  • WOW SUPER PRODUCT-QUALITY AND VALUE-EASY TO USE
Size: 2-Bike
AMAZON ROCKS! THIS IS A GREAT VALUE! HARDWARE IS OK, AND THE LOCKS WORK WELL TO SECURE IT. YOU NEED A BIKE/MOTORCYCLE CABLE WITH HEAVY DUTY LOCK TO SECURE ACTUAL BIKES TO YOUR FRAME. IF THEY REALLY WANT IT THEY WILL UNBOLT THE BIG CENTER PIN. BUT THAT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN IN PUBLIC PLACES. AT A NATIONAL PARK--MAYBE IN SECLUDED LOTS. SOLID AND STURDY, SUPER EASY TO USE, AND VERY STEADY ON THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD MANY BIKE RACKS--AND THIS ONE IS THE BEST EVER! THE METAL TRAYS FOR THE WHEELS ARE VERY SOLID AND IT FOLDS UP WELL. IT ALMOST DISAPPEARS, AND IN PLACE ---IT IS ROCK SOLID! THE TWO LOCKING TOP RAIL BARS WORK VERY WELL (VERY SECURE). BE SURE TO USE THE LOCK WASHERS OR SOME BLUE LOC TITE ON THE LOCKING HITCH PIN THROUGH THE RECIEVER TUBE. THE LOCK ON THE END SHOULD PREVENT THE LOSS OF THE PIN IF IT UNSCREWS AND BACKS OUT--THUS USE LOC TITE BLUE! USE IT ON EVERYTHING, YOU NEVER WANT TO LOOSE ANY BIKE RACK. IT WORKS FINE JUST THE WAY IT COMES--BUT LOCK ASHERS GET-- LOST. OHHH--YOU CAN DROP A TAILGATE OF A PICKUP, IN THE SWING OUT MODE, TAILGATE CLEARS ABOUT 4 INCHES OR MORE FROM THE BIKES ON THE MOUNTED BIKE SWING OUT, WITH AN EASY FLIP OF A STURDY LEVER. THAT IS AWSUMMMM TO GET TO YOUR ICE CHEST IN THE SUV OR TRUCK BED. THIS ONE REALLY IS A WINNER !!! ! SUPERB QUALITY AND VALUE. AMAZON ROCKS!!! WE LOVE AMAZON! WEAR A HELMET--WE HAVE BROKEN HELMETS OFF OUR HEADS ON TREES ON THE MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS. BE SAFE! YOU CAN'T GET REPLACEMENT BRAINS! CHECK OUT THE AMAZON COOGEO 2 BIKE RACK COVER TO PROTECT THE RACK/BIKES IN STORMS ON WAY HOME. GREAT PRODUCT! ... show more

  • Good rack and great customer service. Good rack and great customer service.
Size: 2-Bike
I love this bike rack. I first bought one in 2020 for $161. It was easily the nicest rack available for the money and I assume was priced so low to get initial interest and reviews. Sadly someone wrecked it while I was shopping once (I keep it installed pretty much 24/7) but I liked it enough to immediately purchase a second one for $208 in 2022. I see the price has jumped quite a bit since either of those purchases, so keep in mind I'm reviewing it at those prices. I don't know how it compares to the competition at the current price. What I will say is that it has endured nicely on my car pretty much 24/7. My current hitch has been used for nearly 4 years and only recently had an issue, although it was a big one. While unmounting mine and my buddies bike from the rack I found it was quite loose. After some inspection I realized the axel bolt that holds on the upper assembly was completely missing. Thankfully it was secure enough still that nothing came out, but when I removed the rack so it wouldn't be a danger, it did separate. The customer support was fantastic! I messaged swagman asking about a replacement bolt, and half expected them to just tell me a size and to buy one separately, but within a day I got a response back that plainly said they don't sell the bolt and so they were shipping me the entire assembly. They didn't hassle me, or push for tons of photos, or push back at all. So I will say that the warranty experience alone is worth a bit if you do ever need it. As far as the rack itself goes, I love it. I do a lot of solo trips and car camp with my Toyota matrix. That means that I use the rear hatch door a lot to get in out and get access to gear. This hatch folds back so that I have clearance to open that door, even with a bike mounted. The pieces that the tires rest on feel sturdy, and have strong and easy to use straps that click down, but can easily be released one handed. The top hook that secures it down is also easy to operate, and locks. This was a requirement for me. I know its still not the most secure thing in the world (and I think it only has a couple key types, both of my racks can use the keys interchangeably) but its enough to keep people honest while I run into the store. The key also works for the locking hitch pin, which was another nice touch for security. I did have the the top hook wear off the paint where it touches my bike, but I've driven thousands of miles with it, so I'm not really surprised and it doesn't bother me. If anything I'll cut a vinyl sticker to absorb future wear. When I'm not actively carrying a bike it folds compactly and stays pretty much out of the way. It seems strong enough. I normally only use 1 bike, but its a chunky mountainbike and the rack has no issues holding it, even of pretty gnarly roads. I have noticed that that there is some slight rust on the mounting points for the tires, but thats what I get for keeping it installed all the time, but structurally they seem fine. I can order replacements of the site if it ever starts to worry me. All in all, I think its a solid product, and solid customer service. So nice, I bought it twice. ... show more

