Absolutely Worth the Upgrade – Brighter Lights & Unmatched App Customization!

Our first set of outdoor permanent lights was an off-brand version. While those worked decently well enough, upgrading to the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 was a total game-changer. The difference in build quality is noticeable right out of the box—these feel so much sturdier and more durable. Once powered on, the brightness level blows our old setup away, lighting up the roofline cleanly and vividly. Where Govee really steals the show, though, is the app. The off-brand set didn't have anywhere near the control or customization options that Govee packs into their Home App. Being able to set custom scenes, sync to music, or program specific colors per section for different holidays is effortless. If you're debating between cheap knockoffs and these, save yourself the hassle—the quality, brightness, and app control make the Govee 2 well worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Fantastic, but…

[UPDATE 1/20/2026: After writing my initial review, GOVEE reached out and offered a complete and total refund for the product. I’d rank this as outstanding customer service regardless of whether or not I need to get replacement lights. I still very much love the lights, and felt heard by the company. Thank you so much GOVEE, and I look forward to getting more of your products] I’ll start this review by stating how much I absolutely love the way these look on our house. Fantastic. The colors are clear, easily adjustable, and vibrant. Installing was a welcome challenge and we are certainly one of the more eye-catching homes on the block. The app is mostly easy to navigate and our girls have enjoyed themselves immensely while adjusting the settings and moods However, less than two months after I got them hung up; an entire strand is already out. Totally and completely out. I did every troubleshooting measure I knew, checked and triple checked all connections, and made sure there was no physical damage. For as much as I spent on them, (150ft length) it is disappointing that an entire string of 12 lights is already out. If I’d written a review a week after installation, it would’ve been a full 5 stars because we’re obsessed with the product overall. But I can’t in good faith because we don’t even get through the Christmas season before losing an entire section of our lighting. Hoping someone from Govee can help me out. I’ll happily adjust my review if an accommodation can be made. The photo I uploaded is from before the section going out

Finally I can compete with the rest of my neighbors for most beautiful decoratively home competition that exists in my neighborhood subdivision and more so in my head. So first: in case you were wondering: NO they really meant you can’t add additional segments, no matter how creative you try to be. Get it through your head and don’t do it b The light quality is enough to make your equally decoration obsessed ancestors proud and the neighbors envy you. The rgb color and lumen capacity are absolutely incredible. They are simply stunning, have really seamless integration between channels of lights and come with enough lights to make any home bright. They are functional for all holidays, but especially the ones that matter: Christmas and any others for your friendly neighborly outdoor lighting competitions. The length of the connection cables were not my favorite. I would’ve preferred 16ft cables to travel on more awkward places on my roof and provide more slack for my install. But for a 37 year old mom and wife who doesn’t exercise with much regularity—this is as seamless as you can get, and I can’t wait to brag to my doctor that I did this by myself, before she gets a chance to remind me of my bmi. The lights have waterproof caps for ends of connections and at all connection points. Govee is expensive. I know. But it’s the best. Just think of all admiration you’ll get for your beautiful uplift home! Buy them!!

Hardest part of installation was climbing the ladder. Came with everything I needed. Having so much fun making different lighting combinations. I love that each light can be controlled individually. At first I thought the app was going to be complicated, but after playing with it for a while it was simple to make and save the lighting combinations I was after. Just got them up so no info about how long they will stay stuck, or keep working. If they fail soon I will follow up. Note: I did purchase an exterior waterproof box for the adapter and control unit as they are not rated for extreme weather.

Just put these up. The install was easy and difficult at the same time. The adhesive makes the lights stick up easy to stay in place while putting the bracket in place. The screws they give you are tiny and can be a pain to get started. (The screws with the metal bracket are beyond garbage for wood and immediately strip) The lights look great at night and the app has a plethora of options to set. These compliment nicely with my strip LEDs behind the poles to give a whole house illumination. Now we have lights up for all the holidays. Will update on durability when the time comes.

High-Quality, Hassle-Free Holiday and Everyday Lighting – Govee Got It Right

I installed the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights v2 on the front of my home, and I’m seriously impressed with the quality, brightness, and flexibility these lights offer. Setup was straightforward — the mounting brackets and spacing were well thought out, and the included adhesive strips and screws made for a clean install. Once up, they virtually disappear during the day but put on a fantastic show at night. Where this system really shines (literally) is in the customization. Through the Govee app, I can easily switch between hundreds of dynamic presets or create my own color patterns. I’ve set up custom scenes for Christmas (red, green, white), Halloween (orange & purple flicker), the 4th of July (red, white, blue wave), and even St. Patrick’s Day (green rainbow). It’s as simple as opening the app and picking a scene — no ladders, no untangling lights, and no weather concerns. The RGBIC technology allows for multiple colors on one strip, which makes the effects more vibrant and professional-looking than standard RGB systems. The lights are super bright at full strength, but can be dimmed easily if you want something more subtle. They’ve handled heavy rain, snow, and wind here in Western Pennsylvania with zero issues. Another great feature is the scheduling and automation. I have mine set to turn on at dusk and off around midnight. The Govee app also integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant, which is a nice touch if you're running a smart home.

These were great when I first bought them. However, they are very expensive and a lot of work to install. That was not a problem for me since I figured they would last a long time. I was very wrong. These only lasted 1.5 years. I figured maybe it was the control box that went bad... nope. So I ordered a new power supply... nope. What a huge waste of money and time. Now I have lights installed around my house that don't light up. Such a disappointment! Save your money. Update: Reached out to Govee customer service and they're sending a replacement. Only reason I knocked off one star was the fact that I have to reinstall part of the lights since it turns out one led light burnt out causing the whole string not to light up.
