I've never owned a carpet cleaner before, and was inspired to make this purchase by the NYTimes Wirecutter review, which assigned a top rating. I gave it its first try-out on my living room and dining room area rugs, with are very large undyed wool rugs, with medium height and high-density pile. While the rugs are regularly vacuumed, they had not been deep cleaned before. They did not appear to be dingy, but did not look as fresh as when they were new. The carpet cleaner was easy to use. I went over everything with the normal setting, and then went over it again with the dry setting to get up as much of the liquid as I could. I was really surprised at how much dirt this pulled out of rugs that really didn't appear too dirty to begin with. Frankly I wish I could un-see how dirty the water in the return reservoir was. Afterwards, the rugs looked fully refreshed - like new. They were dry to the touch in a couple of hours. While this is a lot more of a procedure than vacuuming (I had to refill the reservoir a couple of times for each rug), I definitely think it is worth doing every 6 months or so. Avoid this one unless you're looking for a disposable appliance

Wirecutter definitely has this one wrong. We purchased this unit in January 2024 following Wirecutter's recommendation and used it three or four times to clean a single room's wall-to-wall carpet. When it worked, it did a decent job extracting dirt, pet hair (not picked up by our vacuum), and pet smells from the carpet. Not as well as a professional cleaner but good enough. If cleaned meticulously after each use, I expected it would last for a while (it’s not a Bissell Big Green Machine but I didn’t expect it to be in that level of greatness). Alas, the unit stopped working and the nightmare began. I followed the same steps as before, but the on/off switch was not working. I contacted customer service - on the phone at first but then via email (we're now well over 20 messages into this experience) - and after they determined that I had a valid warranty claim, I had to disassemble and pack the unit (note to buyers: keep original box and packing materials or you'll end up spending your own money to repack it when the inevitable warranty claim happens) and take it to a UPS location. A few weeks went by and we received the “repaired” unit. (1) the handle was so badly damaged that it needed to be replaced, and (2) even with the new handle the unit still did not work. As an aside, we were told the handle was damaged during shipping but after opening the box I couldn’t see how that was even possible given how the individual components were packed. Contacted customer service again and was asked for a video to show the malfunction (a fair request but an additional investment of time) and now… “Following our assessment of the issue with your machine, we have determined that a repair is necessary…” Please indicate your acceptance of the repair plan and we’ll send the 19 steps you need to follow to return it to us. Also, our repair facility is being upgraded so it’ll take longer. May the odds be ever in your favor. Another aside, I think the customer service function is not manned by real humans but instead is AI. It’s all scripted, AI is incrementally almost free for the company, and one of AI's main goals is to make it really hard for buyers to resolve issues in a favorable way. We’ll continue following the rules – they have our $500, we have no other option, and who knows how this saga will end; I will report back to you, my faithful review readers – but I’m preparing myself for disappointment similar in feeling to the end of my first high school romantic relationship and will no longer use Wirecutter for any recommendations over $25 (pre-tariff prices). Run, do not walk, away from this appliance unless you’re into fiscal masochism or like disposable appliances. ... show more

Can't go wrong with tineco!

A few years ago I got the original tineco vacmop for mother's day after talking non stop about it how much I wanted it for weeks after seeing amy darly raving about hers forever on her yt channel and was going to buy it when I saw that it was only $99 on sale. I have lupus, fibro and RA so cleaning can be a challenge and my budget is non existent so anything that helps me in both those areas is something that I will always recommend! The fact that whether you buy the newest deluxe model or the 1st flagship model, with tineco, im getting better quality than with the best of the best of any other brand out there, is the icing on the cake! I have the lite weight stick vac and now this carpet cleaner too and I am obessed!!! I've gone through some carpet cleaners! I have senior dogs and senior dogs have accidents and there have been times that ive had to pull out the cleaner more than once in a day, several days in a row and its even pulled out stains that my old cleaner left behind!!! And, its beautiful and talks!! It feels so fancy!! It makes me feel less disabled and less financially challenged every time I use it! I really need robot vacuum but Im holding out in the hopes that tineco will come out with one eventually and then I'll wait until their third one is out and buy the 1st bc the quality will be there and the price will be within my credit limits 😂😂😂😂 Seriously, this thing rocks!! ... show more

Lightweight, easy to clean, but frequent refilling

The best features include its lightweight frame, sleek design, ease of maneuverability, and access points to clean out gunk, hair, or debris buildup. The downside is that the size of the tanks may be too small, resulting in numerous, and frequent trips to refill or empty the reservoirs. My first 2 applications were on an 8x10 rug, and sofa upholstery. While cleaning the rug, I had to refill the water/soap reservoir twice, and empty the dirty water canister twice. I discovered that the dirty water canister opening does not shut when disconnected from the main machine. This resulted in the dirty water spilling back onto the floor in my first few attempts. However, I found that if I flipped the canister upside down right away, that limited the spills. While cleaning the sofa, the upholstery mode and attachment seemed to empty the water reservoirs even faster, resulting in 3 trips to refill and empty while cleaning one seat's section of the sofa. Eventually, I opted to use a scrub brush, with a bucket of soapy water, to continue cleaning the rest of the couch, and only used the upholstery attachment to rinse and vacuum the excess water and dirt. The sofa was quite wet afterwards, and the rug was only slightly damp. When I was finished, the machine was very easy to clean (unlike other models of carpet cleaners I've had). Most of the parts have access points are are completely detachable. I was able to clear out all the debris from each part just by rinsing them in the sink, making it ready for the next use. Despite the slight inconveniences I had, (which may have even been due to user error), I was satisfied with how clean my carpet and upholstery were after the first cleaning. After a week, it’s been an upgrade