  • After a 7,000 mile road trip, I still highly recommend it. After a 7,000 mile road trip, I still highly recommend it.
Size: 2-Bike
This was bought 1 month before a 7,000 mile road trip with it on the back of my 2016 Subaru Forester. I waited to review until after the trip to give it a little more merit. Pros: -Half the cost of a Thule -After assembly, it can be removed or installed in one minute -Holds bikes securely with locks (included) on the hitch and on each bike -Tilts out of the way to access the rear hatch of the car. -Folds up close to the car when no bikes are mounted. It is so compact, that I don't remove the carrier when the bikes are not mounted. -When folded it does not block my back-up camera. (I found that the red markers in the camera aligned perfectly with the back of the folded rack.) -With one bike in place, the back-up camera is still usable. (The yellow markers in the camera aligned perfectly with the back of the bikes when in use) -Carrier fits very securely in the car hitch. Cons: -With the vertical bar raised, it is a little awkward to mound a bike between the bar and the car. -Release pins for folding the carrier do not have self lubricating bushings. After a few days in wind, rain, and sun, I had to lubricate the pins because they did not snap back in place.. (Fortunately 3-in-1 oil was available at one stop on the route.) -Pads on the tire straps are a little fiddly if you change bikes with different tire sizes. -The carrier tilt mechanism is not as tight as I would like and there is some minor rocking of the bikes on bumpy roads. Tips: -Keep a wrench in the car to remove the hitch (1 minute) so you can take the car through a car wash. -Mount the smallest bike nearest the car. -Tilt the bike rack out when installing the inner bike. It is easier to lift the bike into place without the locking hook in your way -Pay attention to which way your bikes face. For my bikes, if the inner bike faced left and the outer right, I could not easily access the inner bike lock. Facing the other way, both locks were easily accessible. -When ratcheting the hooks, roll the bikes forward and back while pressing down on the hook. This will ensure that the bikes are mounted tightly. -Put a little oil on the tilt lock pins before using the first time. -Insert the wheel straps into the strap latches 1" when no bikes are mounted. I shopped hard and compared several carriers prior to buying this one. My requirements were: -It carries the bikes supported under the wheels. -It could be tilted for trunk access, with the bikes in place. -It was lockable (both at the bike and the hitch) -It was sturdy -It was reasonably priced The Swagman carrier accomplished all of my goals. ... show more

  • Heavy, but a great overall product
Size: 2-Bike
I debated whether to use a platform-style or hanging bike rack. I've had hanging ones in the past and have run into problems with children's and women's bikes that don't have cross bars that fit well. I've also had problems with the bikes banging around. After much debate, I'm very happy with my choice. The quality is very good, and works exactly as advertised. The initial installation is a bit time-consuming, but once completed it's easy to use. It's a cinch to load and unload the bikes. And best of all they feel very snug when they're strapped in. Zero doubts about their safety, and zero banging around after they're loaded. There's some wobble in the hitch but I didn't hear it while driving (2015 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited w/ factory hitch). The hitch folds down to allow access to the rear hatch, and folds up reasonably well to get out of the way when not being used. The one drawback is that it's strikingly heavy, but I feel I've made the right choice for the price point and I would definitely buy it again. ... show more

  • Great bike rack! Great bike rack!
Size: 2-Bike
We purchased this bike rack for use with our Curt 1.25 inch trailer hitch I had installed on our 2017 Forester. The main male portion of the rack is 1.25 inches so it fit perfectly into our hitch however the rack does come with a 2 inch adapter installed that is a piece of cake to remove (just unscrew the screw which holds it in place). I would highly recommend to assemble the rack when in is threaded into the trailer hitch, it really makes things much easier to assemble and adjust items. I ride a 60cm bike and my wife rides a 52cm and I ended up having to swap the arms which hold down the bike frame since the longer arm was originally in the back and the shorter arm in the front of the rack. I wanted to have the largest bike closest to the car with my wife's smaller frame in the outer position. Reading the instructions, it states one wants to have the arms rest on the top tube closest to the seat frame so after some back and forth positioning/readjusting the wheel holders, I finally got it positioned where it needed to be. I would say with the included locking hitch pin and locking arms, this really is a high value bike rack. We took both our bikes on a 500+ mile roundtrip to the beach and back and while there was minimal sway watching the rack in the rearview mirror, overall there were no issues and no scratches on the frames of the bike. I was originally concerned about the arms resting on the top tubes (especially since I have a carbon frame bike) but found no issue after our recent trip. I did also purchase the Kuat Transfer 2 hitch mount rack also (which is a touch more expensive), but ended up returning it since there was much more plastic involved and while the arm was fairly sturdy when clamped down on the front wheel, there was no formal locking mechanism (like this Chinook where you can use the keys to lock the arm down for added security and peace of mind). Overall, while the Swagman Chinook may not win any awards in the looks category (fairly bare bones), for functionality and value its an ideal bike rack to get your bike from point A to point B without issue. ... show more

