I really love these solar lanterns. My son had a set that he wasn’t using, so he gave them to me. The light that they give off after dark is beautiful and perfectly replicates real flickering candlelight. The ambiance they create is soft and relaxing. The lanterns were on an exposed balcony facing the ocean so between the salt air and the storms, they understandably began to rust after just one season. After a year or so, they needed to be replaced. I enjoyed them so much, I would have been fine buying new ones every year, but then I came up with an idea, and thought I would give it a try. It’s the MacGyver in me. (Only those of a “certain age” will understand). I have used mineral oil as a rust protectant on other items, so I figured it was worth trying it on the lanterns. I ordered a new set, the exact same lanterns that my son gave me, about eighteen months ago. When I received them, I put a thin coat of mineral oil on the metal surfaces of the lanterns. I repeated this process every couple months. After eighteen months of being completely exposed to the salt air and weather, including wind with heavy rain, the lanterns have no signs of rust! They look exactly the same as the day I took them out of the box. I have included a picture of the bottle of mineral oil that I used. It was also purchased on Amazon a few years ago. These lanterns are definitely not for utilitarian use such as camping. They are strictly decorative. The solar mechanism works great. With just a few hours of sunlight, they will flicker until the sun comes up. If it’s overcast during the day, they will still light for a few hours. If you are looking for a beautiful way to add ambiance to your patio or balcony, I would highly recommend these lanterns. ... show more

These are the absolute best solar lights in terms of style and durability. Bought these back in 2020 for my In-laws house in Maine. They’ve really gone through some rough weather and to this day they are still working as if we recently bought them. Incredible!! Totally recommend for outdoors.
