This was an upgrade from the trunk mount bike mount. The trunk mount was not proper for a mountain bike. This will work well for my road and mountain bikes. I did not get instructions in the box but I was able to figure out how to assemble. There is also a video on YouTube to assist with assembly. Very good quality bike rack and I doubt I will have to replace this. The locking pin for the hitch is small. I will find something stronger. ... show more

I purchased this based on a Wirecutter recommendation. It is well made with thoughtful features, I did have a tiny struggle getting the bolts to thread but got through it. This is the 1.25 inch model on a draw tie hitch.

I really the design, quality, and looking of Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack-1.25” hitch size. Having had the rack for about one month, I suddenly find that the two tray assemblies are bowed: the ends deviate from the mid about 0.5” (without bikes loaded), as shown in the picture. I am not sure whether this curving was from permanent deformation due to bike weights, or it was made in this way. Hope someone here can help me out. Thanks. ... show more

I spent quite a while researching racks and the Kuat was my choice because of easy initial assembly and simple on/off my Toyota Avalon sedan. And I am quite pleased on both counts. Also I feel that my road bike is safely secured without any wobbling. More than I ever expected to pay and well worth it. Oh...and I misplaced all my keys a few wks after I installed the rack and Kuat had new keys to me within a few days - and a really cool free t-shirt so service was exemplary. ... show more

Box arrived a little chewed up, but the rack was ok. Was pretty easy to put together. Practiced putting it on both cars, loading a bike, easy to store. Not crazy about the pin that goes into the hole in the hitch with the lock on it - doesn't need to be so long, but it works so I'll get over it. Cable that locks into the hitch might be a little finicky to unwind and use but I'll figure that out too. Will try to update after I use it a bit. But as far as opening the box and putting it together and getting it on the car, and loading bikes, much better than any other bike rack I've had. ... show more

The rack was reasonably easy to assemble, and very easy to attach to the vehicle. The functionality is great (tipping the rack and also bicycles) for access to the rear hatch. Bicycles are held snug to the rack. The only two comments (opportunities for improvement) are that 1) the additional straps for the front wheels are loose nylon straps, not an integrated strap system like the rear, and 2) the pin system to secure the rack to the receiver hitch is rather loose, and rattles around a bit if not otherwise secured. ... show more
