  • LOUD AF
Capacity: 14TB Style: Enterprise SATA
REALLY take time and consider noise levels for use in home NAS, or in any scenario other than either for use in already loud enterprise rooms, or occasional use backups, where loud noise for a few minutes isn't a problem. Can't knock it for being loud, because it was sort of my own fault for ignoring reviews (the word enterprise should have been a giveaway). Bought 5 of the 14TB versions for my synology. Previously was using 10x 3TB WD red plus and I can't hear those run. I can here these operating IN THE NEXT ROOM. I'd give my own intelligence 2 stars. In the future, I will probably not purchase any enterprise drives for my home NAS and I'll probably stick to NAS drives. ... show more

  • It Runs Hot.
Capacity: 6TB Style: Enterprise SATA
Toshiba drives were ranked by online critics as one of two top HD brands for durability and reliability. These accolades were verified by BLAZE lab tests. HGST and Toshiba suffered no errors or breakdowns after running continuously for a year. With a lower price - $80 vs. $110, it is the "best buy" of the two. . From experience, the brand tends to run "hot." The average temperature is 130 F, which is 10 degrees from 140 F - a threshold for hard drive problems. Of 10 purchases in 2018, one has died after reaching 153 F. The other was at 142 F and turned ON/OFF. After switching to another external USB 3.0 deck, it went back to the usual 130 F. ... show more

  • Great but...
Capacity: 6TB Style: Enterprise SATA
I bought these to upgrade my NAS from 2xGB to 2x6GB (mirrored). These were the right price so I thought I'd give them a shot. The are noisy but not terrible. They run at normal HD temp and write and reads are quick. My only concern is that right after I put the disks into the NAS, one of the drives said it had a couple bad blocks. Running a scan never found anything so I don't know if it was a NAS hard drive change over or something else. I would buy these again but I am concerned about the quality and lifespan of the drives. ... show more

  • I *think* these are new drives.
Capacity: 12tb Style: Enterprise SATA
With this type of listing, there's often a question about whether you're buying new or refurbished drives, which matters a lot with respect to the drives' expected service life. These appear new. I bought two of them from SabreTech in late March 2020. They arrived quickly, packaged in plastic clamshells but without anti-static bags. They showed a manufacture date of May 2019. Despite the lack of anti-static bags, I couldn't see any evidence that they had previously been used or mounted in a system (screw holes were clean, SATA and power pins were clean, no scratches, etc.). SMART hours were zero. Toshiba's warranty checker shows the warranty as good until November 2024. The drives themselves are a bit noisy, especially when seeking, but otherwise work as advertised. These have accumulated a very good reliability record in data center service, so I have confidence in using them in my NAS (which is in use 24/7 and shared by six computers in the household). ... show more

  • Great Product, But Nothing's Perfect
Capacity: 14TB Style: Enterprise SATA
I have or had 5 of these + 3 of the 16TB model. Overall, I have to admit I am pleased with them, but I did have one go "bad" on me. I put bad in quotes because the Synology software kicked it out of the volume and said it needed to be replaced, even though in the drive stats, it reported as healthy. When I called their support, I was told that the drive had one of the indicators the drive was about to go bad. I couldn't risk my data. So, I bought a 16TB to replace it in the meantime while I wait for RMA. It had been in use for around a year. All my other drives are going well so far. RMA said about 30 days to replace. Hopefully that goes well.... ... show more

  • Good with an older Mac! No problems in use.
Capacity: 14TB Style: Enterprise SATA
Reorganizing my backup system, and trying to save space in my safe, I'm using this as a backup drive for 4 other drives which reside in a Mac Pro (Early 2009) tower. I popped it into my Startech "toaster"-style SATA hard drive holder. It spun up and then I got a screen dialog saying the disk could not be read and needed to be formatted (this is normal with a new drive on a Mac). I used Disk Utility to first erase the disk and then to create 4 partitions of different sizes for the various drives I wanted backed up: an SSD boot drive plus 3 data drives which vary in size from 2 to 8 terabytes. I had no problems formatting, partitioning, or copying data to this drive in a few hours of use so far. At this writing this was the cheapest 14tb drive I could find at 529 bucks. I can't comment on its speed as this isn't an issue in my use as I will only use it for backups at night, but I will report here again if I have any problems with this drive. When received it was well-packed in a nice thick protective bubble-bag, inside a cardboard box, which inspires confidence that these drives will survive shipment unlike some I have received. I should add however that my drive has a different label than the one shown in the listing. Mine is a generic white label which does say "Toshiba" and "14TB" among other data on it. ... show more

  • Warranty expired
Capacity: 14TB Style: Enterprise SATA
Nice price but when I ran it against Toshiba's warranty checker it said the warranty had expired. Not happy.
