I bought one of these to power a sponge filter on my temporary 2.5 gallon betta tank and another to power a DIY brine shrimp hatchery setup. The betta is being upgraded to a 6 gallon tank in a few weeks, which will definitely test the power of this pump more than it currently is, but I don't think it will be a problem. It's plenty powerful for the sponge filter in my 2.5 gallon tank currently and I have to use a control valve to slow down the air coming through so the water doesn't end up too choppy for my betta and his snail tankmates. The noise level could be better (it seems to be more noisy than the up to 20 gallon tank rated air pump by the same brand), but overall it's very quiet and gets drowned out in the sound of the fan I have going in my room. The air pump itself is small enough it can be placed directly behind my tank on the same stand, which is convenient for access to it in case I need to do maintenance, as well. It comes with a control valve as well which is awesome! I didn't have to go spend $2 on one separately after all. Overall, can't beat the value of the item for the price. Local stores like walmart have air pumps starting at something like $10 and are twice as noisy as this one and pet stores charge even more. Awesome pump and even more amazing price ... show more

I bought three of these when they were at an incredibly low price. They have been running non-stop for the last 5 months now. I couldn't be more pleased with them. They truly are whisper quiet! I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with a valve, which I had not expected. One less item to purchase. I can't hear the pump itself, only the bubbles coming up. Now, having said that, you need to pay a little bit of attention to where you place it. Sometimes, if the pump or the airline touches something, such as a wall or the stand, then you may here the vibration of it. However, I have found that if I play around with the placement a little bit, that "issues" is easily fixed! As soon as they go on sale again, I am going to buy more. For more tanks AND for an older AeroGarden that I have, in which the water pump died. An airstone inside the AeroGarden will suffice for my purposes. So I am very happy with these can honestly highly recommend them. ... show more

I love it! I have guppies and thanks to this a baby fish survived! I used to have a Tetra hang-on-back filter, but I didn't like having to purchase the cartridges. I decided I'd get a sponge filter and bought this Air Pump to go with it. I bought this one because it was mostly bought with the sponge filter I had purchased. I only wish that it had two air outlets for if I decide to purchase a second sponge filter.
