View larger.No-sway, No-Hassle Features Trunk mount carriers do not require a roof rack, are easy to install and offer easy access to bikes. This makes them common, especially with new cyclists and families, but they can also be one of the least stable and awkward options on the road, sometimes leading to bike-on-bike and bike-to- vehicle contact and presenting problems with parking. The Thule Passage 2-Bike Trunk Mount Carrier does away with these issues with its no-sway, no hassle usability. It quickly secures to trunk and/or hatchback seams with multiple straps just like other carriers in its class, but also contains unique setup features. The first of these is a wing adjustment knob and FitDial combo with recommended numerical positions for specific vehicles. This limits the trial and error in how the carrier should lay against your vehicle. Once this optimal fit position is confirmed it is locked into place with easy to turn wing adjustment knobs. Then there is the one-button connection feature for carrier arms, allowing for instantaneous installation, removal and maneuvering of the arms to the side then down and out of the way for parking situations with the carrier on, but empty of bikes. It also features narrow cradle arms, capable of holding a wider range of bike frames including smaller child frames. Most impressive though is the no-sway cage feature. Attaching and extending below each of the rubberized cradles that support your bike frame and attach to the carrier arms, no-sway attachments dramatically reduce bike frame movement front-to-back and side-to-side. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car- related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. • Great for the back of my Subaru
Love this bike rack. I am 5'2", so the roof rack is not an option for me. This rack works on our Subaru Outback great, and I have no problem getting the bike on at this height. My husband really wanted the roof rack for some reason, but I am SO glad we got this one so I can use it easily when he's not with me. And it is much more affordable than a roof rack. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Subaru
Works well on my Subaru 2017 Outback. Once you figure out how to install, its a solid carrier.

  • High quality
I was a little leery when I first purchased this rack due to its price. However, once I received and installed it, I was extremely happy. I recently purchased a new bike and had to transport it back home. This rack kept my bike super secure and the anti-sway mechanism worked as advertised. Highly recommend it ... show more

  • Great bike carrier. . . but beware!
This is a sturdy, reliable bike carrier. I used it on three different cars (Hyundai Elantra, Chrysler 200, Toyota Prius) and had no problems with fit. I never had any problems with damage, either, except on my Prius where the top clip rubbed a tiny amount of paint off where the hinge for the hatchback is. And that may have been from driving through high winds through Kansas and Colorado. I did, as a matter of fact, drive with my bike on the back of the car back and forth between CA and KY with no problem at all of the bike coming loose--and that's including going through Utah where the speed limit is 80mph, and actually going that fast. Things I did notice--it really did decrease the fuel efficiency of my Prius. I normally get between 45-50mpg, but with this thing on, it was averaging 23mpg. That was very disappointing trying to drive across country. There is no way to lock the rack to my car, so that meant every night I stopped at a hotel, for security's sake, I had to take the bike off the rack. If you have to get into your trunk (which I did when driving the 200), that also meant taking the rack off every night, and wrangling it back on in the morning. It takes a lot of pulling and tugging to get it on securely to make sure it won't move--I think that's the key in having a secure fit. (And I'm an average sized female with not much upper body strength doing it all on my own, so it is possible.) The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I got pulled over in MO for it obstructing my license plate. The rack itself wasn't actually blocking it, but the post of the bike blocked a couple of numbers. Thule is aware of the problem (they put in the manual that it may block the license plate, but don't state this could be illegal), but have no solutions for it. I even contacted Thule support and their response was that since it may not be illegal everywhere, it's not their responsibility. They told me to go to an auto parts store. Well, I went to an auto parts store, 2 bike stores, and an outdoors store and no one had any real solution. Fail for Thule! They should be able to make some sort of adapter to attach the plate to the outside of the rack/bike. ... show more

  • Installed carefully it works well
I bought this bike rack for a Kia Niro EV. It fits quite neatly to the rear, but you have to be careful to wrap some of the straps around the rack first to get a 90-degree angle on the sides of the hatch that you are attaching the clips to. Also, carefully wrap and tie the loose hanging ends of the straps. If you do this the rack fits quite tightly to the rear of the car. One downside is that you cannot use the rear wiper with this rack installed. Nor did I find the instructions, which have various settings depending on your vehicle, to be accurate enough. However, it is fairly trivial to adjust the rack to give it the angles that do fit well. Another bonus of the rack, as the Kia is a short car, is that it provides a decent tie down point when you want to carry long kayaks, rowing shells, or other long items on your roof. Given the short distance between roof rack bars, having an additional tie down point well to the rear of the car provides good additional stability. I have safely carried a 24 foot racing kayak on the top of my Kia, using this system. ... show more

  • We will see how it works
Some of the screws don't go in almost the way and the straps look cheap. But the metal looks well manufactured.

  • If you are looking for a terrible, awful, no good bike rack…
You have come to the right place! I have a 2013 Honda accord four-door… Non-hatchback. I bought this bike rack for a 1000 mile drive to Zion national park. To be completely honest, I was a bit worried from the point that I opened the box, to the point where I installed it onto the back of my car, throughout the drive, and ended up removing it and returning it before I even began my trip home. A $200 bike rack should not feel this cheap a company like THULE should inspire more confidence than this pile of garbage. It is essentially a collection of poorly formed aluminum tubing, poorly made ratchet straps, with very very little in the area of support, structure or quality. I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone, even if it were half the price, I would not feel comfortable recommending this to anyone with anything larger than a child’s bicycle, going anywhere further than 10 miles, not on the highway or freeway. You can tell by the photographs it did a number on my brand new specialized bicycle frame and paint work, as well as create some deep gashes in the paint job of my Honda accord… It’s a 10 year old car that I have really thoroughly used- and never until now- has anything I’ve done to this car ended up in deep gashes in the paint job… I’m talking down to the metal. Buyers beware!! ... show more

  • Did not fit my Lexus car
This bike rack did not fit my make and model car even though the description specifically said it would. My trunk lid is very thick so the clip is way too narrow. Had to wrap it back all the way back around inside the trunk & hook from underneath on the back window side where the top hooks clip on. It took 2 of us about 1 1/2 hrs to adapt and try to make it work. It is on now. I don't even want to attempt to remove it and try to refit ever again, which I know will happen at some point. I have used it twice and it is very sturdy and a nice rack. If it had fit my trunk lid, I would give it a 5 rating. Disappointed but did not want to have to send it back. ... show more