So far, so good. We’ve had a several cleaners over the last couple years. Common complaints are noise, how wet the floor remains and the difficulty cleaning the unit to get long dog hair trapped in various difficult to clean areas. This cleaner is substantially quieter, like easily have a conversation while it’s running. Next is the drying level, not saying your socks won’t get wet immediately after finishing the job but its not like those other units (proheatx2 pet) that seems to simply saturate the caret and pad and it take 18 hours before the floor is dry. Next, the dirty water tank is easy to clean out, the whole cap comes off to avoid nasty unwanted smells upon start up. Lastly, this thing sucks! The pile looks refreshed after a single use, they’re upright and the heat from the warm air seems to do a way better job and restoring the look of beat down carpet in the highest traffic areas where our two Pyrenees play most frequently. I purchased this pretty excited due to how viral and successful the wood floor cleaning model did. When we received it it did everything that we was told that it would do. And to be honest, it worked amazing. We used it maybe six or seven times when the suction stopped working in the unit. We were excited because the product was still within warranty range. We contacted them, and they did send us a mail-in label to send the product back as it was under warranty. Once they received it, they contacted us and told us that they were not able to fix the cleaner. They then via email stated... "Under normal circumstances, we will help you replace the refurbished machine, but the refurbished machine is out of stock. Therefore, we provide you with a depreciation refund plan. It is recommended that you purchase a new machine. Would that be acceptable to you?" Firstly, they stated they wanted to replace our refurbished machine... We did not purchase a refurbished machine. As you can see in this review, I purchased a brand new unit. Secondly, they said that they would typically replace our unit with a another refurbished unit. Which to be fair, their warranty does state that. In fact let me tell you what their warranty actually states... "Replacement Clause: The warranty states that for quality-related claims, items will be replaced with a factory refurbished model of equal value when available, or a new item will be sent. If neither of these options is available, the offer of a depreciated value might be their standard practice." As you can see, the warranty clearly states that if a refurbished model is not available, they will send a new model. If they do not have either one of those choices, then they will look at a depreciation refund. Here's the thing, you go to their website... They're selling the same exact model that I have. Long and short of it... I purchased a brand new unit, had it for a little over one year. Used a very minimal times. Had a warranty claim with almost 1 year LEFT to go. They don't want to provide a new unit, And now they want to try to give me 54.17% of what I paid vs providing the same model in return. Don't forget consumers... Warranties are binding contracts between you, and the manufacturer that you bought from. Do not accept anything less than what they agreed to. If I was you, I absolutely would not purchase this product, and this is my second product with them. I will never buy from them again. To basically purchase a products for $500, and then have them not want to honor at a minimum replacing the product back when it's part of their warranty agreement... Great and Easy to Clean

This cleaner does a great job on carpets. The soap cleans quickly and the suction is strong. Even after vacuuming thoroughly with a really good vacuum (shark apex), the tineco still pulls pet hair out of the carpet. It pulls a lot of the spray back into the dirty water tank. The heated dry mode really speeds cleaning time. The machine is easy to maneuver and, while a bit awkward to carry, is not heavy. It feels sturdy but not bulky. Cleaning the machine is my biggest complaint, but is still mostly easy with a few extra tools. The dirty water tank has a wide opening which makes rinsing leftover debris easy and helps with drying. The clean water tank has a very small opening, but is thoroughly emptied during cleaning. My recommendation is to keep cleaning until that tank is empty. The suction channel of the brush roll cover is difficult to clean. Tineco provides a brush for cleaning but nothing for this space. A large straw cleaning brush with a long handle and a flexible but sturdy head can get any leftover debris. The suction channel doesn't have any sharp corners which would be inaccessible for a straw brush. ... show more

Cleans Well but Lacks Features that Warrant the Price

Bought this product as a recommendation from a friend who bought before Tineco went viral for their cleaners. Since unpacking the dryness sensor is not functional and remains at 0. Additionally, I cannot connect to wifi or the app as advertised and mentioned in the manual. After using once my carpet is definitely cleaner but it’s irritating to be without a gauge for dryness, which was advertised. I contacted the manufacturer and sent it back after one use. All they did was clean it. My cleaner still lacks any functional sensor for dryness and no wifi function. This is very disappointing considering those exact functions were a main reason for my purchase. For the functionality I have, I might as well have bought a cheaper brand because mine does not do all that it advertised. Really not sure what is going on at the repair facility as my concerns were not really addressed and there are not any notes or comments on my repair. Yet, it came back with the same problems in a cheaper box than I sent it in. ... show more
