Kayak felt secure, got to the river and back safely. I did drive slow just because I'm paranoid (no more than 60mph on the freeway) but the kayak didn't shift. This works great for our canoe. We cut the pieces apart so that they were wide, so one went on either side of the roof of our vehicle. We drove 1,200 miles with it up there, it speeds in excess of 70 mph. The canoe was more secure than on a traditional roof rack, because these are made of hard foam versus if you're trying to strap them down on hard metal. So worth the price! I drive a 2008 Honda Accord and the roof is curved enough that once I loaded my kayak on these pads, I had less than 1 inch of clearance and that's before anything was cinched down. Product works far better than the other padded solution we had before. Only thing we had to watch out for was that our kayak needed front tie downs to keep it from swinging side to side. These kayak straps are of excellent quality. I particularly appreciate the neoprene sleeves covering the steel to avoid scratching whatever it rubs against. While the quality is there I found it difficult to get the straps tight enough for my liking. I will still use them but it makes me a little nervous. That could be attributed to my being a novice kayaker and still learning tie down methods. Despite that caveat I do like them and will still use them. I have gotten the kayak tied down tightly sometimes but other times I feel like I just cant with these. I should also mention that I do not have any J racks or a saddle as of yet which could be contributing to the difficulties I am having. Loved the quality and it shipped immediately! But before you buy, realize this soft roof rack should be removed after every use because your car will get socked if it rains. I purchased thinking I could leave it on car as I use it daily for my surfboard. I live on Kauai and it rains almost every day so it just doesn’t work for me. But if your a weekend warrior, or one who will use maybe once or twice a week, and you have no problem removing it after every use then it’s a great product. ... show more
