Description

The NV 2.0 Base is loaded with features that make it one of the most equipped platform racks on the planet. This Hitch rack uses an adjustable font tire cradle system and a re-designed pivot with an optional foot system for easy loading and unloading. It also includes fully integrated cable locks, a hitch lock, a front tire ratchet with intuitive release, and a co-molded rear tire to insure that up to 2 bikes are held in place firmly and securely during your travels. To install, just use the hand-tight hitch cam system -- no tools required. This bike rack is truly impressive. Although the installation process can be a bit cumbersome due to the large and heavy pieces, I managed to assemble it myself after taking some time to align and tighten everything. Once assembled, the rack feels solid and durable, weighing around 50lbs. Mounting it on the hitch receiver, you'll notice its weight, but the bikes are easy to load and unload. The rack conveniently folds and lowers, allowing access to the trunk or hatch of an SUV even with the bikes on. The only drawback I encountered was that the pin and lock didn't fit in the limited space of the Tesla Model Y's hitch receiver. I had to find another lock that fits. Easy instillation and simple directions. Pretty good quality. The rack doesn’t move at all even at Highway speeds. The black looks great. The tailgate of my 2022 Ram does slightly touch the rack if I put it all the way down.

Very nice bike rack with great features, internal cables to lock bikes, comes with locking pin for the receiver. Male end of receiver can be adjusted to not rattle in the receiver hitch. Very strong, will hold heavy bikes. It was easy to assemble but would be easier with two people. Pricey, but worth the money to me. It even comes with a bottle opener to open a cold bottle of your favorite beverage when the ride is over! ... show more

    • Disintegrates Rapidly in Car Wash

I love the whole Kuat image of free-spiritedness. (Throwing the shocka hand gesture as I trype with one hand). I even think the umlaut over the "u" is catchy, it worked for Motley Crue. Knowing that if my product has any issues that customer support is likely manned by a hipster with a man bun or possibly a robot makes purchasing this contraption that much more special. The cons would be the fact that when you go through a regular car wash that it not only destroys the rack, but the car wash itself. As soon as the spinning cloth hits the rack it disintegrated like pouring water over sugar or, more appropriately - salt. One minute I'm enjoying my car wash experience tapping my fingers on the steering wheel of my vehicle in time to some Nickelback and the next - BANG - only the dead silence of the water dripping from the nozzles and the whole circus stops, leaving me to explain to the owners of Emma's Car wash how my Kuat rack destroyed their property. I'm being charged for damaging their car wash as a result. Not to mention the brute in the line behind me pushed me down onto my butt in the pooling water because I ruined the car wash. As an added bonus, I got pulled over on the way back to my home and cited by the local police department for driving with an unsafe attachment hanging from my trailer hitch. Awesome. Really awesome! I think the literature of the Kuat NV Base 2.0 Hitch Bike Rack should emphasize a little more forcefully that their rack will not hold up under the mighty power of water and cloth at Emma's car wash. I'm thinking less hipster shocka image and more emphasis on safety. Maybe put that critical piece of information in BOLD letters somewhere. That's what I'm thinking 'brah'. So all told, the price of the rack was a bit high at $749. The price of buying a brand NEW rack from another, less cool company is $840. If you add on the cost of my auto insurance deductable for wrecking Emma's Car wash stall #1 at $1000 and add the cost of $1,000 for a traffic safety citation, you're looking at around roughly $3,600 hard earned US dollars. If you can afford that amount, then it's definatley worth the dough. As a disabled Schreiner (I wrecked my car when it hit a curb and flipped over on parade watchers and caught fire), I can't afford the cost. Anyway, I hope my review wasn't too critical. Had a Yakima OnRamp and could not get my eBike to ride up the ramp safely and it wobbled a bit while driving. I found it easier to move bike alongside rack, hold back brake and pull up front wheel. Put that wheel into rack holder then lift the back wheel onto rack. Cuts the eBikes weight in half thus no need for ramp. Also, with a ramp, you need 12ft or so on EITHER side of vehicle to load bike. The ramp is not practical for me. The cable lock on this rack is kinda funky and getting it locked and opening up the weatherproof cap on the lock is not easy. I will likely use my own cable/lock. Also, this rack does NOT have a welded ring or something to attach a lock cable to. The only way to lock a bike to the rack is to lock the racks cable into a loop and pass your own cable thru that loop. Going down road, this rack does not bounce, the bolts/fittings etc. are very close tolerance. I also found you do not use/need a threaded rod that goes thru hitch. All you need is a 5/8" pin with a lock on the end. The rack has a knob that takes out any slop in the hitch. I have checked the tightness a few times after driving a bit and sometimes I can put back another 1/8 turn but no more. It stays quick snug. Assembly was very quick and simple but the instructions could be improved. Why not give install details about end caps ? I had to take the rack all apart just to get the end-cap inserted properly. Then the wrench/tool. I don't recall any guidance on how to store that tool on the rack. Overall very strongly recommended. ... show more

The rack itself is very well designed and can easily handle our two heavy e-bikes. We bought the ramp option and it works great. We also purchased the Kuat Pivot V2 which gives us the full latitude to swing the rack over 90 degrees away from the back of our Jeep Wrangler for full access to the rear of the jeep and easy loading and unloading of bikes.