  • Compact and well designed!
Size: 2-Bike
I’m using it on my Toyota Corolla with 1.25” receiver. It fits perfect! This is a well designed bike rack that is simple and elegant in design! Only a fraction of the cost compared to bigger name brands and a fraction of the size to! Even though it’s not bulky it feels ridged and sturdy and stores away easily! Bike was stable during the drive and the clamp hooks are sleeved with hard rubber. Great Product! ... show more

  • Highly versatile, feature packed bike rack
Size: 2-Bike
I spent a lot of time researching a hitch mounted bike rack and in the end decided to go with this one. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to securely carry 2 bikes. The large wheel trays fit the mountain bike tires really well and they are almost a perfect fit for the plus tires (3 in wide). If you have the full fattie tires, you'll need to purchase different trays to accommodate those tires. This rack is highly versatile, feature packed rack can be adjusted really quickly to fit different bikes. Your bikes are held into rack very securely and every detail is taken thought of such as no metal on metal contact, tire straps, and easily adjustable trays for a custom fit. The straps and the frame locks feature ratcheting design with quick release. One of the coolest features allows you to pivot the rack away from your vehicle so you can access your tailgate or hatchback even with the bikes still attached. This version comes with the locking hitch pin which is a $30 value so it is worth the upgrade. Since this rack can be used in both sizes of receivers, it uses a threaded hitch pin to tighten it down and keep it from swaying. This prevents you from using your own hitch pin lock and forces you to use a threaded version. When you aren't using the rack, the main post folds flat and the whole rack folds up tight against the vehicle which makes it more convenient to leave on the vehicle since it doesn't stick to far out. The integrated locks on the frame hooks adds a nice piece of mind for general use, but don't trust them completely. It's fine for the coffee shop or while running into the gas station, but anything longer than that I would recommend throwing a nice heavy duty cable lock onto the bikes. My only complain about this rack is that it doesn't come with reflector tape. When you fold the rack up flat against the truck it could be hard to see by people behind you. I added some reflector tape to the bottom of the rack which makes it highly visible and less likely that I'll get bumped. This isn't an issue when the rack is loaded as the bikes are obvious, but when it is folded up it is very inconspicuous and might not be seen. All in all, this is a great rack, it is adjustable, holds the bikes securely, is well thought out, and very worth the price. ... show more

  • I highly recommend this rack I highly recommend this rack
Size: 2-Bike
First of all, I would like to put what I'm sure everyone's big concern is to rest! It's secure! Bikes don't bounce around at all! If you are looking into this rack because you are concerned that the hanging style racks would allow the bikes to get banged up, then you are not alone! THIS RACK IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Once you have the wheels secured in the trays and have the frame support locked in, the bikes WILL NOT so much as wiggle.. I cannot stress the security and dependability of this rack enough! I'm a bit of an OCD man and I'm not particularly fond of my things getting banged up and scratched, and this rack just puts my mind at ease! 584 mile round trip, from Alleghany county Virginia to Lancaster SC and back, and our Motobecáne Cross Uno Pros didn't so much as wiggle! The rack is easy to assemble even though the directions are minimal, and once you have the bikes off the rack or you aren't hauling them, the rack folds up really neatly! Let's talk quality of the rack itself. The rack feels solid, and has a nice thick painted coating! The wheel trays, and frame locking hooks aren't cheap either. The racks been on the truck for several weeks now enduring rain, 5.7 hemi exhaust fumes, and my girfriends driving ;P and it still has no rust, no sign of wear, and all hardware is still tight! All in all, I'd give this rack a solid 11/10 score! It's a tad pricey, but it's worth every penny! Side note- you should always use the supplied keys to lock the bikes in place if you live in or around shady people or in a sketchy area. I'm not saying a thief COULDN'T break the locks and steal the bikes, but it's always a good idea to add extra security. I also suggest using a security chain or cable with a good lock and run it through the frame & loop it around your trailer hit frame if you are leaving the truck/suv for a longer time. ... show more
