From a distance these don't look bad. They have been staying on all night during the summer. What is this thing? It is a lantern with what looks like a candle in it, looking closer no wick. During the day that is OK. What the cylinder reveals when turned on, it is used as a projection screen, back lighting from the inside. The effect is very good especially since the lantern glass is away from this cylinder. That helps a lot with the illusion and is a big plus. It is probably impossible to get a good video of it, I noticed that the posted ones had the flames seemingly dancing off, coming from the glass of the lantern, the center dulled out, it doesn't do justice to the illusion. I had misgivings about purchasing these, but they are fun to watch, light up the yard. Only 2 options on, off, no timer, but having them still on as the late night wanes into the wee hours of 3 AM, especially if rainy, foggy out, is kind of comforting. Might be cool to take camping, not for any real lighting, it doesn't cast much, but for that ambient against the dark woods. They will get used a Halloween. Even in snowy and overcast winters they continue to work great. These batteries last the longest of any solar lights I've purchased. I tried the bronze color, expecting a dark brown, but their bronze has too much muted gold in them. The bronze looked "washed out", rather than "rich" looking. I bought these solar lanterns for myself and gifts. Never disappointed. I will say I have a sister who is hard to please. She has her flickering solar lights at her front walkway and back porch over 4 years — rain or shine. The flickering light looks realistic. And my original pair is still working thru all seasons in Indiana after almost 5 years going strong. I have these lanterns on my fence, shed, garden, and back patio. They cast enough light for the effect. I will not say they are bright to see your way but enough to cast some light. . My back yard is pitch dark. Through rain and Florida heat these keep lighting up with a realistic flickering so that they look like fire. These were on the expensive side but I also bought a cheaper set from Amazon and they were not nearly as good as these and ended up in the garbage. So these are worth the money.
