive first. great company, i even had to refund and re buy the first one because a neighborhood dog got to my package before i could and used it for a chew toy. both came in super fast.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Noisiest HDD I've ever owned.
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 4 TB
Just installed this as a secondary internal drive on my main PC. It's suitably sized for me current needs and it seems to function perfectly well except that it's constantly making noise, even when the system is mostly idle. When something requires a scan of the disk (e.g., MsMpEng, IIRC), it thunks and whirs constantly. It can be distracting, I'll have to see how that plays out over time. FWIW I have other Toshiba HDDs that do not do this. Not sure what the deal is with this one. SMART indicates no issues, again I'll have to see what happens over time. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars fast - reliable but NOISY
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 4 TB
Fast and reports on Internet says reliable. Moderate heat for a 7200 RPM hard drive. The drive is very noisy transferring files. My computer tower is on floor under desk. It also makes a noisy whine when coming out of sleep mode. I paid a small premium for this fast spin Toshiba drive and these are the minor-annoyances ... ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Truly fast for an HDD!
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 8 TB
Though my internal drives in my computer and the portable external drives I use are SSD drives, I still use mechanical hard drives for RAIDs, long-term storage, and backup. I bought this drive for backing up my photo shoots which average about 600-800GB. Many of the other drives I've used top out at about 150MB-175MB/s when writing image files from my portable SSD drives. This drive, however, consistently writes at a bit above 200MB/s. This may not seem like a lot, but it really is because it shortens my backup time. If you don't realize it, SSDs are NOT good for long-term storage. Though they are stable for the relatively short term, any long-term archiving should be written to HDD media. This is an excellent mechanical HDD. I've always had good luck with Toshiba X300 drives, but this is the first time I have purchased the 8TB capacity. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
Style: Performance Desktop Pattern: Hard Drive Capacity: 8 TB
Been using it for a few months now. The only issue I have is that the drive doesn't wake up after my pc goes into standby/sleep and I have to reboot for it to work again. I had to make it "hot-pluggable" so it shows up as an external device to fix that problem. I have 4 other sata drives that don't have this issue at all so I'm pretty sure it's something weird with the drive causing this. Other than that it's a good drive and does the job well. ... show more
